Representatives of the FBI's Electronic Surveillance Technology Section have met at least twice in the past three weeks with senior officials of the Federal Communications Commission to lobby for proposed new Internet-eavesdropping rules. The FBI-drafted plan seeks to force broadband providers to provide more efficient, standardised surveillance facilities and could substantially change the way that cable modem and DSL companies operate.

I hope the government listens to my conversations. I have plenty to say, and can't get an ear any other way. I think confiscatory taxes, denial of school vouchers, mandatory social security, etc... erode far more of public rights than listening to conversations.

I have to say that I am really disappointed with this website for sharing this clip from Fox News without attempting to prove/disprove or check the information in any way. Most people with half a brain realise that at many stories on Fox are total rubbish. I now find myself doubting everything I read here, which is a shame.

A bunch of hooey! Think about it. Even if someone could signal you mic on for your cell phone, in order for that cell phone to send any information (which it must do if you claim to be able to hear from someone's mic), then full phone power is required. I'm sure this will come out as a new Urban Legend soon.

The USA also manipulate the weather via Ultra High Frequencies. Enough of that, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, and all of history's bad guys would love what we as the foremost freedom beacon have become. Large corporations spy on Americans they say for marketing purposes, but really it is a back door means for the government to spy on it's citizens. Every phone call, every debit card, or credit card transaction, every web-site visited, your government knows it all. We as Americans have no "Privacy."

You see we are not an independant land, or government, our so called government leaders are only pupets, and those who run things like being in the shadows, the thing conspiracy nuts believe in. Control the economics, control the people. We have taxes simply to limit our ability to gather wealth. You cannot throw it away, let the government do so for you. Take heart, we are not as free as we think we are.

1) It is the lawful & proper JOB of a government spy agency to spy on the enemies of that government.

2) The NSA spies on most if not all American Citizens.

3) That clearly demonstrates that the U.S. government considers most if not all American Citizens to be its enemies.

4) It simply doesn't get any clearer than that.

5) Perhaps that is even EXACTLY why, as Newt Gingrich points out, the U.S. government is a big part of the "The World That Fails" [to work FOR American Citizens]: It considers them to be its enemies, and it would make no strategic sense whatsoever for a government to work successfully on behalf of its own enemies. This now makes perfect sense.

I am an RF (radio Frequency) engineer

and design cell sites.

i have 2 FCC (Federal Communications Commision) Licenses

The can NOT listen to you if your phone is off

The mechanism to amplify the audio AND to transmit the signal isnt there with no power.

WIth no power these is no way to turn on the mic either.

If the phone is on i still think it exremely unlikely unless you are on a call.

If anyone believes everything coming out of

the (FOX) Faux Noise chanel

then they deserve to be paraniod

and have bigger problems than worrying about someone listening to their calls.

That said

we DO have to worry about our Government

Talking of losing more and more of your Freedoms. In the United Kingdom there are more CCTV cameras than anywhere else in Europe, the British are the most watched nation in the European Union.

New Labour's party chairman opened their recent party meeting by greeting their members in the audiency: "Welcome Comrades".

Steadily and regularly, the British way of life has and is being eroded as more and more legislation, burocracy and rules and regulations make the lives of British people more difficult.

A regular term used in the UK is PC; Political Correctness, a situation that has been brought about by faceless dangerous burocrats who are intent on turning the British way of life upside down with all the consequencies that are seen today; i.e. racial tension, fanatical Islam, rising gun, knife and drug crime and the government remains in denial.

The British government are now considering using UAVS; unmanned aerial vehicles; pilotless aircraft to patrol the skies of Britain under the pretense that they will be watching for terrorists...........but some people think they will be watching out for those who are using garden hosepipes watering their magnolias and breaking the law.

Another reason for privacy can cost individuals and companies lots of money if someone intercepts trade secrets and steals them. There is alot more at stake when your privacy is invaded than you think. There are some folks who could care less about what others hear about them - they have nothing to lose. There are many who simply want their privacy for whatever reasons. Regardless, we are entitled to privacy unless there is cause to invade it.

Question on Macs having problems on this site. I have found on at least 3 sites I use regularly that when the "owner" upgrades their site or does "any" changes it "can and usually does" hamper YOUR/mac users ability to utilize their sites. Bellsouth's recent upgrade knocked me out for a bit until I informed them that my Mac had not had ANY changes done to it so it had to be something they had done that knocked me out of the loop. Most sites are made pc accessable first and macs get second shrift. ok before you jump on me I KNOW it's a different platform etc etc but please (programmers) make it for all of us to use.

You can't just put a frequency counter to a cellphone that is turned "off".

Today's phones are actually in standby mode - the circuit is still active, if even only a few microvolts holds a pin high on the microcontroller. The phone must be activated by a signal from a cell tower FIRST - then it will transmit w/ the display circuitry completely off. Open a phone and punch in the chip numbers into a search engine for spec sheets. This is BY DESIGN for the supposed "911" emergency requirements.

New models will work like passive RFID (a tuned coil "rings" in response to a specific RF frequency), so removing the battery will be useless (powered by RF not unlike a crystal radio). The best way to silence it is to stick it in a metal container (faraday cage).

Be paranoid... be very paranoid!

- well, I guess I´ve been out of college too long, because nowadays, I am unable to discern between "criminals," the family Bush-Clinton-Bush, the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, Blackwater, etc. I am frightened by all the fraudulent, "Terrorists are going to strike us tomorrow, perhaps day after," announcements that the intimidated and bribed news media stupidly publish. I saw a sign somewhere that read, "Behind Every Terrorist there is a Bush." Now, what could that mean? I never thought I´d see the day when Russia, China and Japan would balance off the aggression of the leadership of the USA, but it has been here for six years, already. Braunstein
