Children in Mexico may soon be implanted with microchips
to help deter kidnappers. Solusat, a Mexican company, is launching
the product as a type of emergency ID for children.
The microchip, which has been named the VeriChip, is the
size of a grain of rice and is injected under the child’s
skin during an outpatient procedure.
Distributors hope the device would help to locate missing
children, but critics say the device could easily be removed
by kidnappers, and tracking a child with this type of device
could violate their civil liberties.
