1. Melons are very energetically cold and damp, and Chinese medicine teaches that for healthy digestion, we need to eat warming, dry foods. Furthermore, even from a Western perspective, food combining teaches that melons must be eaten alone to be properly digested, and certainly not with protein foods such as milk.

2. Milk, too, Chinese medicine teaches, is cold and damp. Organic or not, it may be a great food for calves, but unless it is fresh from the cow, (within 24 hours of milking), unless it is unpasteurized and unhomogenized, and unless the patient is severely debilitated and tends to feel hot, it is just not a very healthy food at all! The fat levels are much higher than mothers milk, and the milk protein and lactose are highly allergic. Once it is pasteurized it loses most of its enzymatic benefit, and the homogenization (which is exascerbated by blending it in a smoothy!) makes the fat molecules smaller and causes them to seep through the digestive lining into the blood stream, putting stress on the immune system and causing allergies.

3. The problem related above of cold and damp foods, causes the digestion to slow down and creates phlegm, which the Chinese say is the root of both congestion and fat involving weight gain.

I make various types of raw smoothies for brakfast every morning. I'd like to suggest Luci try this one: 3 organic kiwii, 2 bananae and raw milk (no sweetener needed). Instead of peeling the kiwii, shave the fuzz off the skin with a sharp knife without breaking the skin. By preserving the skin the nutrients in it are kept and if it's organic there's no worry about pesticides being on the skin: then blend it all together with the whizzer upper. (Kiwiis are said to contain twice as much vitamin C as oranges)

To the above ingredients vendors would add a touch of vanilla extract and a raw egg. Besides cantaloupe the other fruit used quite often was papaya.

This is somewhat random, but I am about to harvest raw honey from my wall:

Talk about eating local. We may have enough honey for a winter's worth of smoothies.
