Sometimes, bacterial vaginosis may go away on its own, but it’s better to use home remedies to hasten the recovery before things get worse. If you’re wondering how to get rid of bacterial vaginosis, here are some home remedies you can try:2
• Apple Cider Vinegar
Long known for its antibacterial properties, apple cider vinegar can help treat your bacterial vaginosis by raising the acidity level of your vagina, causing pathogenic bacteria to die out and restoring a balanced pH level.
To use this home remedy, simply add 2 cups of the vinegar into your bathwater and soak in it for 20 minutes. Gently dry your vaginal area using light pats with a clean cloth. Repeat this procedure once a day until you see improvements.

• Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has long been used against various bacterial infections, and may help with bacterial vaginosis as well. The aromatic scent will also help counteract the bad smell produced by the discharge. To create a tea tree oil solution, mix a few drops of it in a small bowl filled with warm water and use the mixture to rinse your vagina. Repeat this process daily for three to four weeks.
This superfood contains strong antibacterial properties thanks to its unique enzyme called allicin. But to produce allicin, you must first crush raw garlic, as it stimulates the release of alliinase, a compound that produces the aforementioned enzyme. To use garlic, simply crush several cloves and apply to the infected area. Rinse with lukewarm water afterwards. It’s also recommended to eat raw garlic to add allicin into your immune system as well.
• Coconut Oil
Like the other remedies mentioned in this list, coconut oil has potent antibacterial properties. Its strength comes from medium-chain fatty acids. To use this remedy, you can soak a tampon in coconut oil then insert it into your vagina for two hours. Rinse the area when you’re done, repeating the procedure once a day only. You can also add coconut oil into your daily diet to give your immune system an antibacterial boost throughout your body.
A Note Before Using These Home Remedies
Before using any of the home treatments listed above, note that there is no single bacterial vaginosis cure. You may have to try a combination of them, so it’s important you consult with your doctor first because you may do more harm than good. Your doctor will be able to check for any possible side effects and allergic reactions.
