Using acupuncture via the NAET method (look up NAET.com), my body went back to normal again and pretty quickly. Chewy, my Sheltie, has thyroid dysfunction. I think he needs to detox from exposure to RoundUp and other lawn chemicals. Do you know what I can use to detox him gently since he is just recovering from Colitis this last month? I hope you are doing well. Thank you for your advice. I won't deny although that environmental toxins add to the disease --- as due poor quality, less bioavailable, proteins.. Probiotics "in nitrogen trapping" consume the urea eliminating it from the blood and spares the kidneys from the extra workload. Creatinine is a waste product of the enzyme creatine found in muscle tissue. It too becomes elevated in kd. I'm ALL EARS if you know something I don't :) :) :) After only a quick search, I couldn't find any data on NO/ONO metabolic cycle Dr. Ron Paul? "Her congenital KD and her allergies can be traced to toxic exposures to the mother, even before pregnancy." Audrey was the runt of a litter of six. The vet felt there wouldn't be more then 3 pups (for the size/breed of the mother). Audrey is the only pup to this day to show any signs of illness. Although I can definitely see where toxins could play a role (grandparents on mom's side were puppy mill breed dogs / father belongs to a family that is just above poverty level and dad eats poor quality foods -- although unvaccinated for the same reason). In Audrey's case -- I think it had more (not all) to do with nutrition and time of conception. Mom was bred the whole time in heat -- just over two weeks. I'm betting Audrey was conceived on one of the last days. Being late in the game she didn't get the same nourishment that the older pups got. D-glutamate, the unbound kind, being toxic, damages those receptors (Dr. Blaylock's book) and the ability to make more glutathione. NSAIDS, use the same receptors and destroy the bodies ability to make more glutathione. Gluten/ gliadin, just more of the same... Less available glutathione, the more toxins that are free floating through out the body and lodged in cells, causing damage." I've just begun researching this but ----- fascinating!!!! One question this brought up for me --- Dr. Blaylock feels supplementing with glutamine can be dangerous for those suseptible but glutamine is necessary for the formation of glutathione -- correct? So is it natural food based glutamine (when in conjunction with cystein(sp) and the thrid in the tri that is healthful and necessary.. Or, is supplementation of glutamine really okay? Second burning question --- do you feel that the small amount of exposure that the dogs had to the offending products did enough damage to cause chronic symptoms? Gizmo the Pom -- broke her leg at 4 months of age and I'm assuming was on an NSAID. Came to me at 6 months. At 1 year reacted to rabies vaccs by having a SMALL seizure. At 2 years had to revaccinate (due to 1 year being 1 year shot) and again a SMALL seizure. At close to 3 years she hurt her back and allopthic vet with emergency hours gave her ONE NSAID which she reacted to with colitis. I imagine (trying to read your mind here :) you will tell me that she likely had previous exposure that was still clearning out when coming to me? No idea of her background -- good breeder, puppy mill etc. I see your point on the beef now as well!! "Another secondary detox pathway that we often see is fat loading in adipose tissue." Giz was spayed at about 1 and 1/2 years old. She immediately started gaining weight and was 2 pounds heavier in three months on the same food. She has since lost this weight and is back to her normal petite little self but it took almost 2 years to get it off despite being on a high protein, grain free, moderate fat diet.. I thought this was always hormonal but now I have to wonder if it wasn't a reaction to the drugs used for spaying...??? She also developed a lipoma which is now almost completely gone.. Hmmmm Any idea why some seem more tolerant of toxins then others? I should be healthier then my hubby - he smokes, did drugs when younger, drank like a fish when younger, eats junk food, eats gluten sugar and dairy daily, uses tap water to make his morning coffee (too much trouble to fill the pot with filtered?), works in an industrial setting (as an electrician), has phthalate laden air freshners hanging from his rear view mirror, works on gas engines as a hobby, family history of disease (msg toxicity and diabetes) etc but outwardly is healthier then I.... Argh... He should really be dead by now!! :) I have a good insurance policy on him.. Hee hee Back to researching :) Shawna

Jenn,

Meant to address a couple things first. I am ANAL about using only bamboo spatchulas ect in my Calphalon pans.. The one I tossed my hubby got too with a fork.. Made him replace it with a Calphalon Stainless pan as punishment :) Now he takes me seriuos... As mine die I will replace them with stainless. I have had a bit of trouble with sticking.. I'll have to experiment to see what I'm doing wrong.. I seem to just react to freed glutamate vs that bound to other nutrients in whole foods.. Thankfully!! I know a couple people that are soooo sensitive they can't have anything fermented. I read "Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills" by Dr. Blaylock but I was in a brain fog state and really need to re-read it now that I'm a bit more clear.. I do still have room for improvement though.. "Allergies" hormone injections in standard industry beef --- they certainly do add to the toxic load for sure.. Audrey has eaten organic foods her entire life and still managed to develop allergies. Her liver :) was stressed due to the extra workload required of it due to the kd. I made the HUGE mistake by feeding her barley (it is a good source of fermentable fiber and fermentable fiber is VERY useful to help clean the toxins from the blood -- can prolong the symptoms of kd --- nitrogen trapping). The fermentable fibers inulin and FOS are the reason burdock root is the "blood purifying" herb. Back to the barley -- has gluten/gliadin which can cause inflammation to the intestines which causes leakage which causes multiple allergies. Dogtor J is REALLY a great source of information on food allergies and intolerances.. He feels that ALL true allergies are secondary to the main 4 -- soy, corn, gluten & dairy. As you state though --- how many of the "allergies" are not actually true allergic reactions? My head always goes to food allergies when there's itching without any skin trauma.. We are more inclined to look to the things we have experienced aren't we? :) In all honesty though, I think allergies (even if caused by the toxic liver) are more prevalent then given credit for. Many sites say they are rare but four of the dogs in my home react to foods. Gizmo is intolerant of chicken and turkey (although it was NSAID's (prior to my home) that set her up for the intolerance). Audrey is allergic due to damage done from gluten. Mimi (foster dog) is allergic to lamb and my newest foster Kippie is apparently allergic to something. Foster's get organic raw too. I have yet to find her allergy - if there really is one. The other day she acted like her hind end was giving her fits but I didn't document what they had been eating.. Too many dogs (9 total) not to document right now... Heck she could be detoxing -- that could have been what her rescuer was seeing??? Audrey's kidney damage is chronic and from all I've read it is irreversible. The kidneys do not regenerate when they are that damaged. I have seen ONE doctor poo poo that notion but even most holistic practitioners say it is progressive and eventually fatal.. Acute kd can be reversed. I think what happens with acute is there at too many toxins for the kidneys to keep up with and unless caught and treated leads to a quick death. Chronic kd has a better outcome short term but long term is fatal. I'm praying for the miracle but preparing for the worst case scenario. Fact is she's been with me 2 1/2 years longer then the average dog with congenital kd. I'm also not doing ANYTHING that is recommended. I'm a maverick :).. Anyhoo, need to get going. Thanks again for the great conversations and letting me bend your ear :) Shawna

Hit "Publish" too quickly.. Meant to address a couple things first.

Thanks again for the great conversations and letting me bend your ear :)

As do some carpeting and my area rugs are not high end so I would assume they probably do. I have a vinyl (ugh) cover over my mattress to protect it from foster dogs marking... etc My father is a Naturopathic Doctor and Master Herbalist so I had guidance earlier on in holistic health.. I'm also a Scorpio - good researcher/tenacious/inquisitive etc and take info I hear that seems realistic and reasonable and go about researching it myself.. Allows me a deeper knowledge then just hearing it.. :) I've read the Safe Shopper's Bible, frequent the website Skin Deep on a regular basis, EWG, Dr. Samuel Epsteins website, Weston Price, one of my faves on nutrition Dr. Royal Lee etc etc etc.. But I still manage to learn something new almost daily :) Ohh I think I mentioned this -- one of my favorite books is Never Be Sick Again -- there are two causes of disease --- toxins and nutrient dificiencies.. I don't have any questions for you currently although that could change in a moments notice.. I will learn more by reading your posts and asking questions as they come up and/or researching your site. I use Aura Cacia essential oils.. I believe Young Living is supposed to be better but many if not most of their products are out of my price range -- unless I give up fostering.. :) Ohhhh here's a question for you --- I don't use tephlon (PFOA) but I use the high end Calphalon cookware that is anodyzed aluminum.. Any thoughts/concerns. Supposedly the aluminum doesn't contaminate the food unless the pan is scratched (I've thrown one away due to scratches) but I have a hard time trusting manufacturers to be compeltely honest.. Imagine that :) My Pom's eyes -- actually, the eye debris was chronic (for this dog) and was due to a diet a bit too high in calcium. Beth, Dr. Becker's nutritionist, mentioned the premade I was using as a base protein was a bit high in bone.. I was adding protein to the base but not enough. As soon as I made the minor adjustment my Pom's eyes cleared up --- literally days (after having the eye goo for over a year). Her eyes now are almost always clear. Jan Rasmusen is doing a lot of research on tear staining/debris. Discusses it on her dogs4dogs.com website.. My Pom does detox through her eyes still but she may have staining and or debris for a day or two. Nothing chronic any long. And yes, it sometimes is blackish although not always. Sometimes its more redish. My foster dog has tear staining (red) right now too. I had to take her off of raw and put her back on kibble :( Long story.. I do feed completely raw, grain free foods. I even ferment veggies for the dogs. Also give them Standard Process Chlorophyl, spirulina, seaweeds, fresh and free range eggs, organic glandulars (Standard Process as well), Wheat grass, chia seeds, pumpkin seed oil etc. Not all at the same time of course. :) Audrey is my dog that has congenital kidney disease. We noticed symptoms even before she was weened. She was officially diagnosed at one year of age. Exempt for all shots for life (never vaccinated for rabies - first puppy shots on other core vaccines), no preventatives, weaned onto a raw diet etc. She's 4 1/2 years old and still in early stages of kd and unmedicated (except neutraceuticals), no special diet etc. I'm as careful with toxins in my home as I can be as it very literally could make the difference between life and death for Audrey. This is becoming a book so ---- thanks for the website info and I would love to read your book once written... Welcome to the site. I know many people will be able to benefit from your knowledge. HORRIBLE!! I have issues with msg/aspartame.. Diagnosed with brain lesions in early 20 via MRI.. I started having symptoms when I was 12 years old.. Not sure if I was having eye migranes or transient ishmec attacks (mini strokes) as my symtoms is seen in both but different in eye migrains and it seems odd that I would have been have mini strokes at age 12.. ?? Anyhoo -- I can't eat hardly anything premade as it may have msg -- as you mentioned flavorings and spices... ARGH... Carrageenan is the main source (so far that I've found) of msg in dog food - canned foods that is.. I'm curious if you've read "Never Be Sick Again" by Raymond Francis? It was the book that MOST inspired me to look at the world from a truly holistic point of view.. Not just alternatives but holistic.. If you haven't read it I think you would enjoy it... He was at the brink of death and and went through a SERIOUS bout of chemical sensitivity -- even to the plastic of his phone... I would LOVE to read some of your material... Does "MCS" Beacon of Hope or do you have a website? I am Native American as well -- I'm not sure what percentage though as my biological father was not in my life at all.. I do have the traits - skin color, high cheekbones (Cherokee), dark, straight hair etc.. Good talking with you.. Hope your Sunday is pleasant!!!
