Sovann, marijuana and hemp, aka industrial hemp, are both varieties of cannabis, but they are very different in psychotropic effect. Marijuana has an abundance of "mind-altering" THC (more or less, depending upon how it is cultivated), while hemp is not only extremely low in this substance, it also has an element that prevents "marijuana highs." Poppy seeds and opium both come from the poppy plant, but you can't get high from poppyseeds any more than you can from hempseed.

By the way, the reason marijuana was demonized and made illegal was not to prevent the "marijuana orgies" depicted in anti-marijuana posters of the early 20th century, but to quash the use of industrial hemp as direct competition to the timber and nylon industries. (You didn't think that a society that promoted the use of alcohol and touted tobacco as healthful was actually concerned about a few folks getting their buzz from marijuana, did you?) I feel sad for all the millions of people the drug companies have murdered! I try to stay away from their FDA approved prescriptions let alone their clinical trials or "experiemental Drug study". Is there a difference between the two? I wish people would STOP trusting Pharmaceuticals and Dr's who push them as gospel!

Re rheumatoid arthritis: get rid of all your metal (amalgam) fillings as a start. Someone suggested getting off pasteurized dairy; perhaps get off dairy for a few months, then try raw, like plain live yogurt, organic, of course. Get checked for leaky gut or just put yourself on Perma-vite, 1 Tb. one hr. before meals, for several months. Get off all sweeteners (except stevia and xylitol) for several months, and coffee and tea. Go for natural, low glycemic grains like quineoa (sp?), amaranth, millet, buckwheat for several months, avoiding all flour. Eat a lot of salads, greens, a little low glycemic fruit (pears, grapefruit). Have organic chicken and organic beef added one at a time, and eggs. Try all this for several months and see how you feel. With rheumatoid arthritis, half the cure is EXERCISE (yuk!): walking (I'm blessed to have a beach within walking distance in subtropics, and go barefoot in wet sand), or swimming in 84o minimum water (no chlorine); doing joint exercizes daily--range of motion and strengthening. You will be amazed at the results! Of course, add daily sunshine, good sleep, a house FREE of synthetic furniture, bedding, carpeting, and chemical cleaners. Get a hair analysis for heavy metal poisoning, parasite and bacteria testing, and take lots of high quality probiotics (All Flora by New Chapter is a great one).

Another technical question regarding this website. Why can't I select a portion of the comments and print out just that selection? This is such a good website from a content perspective, but there are some really puzzling aspects to it's operation (maybe a second technical opinion is warranted?).

TBN1412 was tested on six healthy young volunteers in March last year. They all ended up in intensive care with one being called the elephant man because his head doubled in size. Another lost most of his toes. There was a picture in the paper of his feet with black and rotting toes and he had problems with his hands too. It was absolutely revolting. In the event none of them actually died but clearly they suffered and who knows what the long term effects of such diabolical experiments will be. It was a German company, TeGenero who made the drug. Probably they will revamp it somehow and wheel it out again as 'new' and 'improved' when the fuss has died down. I've noticed that Thalidomide is being prescribed again. Those under 60 years old won't remember the appalling results. It was given to pregnant women in the 1960's to help them sleep. Over 800 babies were born with horrendous defects - no arms, just hands connected to the shoulders and no legs, just feet on the bottom of the torso and a multitude of other problems. The USA escaped the tragedy only because one woman, from the FDA I believe and I've forgotten her name now, had the wisdom to be suspicious of some lab results and refused to authorise its use. Perhaps Dr Mercola could look into it and warn people that it's out there doing the rounds again.

While it's unfortunate this person died she did have the choice to participate. Millions and millions of animals who don't, are tortured and abused many times over for totally ridiculous and unnecessary things such as making sure shampoo won't sting your eyes.

Are we not all Genie Pigs, that is, those of us who take the words of the "Alchemists?" I am shocked that more such deaths have not been reported. I am sure more have occured, and we the public have been kept in the dark. My heart goes out to the family of this young woman. Meanwhile I do hope enough of something will be done to prevent such future tragedies.

My cousin is eating "hemp hearts" as suggested by a holistic doctor for her athritis. My Aunt and Uncle also started to eat the hemp hearts and have a great improvement in health .....lost weight, more energy, and no more constipation. The hemp hearts are expensive but from my research, looks like it would be a great benefit to one's health. Has anyone tried "hemp hearts"?

Hmmm. This was 'phase one' of the drug testing. This phase was supposed to determine if the treatment was 'safe.' I'd say, the answer to that would be....NO.

I have been on prednisone, methotrexate, Remicaide, naproxen, salsalate to name just a few drugs used to treat my rheumatoid arthritis. A lot of these suppress the immune system and I ended up with sepsis twice. I didn't know any better. I'd been well indoctrinated considering I'd been in pharmacy for 15 years and an RN for 15 years. A few months ago I was on gabapentin and an NSAID for arthritis and back pain. In April, it was suggested I go back on morphine which I'd gotten off of after 2 years. Instead, I picked up the phone and called a chiropractor I had heard speak. He told me to try fish oil. Well, I'm doing that and no longer take anything else for pain. After a few weeks of using it, I have less pain than in years, and no nasty side effects. These studies should be outlawed.

My sister just called me wanting to know about a new otc drug called Prelief for indigestion. I tried doing research on it but couldn't find too much really about it other than places to order it. I did find that they weren't able to have much of a test group to conduct trials...that sorta raises the red flag in my book. It seems not many people wanted to eat things that are full of acid and get paid for it with only having to take something with c alcium glycerophosphate and magnesium stearate as the main ingredients.

Since there wasn't much consumer testing done I don't know what to think about it. To me it seems there should be a better natural alternative.

I live near NIH and there are ads on the radio all the time asking for volunteers for new, experimental medications and treatments. Scary.
