The Federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has voted unanimously to recommend that all children between 6 months and 5 years old receive flu shots each year.
Flu Shots for All?
Some members of the panel believe this did not go far enough, and urged advising vaccination for all U.S. citizens.
Other committee members disagreed, noting that if demand for flu shots outpaced the supply, it could cause problems.
More Than Ever Before
The CDC expects over 100 million doses of flu vaccine to be produced for the coming flu season, more than ever before. However, more than half of those for whom flu vaccine is recommended are actually immunized, even though manufacturers must destroy large amounts of unused vaccine every year.
