And, the more you drink, the more your risk of cancer increases. He drank so much that he got cancer, had to have his leg amputated, my uncle got *** cancer, and my future father in-law has cancer as well from his drinking and smoking. His doctor told him that he needs to stop drinking or he will die. I understand that one cannot just, bam, stop drinking in one day. But he hasn't even made an effort. I'm afraid he won't live for that much longer, unless by some miracle he decides to live a healthier life (unlikely, knowing him) or if the doctor was wrong and he can keep drinking and smoking and be fine (also unlikely, knowing common sense).

My boyfriend used to get drunk practically every weekend before he met me. I voiced my concerns and he doesn't drink nearly as much. I am afraid for his health a lot of days, when I see him drinking diet Coke with Lime, or eating all the junk food that he does. I send him these newsletters though, so I think his bad habits may be changing soon enough. He's a smart man, not nearly as stubborn as his father. The whole drinking/smoking scene is overrated I think, and honestly isn't worth peoples' lives if you ask me. People can water it down all they want, putting large amount of alcohol into your body weekly and even daily for some people, and sucking smoke from a cancer stick, isn't going to make your health better, so how can people ignore the fact that it makes it much worse?

If people read the Old Testament of the Bible and ate the way it says to, I bet over half (probably more) of all diseases in this country would be wiped completely out. Alcohol is perfectly legal and advertised everywhere but something that grows (marijuana) is illegal. Maybe is has something to do with the fact that it is easier to control alcohol. Hmmmm!!

Before the cancer was discovered he was initially misdiagnosed. Three months later he was dead. For most of his life he was a heavy smoker, that 's what those who wanted to prove their manhood did but, from his teens he was a drinker and a heavy one too; wine being his favourite beverage ("I'm not an alcoholic" so he believed). Prior to death he was physically fit and active; he regulary played golf, would spend most of his days in retirement walking his dogs in the local countryside, he would cycle almost everywhere he went and also mountain biking, and he was slim built. He boasted about his fitness, that was until 3 months ago. One wonders how long he would have lived if he was a more modest drinker or if he had been teetotal? It sure saved his pension scheme a lot of money. He did, however, get his three score and ten in but he has left behind a very saddened wife but tha's life I guess.

Certainly, alcohol IS a toxin, poisonous even to the organisms who produce it - there's no dispute there, but for someone who has optimal liver function (virtually free of accumulated toxins), has optimal whole food nutrition (including high amounts of methyl donors), and has a positive mental outlook, ethanol (alcohol) and its by-product acetaldehyde will have little ill effect on tissues and cells if consumed in moderation (1 glass per day for females, 2 glasses per day for males). The first blogger made a good point, and that is that possibly those who drank alcohol also had poor diets and nutrition, which could have led to the increased risk.
