My point was not to prove creation or disprove evolution. You are totally entitled to your opinion on however you believe the universe began. I respect that. BTW, you cannot prove evolution either. I do appreciate you stating it as a theory, not a fact, for that is correct. In order to prove it scientifically it would have to be observable and repeatable. That isn't possible to do, obviously. Creationism and evolution are both beliefs. I personally believe in the Creator of the Bible and a literal 6 day creation written about in the book of Genesis. This account does not talk about a "big bang" (or any size bang for that matter), nor does it speak of God using evolution to create human beings. Personally, since I wasn't there at the point God created, I figured I would just take His word on how it all happened. Not sure where you get your eye witness account from, but I would be interested to know.

My point was that what you believe about origins does impact how you view yourself, others, life and the planet itself. You simply can't disengage the two. If human beings are still evolving, then we can mess with our bodies any way we want. But if there is a reason we are here and we have been designed for a specific purpose from the very beginning, then following that design is always the best plan. My point is that stopping the process of menstruation is in fact denying a part of being female and the way the Creator designed us.

If you want to know more about the scientific evidence for a literal 6-day creation and why it matters, go to www.answersingenesis.org .

I have had problems like your daughter and it is due to excess androgens (male hormones), more specifically due to DHT (dehydroxytestosterone). I don't think I have PCOS but I am pretty sure I do know what I have which is something like PCOS but not exactly the same, I just don't want the modern medical treatment for it (steroids), so I don't bother to get the tests.

Too much DHT can make you loose hair or grow it in places it does not belong, break out with cystic acne because of the affect on the pores, etc. Saw Palmetto is a DHT blocker (the dose you take determines how much blockage). The only kind that works for me is liquid Saw Palmetto, I buy Nature's Answer. I started out 1,500 mgs 2 times a day, morning and bedtime, then lowered it to once a day once my skin cleared up. You have to be careful as you can gain weight if you take too much, but you can't take the standard dose either if you want it to work. If you have too much DHT, it helps to balance it.

This is the stuff I take.

I courageously got off of the pill November 2006, with the fear that the worst would return. I had a pain free, "didn't even know I was on my period" blissful 6 months. That was 4 months ago. The last 4 months I have returned to the pain wrenching periods I experienced as a teen. I have heard that a low body weight contributes to painful periods. In my teens I was 5'5" 90 pounds (scrawny to be polite). Today I am still 5'5", but now weighing 115 pounds (still thin in many eyes). I don't want to pack on the pounds as a resolution to my challenging cycles; plus I think it would be unnatural for me seeing that I've been fairly small all of my life. I would like any advice anyone has to control the vomitting, vertigo and discomfort I go through. It's not fun and it truly interferes with my life. I have a professional job and I fear that one day I'm going to be somewhere and it's going to hit me so unexpectedly and I don't know what I'll do. I don't like this concern being a part of my daily life either. Stress and worry never helps. Any suggestions? Going back on the pill is not an option for me.

I wore them through the '70s and the '80s (I say "them" because I removed it when I wanted another child). They were non-reactive, came in little triangle or S-shapes, were uncoiled into a straw and so inserted into the uterus. The process is painless except for one little cramp. A doc is supposed to remove it when you are ready to conceive again, but I just pulled it out meself, no problem. (It is attached to a thin wire which you could not mistake for a tampon string). There are no side effects and to my knowledge, very few women report any issues with them. You simply don't know it is there.

As I understand it, the principle is that the body will not conceive when there is a foreign body in the uterus. This was the perfect solution for me and I fail to understand why IUDs are not more frequently recommended.

re: Is Menstruation Necessary?

I can't believe what most of you are saying!!! ... that "it's God's will that we menstruate or that we shouldn't mess with Mother Nature". I am shocked that so many women are still living in the Dark Ages. How many of you had an epidural during childbirth, or have given your child medicine when they got sick. How is Birth Control different than an epidural or medicine for a sick child? The Human Race has evolved and so has Medicine. That said; "yes" we need to be diligent in what we put in our bodies, but I don't believe there is anything wrong with the idea of wanting to stop menstruation.

I personally had extremely painful periods from the time I started menstruating. On a number of occasions, my parents had to take me to emergency. My doctor finally put me on Depo Provera (I was not eligible for the Pill because of a history of stroke in my family, and because I experienced aura with my migraines). Depo has been a life saver ... I am no longer crouched over in pain for a week every month. Aside from minimal weight gain, I have had no side-effects.

In all other aspects of my life I am diligent about my health. I do not drink or smoke, I'm a vegetarian, I mainly eat organic food, I exercise daily, and I see a naturopath regularly (who, by-the-way, has nothing against Depo Provera because it has single-handedly given me a new lease on life).

Come on ladies ... please stop this ridiculous notion that "women are meant to suffer". There is a whole new world out there that doesn't include Bleeding, Pain, Cramps, PMS, Bloating, Moodiness ... need I go on ???

P.S. Dr.Mercola, I am normally a big fan, but there is something SO wrong about a man telling women that they can be liberated by ditching birth control medications!!

Unfortunately, What I didn't know was that the effects of the pill would stay in my system, and that diet and excersize could help. i didn't know what a detox was. Here I am, five years later a very wounded woman. I have gained over 70 POUNDS in those five years, and no diet ever worked for me. Soon I began to realize that there was something wrong INSIDE my body, that my body was trying to tell me something.

The worst of it is, one month ago I found out I was Pregnant, and a week after that had learned it was an ectopic pregnancy. I have always wanted to be a mother, but this seemed a little excessive. I've heard that no one knows the cause, but i'm not so sure. If anyone has any advice so I can get healthy again and have healthy babies, please help. The loss of my child is very hard to bear, but i believe that the hormonal imbalances still in my body after taking the pill is what caused it.

I tell all my friends to stay away fromt the pill.

I was considering doing this until I read Suzanne Sommers book 'Ageless'. In her book she explains how stopping the menstrual cycle tells the body it is no longer reproductive which triggers the decline in the immune system and more rapid aging. Being in a reproductive state, the female body is at it's healthiest in order to support pregnancy. When no longer reproductive, the body begins to breakdown which is natures cycle of life. I use bioidentical hormones in a similar cycle to what my body always had, which enables my body to shed the uterine lining every month. At times this is most inconvenient but I believe I am much healthier doing it this way.
