| American
Airlines has implemented a "relaxed" cell phone policy
that allows passengers to use their cell phones while the plane
is on the ground. They are the first airline to offer such a
policy.
Most airlines don’t allow cell phone use on the plane
at all due to concerns that they could interfere with cockpit
instruments. American Airlines reportedly conducted vigorous
tests on cell-phone use on planes and has received approval
from the Federal Aviation Adminiastration (FAA) for their
new policy.
American Airlines passengers will now be allowed to use cell
phones and two-way pagers on the plane before the door is
shut for departure, and after landing while taxiing to the
gate.
