Make Your Own Dog Food
(and avoid the chemicals, grains and fillers of the commercial stuff)
I have had a ton of questions on making your own dog food, and while I know that Dr. Becker has a great book on it, the book is not on Kindle and my husband has forbidden me from cluttering up the house with a thousand more books. My dogs are perfectly healthy, have been so for years and years, ever since I started this with the dead cat and melamine pet food scare, and I have been very, very happy with it. Hair, skin and eyes–perfect. My dogs are now 9, 7 and 7 so it works. Warning: with all the protein of real meat, hair growth will be optimized. Be prepared for more grooming, shampoo and hair cuts.

Shop Wisely ***************
Every week I shop the ads and look for reasonably priced meats and bones (preferably organic) at about 69 cents to 99 cents per lb. Whole chickens or whole meats, including the entrails are best. Add in some entrails (heart, liver, kidneys, brains, gizzards–whatever parts your dog would normally eat from a fresh kill from the back yard). Use about 10 to 25% entrails. Put in a stock pot and cover with water. Put in the oven at 375 deg F with a drip pan underneath. Add some spices that seem to do well with your dog–rosemary, basil, Italian spices, whatever your dog seems to tolerate. Spices are the way to kill worms and parasites, not harsh chemical drugs. Your dog will probably be most happy with whatever you eat. Ground or whole pumpkin seeds are good for worms.

If your dog is getting tumors from chemicals in the environment, you might want to try some (less than 10%, please), celery, cilantro, tumeric AND cayenne–all of which are very chelating and kill cancer. I have not tried D3 on my one dog’s under the skin tumor, but probably will. About 30 percent of tumors shrink and dissipate without any intervention, regardless. The tumor is the size of an eyeball, and has not grown in about a year, so I am not worried.
Several on the list know all about what spices kill which parasites, so if there appears to be an overgrowth of something in your dog’s gut, do a bit more research. Schwnn seems to know a lot, you can friend and send a message to her.

Cook for 3 to 4 hours. Remove, cool and pick out bones. Bones can be given for a treat later to clean teeth. None of my dogs have problems with eating bones, cooked or raw.
I personally believe that some raw and some cooked foods are good for both people and dogs. The nutrients in well cooked stock made from bones are supposed to be very nutritious.

You can put up your doggie meals in appropriate size jars by boiling the jars, contents and dip the lids in boiling water. Keep cool, pref. In a fridge. Remember that cooked meats and gravies really do spoil in about 3 to 4 hours when not at 34 deg, so you will have to be diligent and cook, cool and store promptly. However, dogs do perfectly fine on many, many meats we consider spoiled because they have about 5 times the digestive system we do. So that chicken, hamburger, pork that’s kind of smelly at the end of the week is perfectly fine for a dog. Freezer burned meats are good for a dog. If you don’t like the smell, spice it up. My dogs eat and bring in perfectly rotten dead animals from my yard on a not infrequent basis. They seem to prefer fresh kills and will drag in a rabbit or squirrel with a belly eaten out, a leg gnawed on, and the head split open and contents eaten.

If I don’t have time, I store the hot food with bones in it in quart sized Rubber maid containers (4 for $3) in the refrig. You can easily dump these in a pot and reheat for 2 min or put in the microwave for 2 min. I know some of you don’t like the microwave because it puts out emf’s and it might damage water molecules because of Prof. Emoto’s research, but I have not been able to confirm his stuff either way AND Wikipedia has an article on how those trying to repeat his experiments have failed on a consistent basis. I think pets are very spiritual and in tune with blessings, etc. I tried two bowls of water–one blessed and one not, both tap water and my pets drink the same from either one at the same rate, no noticeable difference. I tried growing plants–One in a cup labeled “hate” and one in a cup labeled “love” and there was no statistical diff in the growth rate of 20 plants! I tried growing another 20 plants in microwaved (and cooled) and non microwaved water, and same result, no difference in plant growth. I also tried sprouting plants in cooled microwaved water vs. tap water. No difference. So until I find an experiment I can reproduce at home, he is clearly in the debunked category.

More additions: Some dogs do well on cheese, cottage cheese, organic left over lunch meats, etc. I use these for treats. Raw milk cheeses have good probiotics in them for doggie. There are also probiotics out there (Dr. Becker sells some good ones) that aide in digestion and clean the teeth. Your dog's teeth should look clean and healthy with a good diet and good tooth probiotics. It take about a week or two to clean them up.

A. Stop Eating Carbs and Sugars.**********
1) The very first step is to eliminate all sugar and carbs from your diet. Buy organic and whole foods whenever you can. I generally eat an Amish egg or two for breakfast, Kolona Supernatural (organic, minimally processed) cottage cheese and baby greens for breakfast. For lunch and dinner ground organic beef, lamb, turkey or chicken with vegetables and I always include a cup of cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli or cauliflower and onions. I add tumeric and ginger and basil to all my cooked foods. I eat some of the veggies raw as I am cooking. I buy organic whenever I can. You don't have to give up ice cream. Get a home made ice cream maker and use organic half and half, vanilla, Amish eggs and make your own low carb ice cream. Use unsweetened chocolate and cocoa to make chocolate ice cream. Make cookies out of almond flour, coconut flour and Amish eggs. Use stevia for sweetener and a bit of Splenda. Eat sparingly. 100 years ago, people ate ½ lb of sugar per year, we now eat that per day! Poor pancreas and liver. ***********
2) lower your blood sugar by eliminating all nutrasweet or aspartame diet pops. Crystal Lite Pure actually lowers your fasting blood sugar by 20 or more points. Try it yourself at home with a blood glucose meter. Drink at least 2 large cups of green tea per day. Green tea is very nourishing for the heart. If you drink diet pop, get some stevia type pops from Whole Foods that are all organic.

3) Avocados are good for your gall bladder because they have a lot of natural veggie oil. Look for organic avocados.

4) Avoid fruits or count the carbs. Turns out fruit sugar or fructose is only processed by the liver. This means if you eat a lot of fruit, you’re likely to end up with jaundice or worse yet, cirrhosis (chronic degeneration of the liver). Get a fructose counter on this website and use it if you eat fruits. Cancer patients should never eat more than 10 gr of fructose per day because cancer feeds on sugar.

B) Recommended supplements for everyone, every day: This is what I take.

1) Vitamin B. Fish or Salmon Oil: 4 to 6 tabs (gr) per day–or more. Carlsons. is pharmacologically pure. This is highly nutritious and reduces inflammation. Take until your blood pressure is in normal range. My MD told me that.

2) Vitamin C--LypoSpheric or Liposomal (coated with lecithin--ordinary vitamin C has a half life of 2 hrs and is 90% destroyed by the gut.) 1 to 3 gr or more per day. More if sick, up to 50 to 100 gr per day. Read about amazing stories on internet of experienced vitamin C users. get via Amazon or ebay or www.healthyitems.com. In a study of 500 adults aged 50 to 70, 98 % were free from cancer, heart disease or dementia! From the book “Vitamin C the real story” by Hickey. Get it on Amazon, download to your PC or phone in minutes. Kindle apps for phones are free. Kindle for PC is also free. Mercola should sell LypoSpheric Vitamin C and push people to take 1 to 3 gr per day and more if you have heart disease or cancer.

3) Vitamin D3 -- 20,000 IU's per day if low. GET TESTED. My entire family only had 10 ngr/mL! Minimum is not what Lab Corp says (30). To prevent cancer and heart attacks the studies said 50 ngr/mL min. For optimal health or cancer patients you want to get this up as high as possible–80 to 100 ngr/mL. Work at it. Whole Foods has some great mini dissolving tabs now at 10,000 IU’s each. Take 2.

4) Probiotics: 1 66 billion tab from Mercola or 1 Florajen tab of 30 billion for maintenance. If you have diarrhea, arthritis, dementia, you may need to take 100 billion units or more per day until you feel better. When you have bad bacteria in your gut, these produce toxins and result in heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, arthritis, etc.

Those are the basics. Just think B, C and D3 and probiotic every day.

C. But other additional goodies I take:

1. MSM sulfur-- 1 or 2 scoops once or twice per day. Two scoops twice per day to remove skin conditions such as warts, bumps, cure HIV or cancer, etc. Also gives you a lot of energy. Sulfur is an essential nutrient not present in modern farming methods. The human body needs 98 nutrients per day! We are like a Ferrari and not like a Dodge Dart that runs on anything. Modern Agra only sprays 8 to 10 nutrients on crops so they “look” good and “grow fast.” Organic farming uses composted vegetation and manure filled with many types of nutrients. Eat organic. Mercola should sell this stuff and push it–2 small (1/4 tsp) scoops per day. Patrick McGeen pushes it on the website but they always neg him. He is not wrong about this.

2. CO Q 10 or ubiquinol. see what works best for you. This is good for your heart and brain. Ubiquinol is a more easily absorbed form of CO Q 10 and is advised for people over about 40. You can get this at www.mercola.com or www.healthyitems.com (This site has the lyposomal type or more readily absorbed version).

3. GTF Chromium. Good for your heart and kidneys. Many people suffer from high blood pressure because their diets are deficient in magnesium and chromium. Try this is you are having problems.

4. 2 cups of green tea--organic is important here (tea leaves readily absorb toxins from herbicides and pesticides--most are biodisruptors and toxic to humans). Two cups per day of green tea has been shown to be more effective for lowering blood pressure and helping diabetics lower their blood sugar levels.

5. Iodide/Iodine plus--good for reproductive tissues and thyroid. I take three times per week. While your body needs balanced forms of Iodine, you should avoid too much and irritating the thyroid. This will get rid of fiberous breast and uterine issues and hot flashes. Most women have large reproductive tissues and these really, really need iodide/iodine and we just don’t get enough. 6. Kyolic Garlic tab with natural balanced tocoperhols (vit E), good for heart and brain.

7. Green veggie juicing. low carb veggies (organic greens, cucumber, celery, tomato, asparagus--whatever you like) put in blender or juicer. I drink about a cup of green juice per day. Mercola recommends and has sold the Omega 8005 and it’s easy to use and clean. That’s what I use.

8. Astaxanthin. Same stuff that is in krill. Very nutritious. I take Krill oil or Astaxanthin tab every day. Right now I’m taking the Mercola Women’s Krill Oil. I give my husband the Krill Oil IQ.

And of course, a low carb, no grain diet. Sugars feed cancer cells. Everyone has 10,000 cancer cells in them waiting to go wild if you eat too many toxins, herbicides, pesticides, don’t stay healthy with exercise and supplements, etc. Fruits can only be processed by the liver and excessive eating of fruit will give you jaundice–a serious condition.

Only eat wild caught fish or organic. No farm raised non organic. You would not believe what some farmers feed their fish to make them grow quickly. The best salmon is dark pink with astaxanthin and nutrients.

Remember that supplements must be bioavailable. That means you can’t get cheap, junky synthetic supplements from a traditional MD or Walgreens or CVS. In general, if it’s synthetic, it’s slightly toxic to the human body and won’t work. The mega media only plants stories on how synthetic vitamins did something bad in a story. If you research the story you find out the vitamin E was synthetic, not bio available and slightly toxic. True bioavailable Vitamin E consists of natural mixed tocopherols which nourish your tissues and prevent disease and makes you feel better. Most MD’s won’t tell you that mega pharma keeps track of the scripts they write and while they can’t take kickbacks, the drug reps pay for happy hours where med info is supposedly distributed, clinical studies are discussed–it’s garbage. The best script writing docs are invited to “teach” seminars in tropical vacation destinations where food and hotel is free or low cost. Other docs just get amazing discounts at company owned timeshares and bulk airfares. Read: “Love and other drugs, story of a drug rep” by James Reidy or watch the movie to see the greed and corruption.

The US pays twice the next country for health care and is 47th in health–deaths from docs, hosptials, prescriptions used as prescribed, etc. are rampant. In fact, it’s so bad, that deaths from being hospitalized in a properly run hospital with proper hosptial protocol is the 4th leading cause of death. Deaths from prescription drugs and medical protocols–used in accordance with FDA and proper methods is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. Combined, they’re no. 1.

The stuff about how lawyers drive up the cost of health care is simply not true. Hundreds of thousands of people are injured from hospital care and prescriptions, but less than one percent sue! Litigation is clearly NOT protecting the interests of the public. Dangerous drugs like statins (which were only developed and intended to be used for hypercholesteroldemia–mega pharma expanded that marketing–and danger to the public), diabetes drugs like Avandia, Actos are $500 per month and result in heart attacks and heart damage.

Lawyers are NOT protecting the public from these dangerous drugs and medical procedures. No one is suing enough. Primarily this is because the insurance companies fix cases and engage in cronyism and wiring in the courtrooms. You have to often appeal to get somewhere.

Supplements? In the 70 years the CDC has been tracking deaths of all types–inclg. supplements and prescriptions, as mentioned, prescriptions are in the 300,000 range EACH year. Supplements? In 70 years the CDC noted 12 deaths from taking too much iron. Only iron supplements have ever created any problems, and it was still a rare occurrence.

Exercise? Okay, this is strange, but I've read tons and tons of Dr. Mercola's posts on his exercise guy who is young and buff. This exercise guy is great, but guess what? None of his stuff works for middle aged women. And then he sells a fancy vibrating machine, but those of us that live in Chicago know that the El does the same thing during one train ride during rush hour! Okay, that's funny.

What do I recommend as a 54 year old woman with the absolute worst metabolism there is? Found it in my mom's house! Miss Craig's 21 days shape up program from 1968. Yep, doing simple floor and sitting and standing exercises, this woman will tone and buff every muscle in your body and do it very safely. No jumping, twisting movements that destroy joints and delicate connective tissue. Use a few light weights and you get an invigorating 1 to 1.5 hr work out that lasts all day. Throw in a brisk half hour walk with the dogs and you're done. From this list I have learned why serious joggers drop dead all the time after a run and that's because if you're over 25 you scar and over stress your delicate arteries. I have worked with many, many elderly in the 90 to 110 year age and they will tell you they did not exercise, plenty drank. I haven't seen any active smokers in that group, but I know that plenty smoked years ago. I like to feel good and look trim, as best as I can with my lousy women in her 50's metabolism, so I'm sticking to Miss Craig's. Get the physical book for just a couple bucks on amazon or ebay used. If you want to decrease or avoid pain meds, here are some spiritual tips to reduce pain and speed up healing.
1) Ask St. Michael or Michelle for her healing scepter (same entity, angels have no gender because they do not incarnate, but most names, Ariel, Gabrielle, Uriah (Ursula), as feminine, but if you want to think that they're masculine for your purposes, that is fine too. Women, mothers, daughters and pregnant women esp. may find use of the feminine form helpful). The scepter is 3' long with two large balls at either end. Imagine this touching whatever area that is in need of healing or pain. The scepter is gold or bright white. It delivers a huge flow of green energy which is the energy for healing.
2) Take a bath in beautiful stained glass room with a tub full of green water. The water can be spring green for youth or medium green for intense healing. This is helpful for fevers and bacterial infections or systemic illnesses.
3) The star. This should be used no more than once per week. Imagine a star from the otherside, filled with power and healing. Place it on your affected area and meditate for 15 seconds that it has attached and is delivering healing energy. The star comes zooming from out of the stars in space with star energy and that is why it is so very powerful and should be used just once per week. It's color is gold or white.
4) Imagine the afflicted part being bathed in green light.
NONE of the above is meant as a substitute for a licensed doctor or healer, however. Doctors and healers are our angels on earth.

Quite a few times I have posted that farms, especially mega farms should be required to post internet videos of how the animals are kept and what they are fed (show packages).
Now animals rights groups (a great project) are doing that and showing how at Select Farms in Iowa the pigs are kept in cramped quarters, the baby pigs are castrated without any anesthesia, and their tails are also docked without anesthesia.
They show the videos outside the grocery stores and guess what? People buy other brands. Good for them.
All farmers should treat animals with dignity. They should be offered out door pasture and woods, weather permitting, and they should use anesthesia for surgical procedures. I am happy that someone is starting that requirement. The government should make a law.

This is a response to someone who was worried about how her posts disappear, or she read a great post and that disappeared. Or maybe the little badge thingie is changing a lot from one to another without rhyme or reason---
Don't worry. Sometimes the Mercola system glitches. You have to make sure your comments get up and stay up. It's not perfect, there are a lot of people viewing and posting, so just be patient. If there's something of importance, put it up on your own blog. It also gets those little girl scout badges wrong and confused, and the points are not always right either. Some people are crabby and upset because they don't have anyone to love them. I always send those that neg my posts a whole lot of peace and love. I mentally let it surround them and ease their pain and suffering in life. I mentally send them a thousand sparkly puffy hearts and a thousand roses of their favorite color and fragrance. I always look for the posts that have a grey badge and I post them some positive thoughts if no one else has and I add points to them. They need our love and understanding and not judgment.
So just have patience. Sometimes if it's a very good long post, be sure to save it in your word processor program and post again later when the system isn't so busy. Late at night is often best.
Life is not made out of little badges or little glitches. It is made out of peace and love. That is all you can take with you. That is what is truly precious in the world and makes the world absolutely wonderful. Keep that in your heart and write it on your soul. Never forget it.
