A high-protein diet appears to lower blood glucose and improve overall glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Researchers observed the results after participants with type 2 diabetes followed a high-protein diet (30 percent of the diet came from protein) for five weeks. Blood sugar levels were lowered by 40 percent among the high-protein group.
Researchers say further studies are needed to determine whether the results would hold up for longer time periods and to explore possible side effects of the high-protein diet.
