I developed Multiple Chemical Sensitivities after constant exposure to photocopier fumes at my work place 6 years ago. After diagnosis the Allergy Specialist told me there was nothing that could be done about it. If I had believed him I would now be socially isolated. I found doctors who understood more than he did and use natural therapies. Following their advice enabled me to continue to work and be able to manage this condition.
I react to many petroleum based substances that other people don't even smell which at times has resulted in them thinking that I am 'putting it on'. Thank God that the work doctor was supportive and gave me letters to tell them that if I needed to leave a meeting than I NEEDED to leave. I no longer work there because we moved to the country and found it very difficult to find work in many places because of exposure to reactants. I build relationships with staff at shops etc by going to the same shops so that they are aware of my needs and don't panic if I have a bad reaction - it sounds like an asthma attack.
I firmly believe the saying "Knowledge is power" - especially when it comes to looking after my own health. I am the only one who can really make a difference. I saw my mother make the mistake of trusting completely in medical doctors and specialists. She died at the rather young age of 68 after fighting cancer for twenty years. She didn't change her lifestyle but just trusted the doctors to make her well.
Dr Mercola's website has been incredibly helpful to me and I really enjoy receiving the newsletters as I and my husband have learned so much. He being a scientist always looks for evidence to support health claims so Dr Mercola's practical and scientic approach is great.
