About Me

My name is Annie. I'm a U.S. Army retiree who served on active duty from May 3, 1976 to Dec 31, 1998. Prior to entering military service, I completed three years of college in the late 1960s, but changed my life in a positive way by entering military service. Immediately after retiring in Dec. 1998, I returned to school and completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science; also received an Associate in Science degree in General Studies from recapitulated courses taken earlier in pursuit of a degree (Dec. 2000). Immediately after that, I entered graduate school at the same school (Columbus State University, Columbus, GA), near the military installation, Fort Benning, GA, where I'd retired, and completed those requirements in Dec. 2003 at age 54. Having entered military service at age 27, I knew that a 20-year hitch meant that I would be 47 yrs of age when I'd retire; unfortunately, my health began to break down enough that I was not allowed to retire until a determination was made regarding the cause of my illness. Otherwise, I would not have been able to pursue benefits for disability later on: This was to my advantage. With those things are behind me, I have been on a "quest" to get and to keep my health in better shape, regardless of any physical limitations. I developed Type 2 Diabetes, which had started prior to retiring from service, which is awful to think just how "unconcerned" military doctors were, regarding my health, when test results plainly showed identifiable indicators of Pre-Diabetes: I had no clue that such a disease existed! Approximately 2 yrs went by (1999-2001), before I would know about this "disease" that's totally preventable! I have, and continue to fight, to keep my health in tact, but had to stop exercising (a 1-mile walk, 1 x wkly; structured exercise classes- 4 times wkly); however, because of spine problems (lumbar and cervical), I had to discontinue all exercise classes because of pain. The development of Osteopenia surfaced (Aug 2010), making matters worse. Since then, have been on a regimin of Calcium Citrate (500-600 mg, 2 x day), Magnesium Oxide - 420 mg daily, Boron 3 mg daily, 500 mg Vitamin C- Time-Released, 2 X daily, Vit D3, and recently added Vitamin K2 (Dec 2010), when I found out what happens to the body when taking Vitamin D3. There are other supplments that I take daily, one being Astaxanthin - 5 mg (don't know if that's enough). Other supplements are taken after meals, which include Niacin - 500 mg, to help with controlling plaque in my arteries. I do take prescribed medication to control hypertension and cholesterol; after a 20-lb weight loss in Dec 2010 (from Apr 2010), one med. was eliminated (only on small doses of 2 meds for hypertension: Norvasc -5 mg, 2 x daily, and Coreg-25 mg, 2 x daily. My biggest concern is that I begin to "look" my age: That would be a real "let down". :o) The "gray" hair may be a detractor, but, I'm not putting dye in my hair -- that's too much to ask, especially with the chemicals that are involved.

Hopefully, I have not said too much.
