Hi Swinn, I'm not sure what I'm doing here. You wrote in your post to email you through your profile page and I'm hoping this is the way to do it. We're Emptyspace and Harvey. You said that you could offer suggestions regarding his diet. He suffering a lot. My main concern is that he's not able to eliminate. How long can a dog last like that? It's so painful for him when he tries and he wants to go...he has the urge because he rushes as fast as he can to get to the grass. He holds the position for a short while, then has to move on because his legs won't hold him up. He'll try moving on to numerous places, squats and will finally be able to release a very small amount. After all that effort for almost nothing, he has to try to get up the three steps into the house. He's very sad. This is painful to watch as he's always been such a happy, comical, loyal, loving companion. Here's a little about him: He's a chocolate lab, 9 years old and presently weighs 92 lbs. but slim. He's always been given a combination of home cooked and whatever dry food is recommended in the Whole Dog Journal. Since I switched him to a Sr. food last summer, he's been eating Orijen Sr. brand. I've always been careful to keep any type of grain away from him and have dehydrated liver for treats along with chicken breasts and duck breasts. He eats, fresh fruit and vegetables (however, not organic). For the past two years he gets an 11 strain probiotic, MSM, chondroitin and glucosomine, fish oil, blue solar water added to his water, he sleeps on Nikken mattress with a far infrared blanket on top. He's recently been getting acupuncture and laser treatments on his back and hind leg and is on a Chinese herbal pain relief called Body Sore and on days where he's very sore (which is this past week) I give him 100 mg of Tramadol. Since he was a puppy he's been getting TTouch treatments daily, Reiki in the mornings and several months ago, I've been looking at acupressure, and treating him at home along with all the above. My husband takes him faithfully for walks, which stopped about two months ago when his leg would increasingly get worse. He now goes out twice a day and I walk him around the back yard, just to keep his joints from seizing up. He's been showing some strange behaviour, like wanting to hide in the closet. He's become frightened of sounds in the house, like the wind, the furnace turning on, and has become very stressful during storms. When he gets agitated like that I put his thundershirt on.... Trying to keep a log/diary with food changes and results - First time she actually vomited was two days ago; then once again last night. Now...keep in mind that this is a cat that has NEVER vomited - Ever... (the only previous signs of allergy were the scratching around the face & ears and the hair loss in those areas). I just read some HORRIBLE reviews about this product & am extremely dissapointed. Feeding raw is not an option - She also refuses canned. What in the world could I possibly try now? Truly at a loss. Don't know if I should immediately take her off the Blue Basic or is it probable that she is vomiting as her system gets used to it and I should ride it out for 4-6 wks. The scratching does seem to have subsided some - at least she isn't scratching where she actually makes a scab. Idk - anytime a cat vomits, it just doesn't seem like a good sign to me. Sooo... now I know that if I send you a message, I can't see it... but if I write you a comment, I can see it... the reason for my need to see it is be reminded of what I wrote. That way I won't sound like a complete ninny repeating myself. SINCE I don't remember all of what I posted... sorry in advance for restating. Today is the day after our visit with Dr. Lemmon. Chief is VERY stiff and sore. Maybe all the B12 injections did that? He seems to always be stiff and sore though. Chinese herbal drops have been added to the regimen. Something for joint support. Dr. L showed me the book and it 's author... but I don't remember his name. But, he's a vet AND a human doc...which I thought was interesting. Maybe that combo will ring a bell for you? I'm scared to tell you this, but I am re attempting the raw diet. :-]... I have Dr. Beckers latest version of the Raw Foods diet book. I've nearly read it through once and will go through it again once done. It is PACKED with information. Holy Moly! So, now I'm gathering ingredients in order to make the recipes. I discussed with Dr. L. some of your concerns about imbalances... especially calcium to phos. He seemed to really want to know what the concerns were. I told him I'd have to go home and print out all your posts. I may just have to buy Darwins... it's sounding that much easier every day. For some reason I can't imagine blenderising a bunch of bloody organs! Is that really what I'm going to do? The blender I have is from the 1970's and not even close to being strong enough for bone... and it has trouble with frozen fruit for crying out loud. Anyway, this is sounding negative...sorry. Two positives from the visit were that Chief lost 4 pounds, and as far as I can tell, he has not left and 'special packages' for me to find (poo). So Dr. L. believes that to be an improvement. guess I'll run with it! :-) I hope you're having a great Friday. Hi, thanks for writing back. I'm so far from home, out of my routine and lots of sitting around. Urg. Time here seems to have slowed waaaayyyyyyyyy down. I forgot how much a newborn can do that to a persons life. It sounds terrible, but I booked too much time down here. My 'job' here is done. They are getting it (would have gotten it without me, I know). Due to Nicole being induced, despite that I had a plane ticket, made it so I had to fly down 3 days earlier than originally intended. Gabriel wasn't chomping at the bit to 'get out' but for some reason the doc stripped her membranes to speed along the process... Hence the reason I'm down here extra long. To the new parents credit, they have managed the rough nights 'up' without me. I told them to get me up if they needed me. Yes, formula, not good, but I wasn't aware of any other option since her milk hadn't come in yet and nothing to pump. Besides, even if I knew of something, I'm sure the kids wouldn't have listened to me. That's been a bit of a 'row' for me with my son. :( That's all in the past now, and Gabriel's getting straight breast milk. :-) Yesterday, Nicole made herself an espresso!!! Not 100% positive if that's why the baby was awake and fussy for a lot of the day... but when she asked why is he awake so much I mentioned (walking on egg shells) that she had had an espresso.. to which she replied, "but, it wasn't very much". sigh... live and learn, on their part and mine. But, she did ask! Sorry, if I'm painting a bad picture. It hasn't been all bad. My son and I get along very well, most of the time. I think he felt insecure and a bit threatened with not knowing what he was doing, and took my 'help' as a challenge... classic immaturity.. again...sigh. Onward... it's been really hot here. But, I've heard from a friend in AZ that it been hovering around 114. Not sure what it's been here, but we don't go outside much at all. If we do, it's from one AC place or vehicle to another. Remember I was asking for help with their dog, a French Mastiff? She was having difficulty gaining weight? Well, they switched her to Blue Buffalo... something kibble(sorry don't have all the details), but she still looks very thin to me. They keep insisting that it's typical for a dog her Mayas' breed to look that way. Maybe I'm just used to chunky Chief! :-) Raw is not an option for them, at least at this point in time... money is tight, and buying the more expensive dog food was HUGE for them to do. I didn't want to be so bold or nosy to ask! Yes, all is well! Thanks for asking! :-) Just busy helping out. My Grandson arrived Wed. June 15th at 1:54pm, and he weighed 8lb 14oz, 20 1/2" long. Big boy! Gabriel has since had his first pediatrician check up and has only lost 2 oz. My daughter in law Nicole, is determined to breast feed only, but is having difficulty with flat nipples (TMI?!?!) Anyway, it's been difficult... and a breast pump was purchased in order to keep her milk from stopping, and keep Nicole comfortable. Now of course, Gabriel has got a little bit of nipple confusion going on, not to mention it's wayyy easier to suck from a bottle. I mean, I have advice but have not had personal experience with, er, uhm flat nipples . . .sorry... TMI again :-) Anyway, we had an appointment with another pediatrician today... this time female and she's also a lactation consultant. The appointment went well, and she had lots of helpful advice. So, we went away with success and hopefully on the the road to full time nursing. Even though Nicole and Gabriel will only be down here for another month or less, it would be worth switching to this new pediatrician, IMO. I haven't had access to the internet or computer...long story. But, now we have the internet back, though I still have to share the laptop... :-( Paul (husband) is home alone... we were like two ships in the night that never passed... I left for TX on Monday the 13th and he got home from Korea on Wed. the same week. So, Chief is back on Evo plus supp's for now. Kitty unfortunately is only getting canned Merrick. I thought it too much to ask Paul to feed any differently. I shall start again when I get back. Speaking of which I get back on the 29th ... at this point it seems like a looooooooooong way away. So, all that to say things are well... I think the little guy looks like my side of the family... and can't wait to get back home and look at baby pictures of Greg and myself! It will give you a better understanding of a logical argument when approached with this type of situation. I've heard about garlic curing ear infections, and I think that's amazing! :) I actually think I might have an outter ear infection at the moment (get them all the time), so I might give that a try on myself! :) Well thanks again for all the help! Hi Shawna! It's great to hear from you!! :) I hope you've been doing well? How's your grandbaby doing?? :) Thanks for thinking of me and the furkids! We're all doing well. Sadie has actually moved in with my mom's boyfriend. He has a huge property out in the middle of nowhere lol! It's fenced in, but it's so huge that you can't even see the fence. Sadie now runs around all day with his other three dogs who are sooo sweet. At night and in the winter she lives in the downstairs of his house. So she's spoiled and now gets to run wild everyday (which I couldn't give her living here in the city). The best part is that I can see her anytime I want :) So now it's just me, my hubby, and Andy. Poor little Andy has always had problems. His skin is much better thanks to your advice :) He still gets sores, but not nearly as much as there was, and there's no rashes anymore. The only thing I worry about is his eyes. He can't see too much anymore :( He'll be 4 years next month, so he's not old or anything. It's just this darned dry eye.
