About Me
Have followed information on nutrition, organic/local food sourcing and natural healing since reading Diet for a Small Planet and Silent Spring early in my college days. I miss the time when you could trust as well-intentioned and genuine information you could get from your local "health food store" and products purchased from certain food companies, even if not always completely scientifically sound. I regret the co-opting of our organic food statutes and early organic food producers by agrabiz, such that Whole Foods is now considered a store with integrity and the shoppers best interests in mind when it comes to eating healthy, at least by many folks. As a "growing bolder" 60-something, I am heartened by the seeming resurgence of local, organic farming in some areas, and the substantial increase in access to information to assist people in retaking control of the management of their own health care. At the same time I am saddened by the ubiquitous assault of big pharma on potential "patients" for their products and on the doctors who are complicit in prescribing these medications as a first line of attack for symptoms and ailments that could more sensibly be treated from an integrative point of view, with much more positive results in most instances. We should reserve the use of our magnificent medications and procedures for those cases where they provide the best or only chance for a good outcome for the individual person, and not as a matter of convenience and profiteering. While I have stayed pretty well informed, I have been less than successful in following my own advice and I appreciate the information that Dr. Mrercola makes available as I try to regain fitness and lose the excess weight a busy and disorganized lifestyle has visited upon me.
