I wonder about reverse osmosis filters as they waste alot of water. A friend of mine made a self-designed water recycling system for the left over water for the garden. Sounds better than dumping it down the sink; Maybe an option for a property owner.

With water shortages looming and being a renter, I decided to get a table top water filter that has three separate 18" cylinders that fit surprisingly well into a convenient space. Each tower is a specific type of filter including one for Fluoride. This also allows me to customize the filtration including removing Fluoride. The carbon filter, which doesn't last as long in filters, can be replaced more often without unnecessarily throwing out a multi-stage-in one filter. The carbon filter is last to prolong it's life by the previous two filter towers removing specific burdens first. This helps reduce waste and in the long run is cheaper.

Since I store my filtered water about every two weeks, I am concerned about the water sitting exposed to the plastic filter casings inside the stainless steel towers. To reduce the plastic exposure I first run the cold filtered water into all of my plant watering cans and then into square glass and tall thin cylindrical Fido jars. The filter is out of the sun also.

It would be nice to have refillable non-plastic filter casings to reduce plastic exposure and reduce waste. I'd rather pay for a refillable stainless steel/glass filter casing or even mail it in for regeneration.

On the side, is anyone noticing their plants being affected by the added Fluoride? My Pothos and several Rhododendrons started losing leaves until I switched to filtered water.

We noticed that the dogs would drink the water from the stainless steel bowl and ignore the water in the plastic bowl. They obviously didn't like the taste of the "plastic" water. Nowadays we only use stainless steel for their water bowls.

We also just got a water ionizer alkalizer with a biostone filter that has coral calcium and tourmaline in it and we LOVE it. we tested our old water that we thought was good (reverse osmosis uv etc ) and it was completly acidic !!!!!! with this alkaline water our vision is becoming clearer and we have more energy, I would highly recommend one.

I also bought stainless steel water bottles to take with us on the run since glass is not practical for that purpose. I bought them at greenfeet.com. They are called KleenKanteen. The lids are made of hard plastic but you have a choice of a typical pop top sipper or a simple lid you unscrew and remove to drink in which case you could keep your water from flowing through the plastic. These are great not only for our own health but the health of the planet.

Dear Colleague:

The safety of bisphenol A (BPA) has been called into question in recent media coverage. BPA is a chemical found in many hard plastics and used in resins that line food and beverage cans. Although some believe BPA is an ingredient in dental sealants and composites, it isn’t, although there’s some evidence that some dental sealants and to a lesser extent composites may contribute to low-level BPA exposure, probably through the action of salivary enzymes on a minor ingredient. We see no cause for concern at this time but do look forward to the results of a review of a draft report on BPA safety by an independent NIH panel of endocrinologists, statisticians and biologists. The panel evaluated more than 500 scientific studies and was unable to reach a conclusion so the report isn’t expected to be finalized for at least several weeks. The panel has no regulatory authority, and the findings aren’t binding. We’ve posted a press statement about BPA on ADA.org and will continue to keep the profession informed.

I hope it is helpful,

DR. G

Recently we have got bicycle for our sons and attached were "bike bottles". When I took them off, I sniffed them. My husband looked at me like I am nuts. The bottles smelled like petroleum. Bikes were purchased at Walmart, and no wonder bottles were made in China.

I will be writing a letter to the bike company and ask them to make a toxicity test on the bottles and get back to me with the answer. If they don't I'll do it through the EPA in my state and see what the results will be. If they come toxic and they will, I will mail the results back to the company that makes the bikes and ask for the next step......

we'll see then what they will do.

As a suggestion for anyone having a bike that has a bottle holder, get a stainless steel bottle. I found this company that makes "Klean Kanteen" on the internet that claims that their products are toxic free and have test results available online......I called them and waiting for the reply, if they make their Klean Kanteen in the USA or if it's made also in China.

www.sierraropeproducts.com/kleankanteeninfo.html

A year ago I have purchased a "spy kit" a toys for boys. When I opened the package I had to wrap it in three plastic bags and put it outside in the garbage can, the toxic smell was that unbearable!!!!
