I was checked for it about 6 years ago. Before I went on a cpap machine I was waking every 1 to 2 hours through the nite to go to the bathroom. Needless to say it was very hard to stay awake during the day. I would even fall asleep in the middle of a conversation. I once fell asleep while driving. Fortunatly I woke before going completely off the road.

Anyway sleep apnea is very dangerous. The very first night on the cpap machine I slept for a solid 5 hours with out waking for the bathroom and my blood pressure came back down to normal.

The DR. told me the reason for the frequent interuptions to go was because my heart was pumping harder and faster to get oxygen to the blood. With the heart beating faster the blood was also moving through the system faster causing frequent urenation.

That was my condition. I know there is more reasons than just sleep apnea but I would think the heart plays a big roll in this as well.

I had a kidney disease (Mannatech helped me heal from that one!) and also hysterectomy in the past (and two children) and I really hate that I wake up so often--it would be a dream to sleep 6 hours at a clip.

I think the labor did something to my bladder. Kegal exercises cured the incontintence I had for a few months after but never got rid of the other problem. I went thru lots of tests with a specialist and they said nothing was wrong but offered drugs for over active bladder! I refused and just got used to the limitations I have. I also have found that restricting water makes things worse not better! also trying to retrain my bladder by not going to the bathroom only caused me to have bladder infections.Instead I have trained myself to get up and go to bathroom without fully waking up--as long as I stay in the dark I can go right back to sleep. The only problem I have is traveling--being in an unfamilar place I willfeel I need to wake up more to find the bathroom and have a difficult time going back to sleep.

Why is it more consentrated, because you don't drink when trying to get to sleep, unless it is a bit of brandy. So again the answer is not a major riddle but common sense. I always have a bit of sleep trouble once a month hummm, do you think my cycle could be an issue and cause me to urinate more often then? I think it is a safe bet.

So give us real studies, for the real good of people and don't take an obvious side effect of being awake or a bladder control problem and act like it is rocket science.

re: Insomnia Worsened by Increased Nighttime Toilet Visits

I used to get up 2-4 times in the middle of the night to use the restroom. Not only did it mess with my sleep but I would tend to raid the refrigerator as well. I went to a doctor and found out I was slightly anemic and my thyroid was slightly off. Also that I was dehydrated....lol!!! Which was weird because I drank plenty of water. As soon as I started my iron pills and 1/2 grain of natural thyroid the late night bathroom trips subsided. My nightly food raiding slowed down too, but I'm still trying to get a full handle on this as sometimes I don't even remember (kinda like sleep walking). Hopefully this helps some people.

re: Insomnia Worsened by Increased Nighttime Toilet Visits

I had dreadful insomnia as a child due to a serious anxiety disorder/extreme phobias, and often found myself going to the loo several times a night (if I could get up the courage to leave my bed or go into the hall when it was dark... I can still feel the fear!!). I've found it's stopped as I sorted out my issues and brought them under control - the more under control they are, the less I feel the urge to 'go'. There are times when it still happens, but I'm sure that this is more to do with what I've eaten or drunk during the day, for example if I have a glass of coke - doesn't happen often as I really don't like the stuff, but it is a diuretic - I'm more likely to get up and go in the night.

It's interesting, though I do wonder if the link is causal or symptomatic - ie if you're awake you're obviously aware of the need to empty so you will, whereas when you're asleep it isn't likely to wake you up unless you're about to burst or have an infection of some kind.
