Since celiac’s have just as much risk of being obese as being emaciated, I have to wonder to what extent common but unrecognized gluten sensitivity and Celiac Disease factored into the ACS Studies.

First, I remembered that a lot of overweight and ill and arthritic dogs have been found to be on a diet of dog food that is extremely processed, and overcooked, and totally lacking in enzymes, so I decided to increase my consumption of living foods, and reduce the cooked ones. I do not worry about calories so much as type of foods, so I eat raw walnuts, raisins, blueberries, coconut flakes, fresh fruit, melons, watermelon and salad greens daily.

Next, I decided that one of my major triggers to binge eating is food allergies, so I have eliminated processed bread, white flour, sugar, sodas, the deadly nightshade family( potatoes, tomatoes, green peppers, and eggplant)

I also avoid toxins like nitrites, so I have eliminated sliced sandwich meats and ribs.

I have an occasional vietnamese baggette sandwich with raw vegetables, cilantro and chicken spread that is made at a local asian market, but otherwise avoid bread. I also eat occasional home made broth and soups, especially butternut squash soup and egg noodle chicken soup. I have brown and white rice in moderation, but avoid mexican dishes now, since so many use tomato products and green peppers in the recipes.

After three weeks of this, combined with a day on, day off exercise regimen, to keep my arthritis from getting too irritated, I have found that my arthritis has been reducing, my stomach has reduced in size so I have moved two notches on y belt, and I can wear jeans that I have not worn in a year. I can touch my toes again, and I can suck in my gut a few inches, whereas my gut was as taunt as a drum. How much weight I have lost, I cannot say, since I am not going to weigh myself for a few months, but I can say that what I am doing is doing wonders for my psyche, and I like walking again.

It has been labeled "hand to mouth disease" and can be corrected by having your fingers surgically altered so they wont grasp food and the taking of a new drug called stomatix. The new drug will cause your stomach to shrink to 1/4th its origional size and to reject foods that make you obese. Hurry be the forst to get your supply, only $179.95 for a full 30 day supply.

what on earth does that mean? You have to fight viruses not talk fondly to them.

Really, I feel healthy and I am in good health. I'm on no medication whatsoever, my blood stats are perfect, I'm active, and I feel great, my RHR is always between 55 and 60. I never ever get sick, maybe every two or three years I get a cold, but that's it.

So I just continue to live the way I do because I know, despite the extra weight, that I am in good health. Still waiting for someone to help people like me or to figure out what the cause may be. Someone needs to come up with a better solution with just eat less and exercise.

Then I'd like to say that I think the reason why obese people are more likely than thin people to get certain illnesses is not only because of the extra weight, but because they are desperate. Desperation makes people do crazy things. Most overweight people eat a bunch of unhealthy garbage because they think it will help them to lose weight...low fat this and fat free that. Also, they will do anything to lose weight, put anything into their body, any kind of pill from the ones that promise to miraculously help you lose pounds without diet and exercise to the ones that just say they might help suppress the appetite. Thin people don't poison their body in this way, because they are not desperate to lose weight. Personally, I think it is all those diet pills and products that do more harm than the extra weight.

Plus, I don't like when people say...it's easy to lose weight, just eat less and exercise. Like it's that easy. Maybe for some...some people just stop drinking soda or just start walking 1/2 an hour, 3 times a week and they drop pounds like crazy. For others, not the same. I've been struggling with it my whole life. When I was a child, my mom was constantly taking me to doctors to lose weight and they would put me on an 800 calorie a day diet and of course, I would lose weight...and then gain all back, plus some. I think if I was just left alone, I would be thin today. In my house, growing up, all you could find was low or non fat versions of real food...a lot of good that did.

Several years ago, I did my own diet with natural foods and exercise and managed to lose over 100 lbs and I have kept it off since, but still need to lose more. On top of that, I had a baby 4 1/2 months ago and have since gained 20 lbs. I can't seem to lose it no matter what. I live a very healthy life style. I follow the Weston A. Price way of eating, only natural foods....no junk, I never even go out to eat........

If only I had known. A virus! How easy it would be to shift the blame. As a First Sergeant, running a weight loss program in the 3rd Infantry Division, I was responsible for the weight and physical fitness of hundreds of soldiers. There is no excuse!! Not a virus as they would have you believe and certainly not..."It's his genes!!!!" A weight loss program must include two very important items: Proper food intake and (what we all need) exercise! Look at it this way....You have a bucket with a small hole in the bottom (you) and you are pouring water (calories) into it faster than it can run out of the hole (exercise). The bucket begins to weigh more and get very heavy. Get the point? You MUST control the caloric intake versus the exercise which burns the calories. The caloric intake MUST include those foods that are natural for human consumption. That means lightly cooked meat and fish and raw vegetables, NOT highly processed foods. In the 3 years I ran the program, I did not lose any soldier to obesity. Every soldier that entered the program graduated physically fit (within height and weight requirements) for combat duty within six weeks. We started at 4:30 am and finished at 6 am. And, oh by the way, Battalion guidelines called for physical training on Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 6-7 and this is in addition to my training. Soldiers leaving the program had high morale and self esteem. They knew they could perform any duty assigned. You must build your own self esteem by losing the weight you feel is important for you. Forget any virus. Give yourself a chance to be free from being overweight....good diet....good exercise.

So that bout of "pink eye" is to blame for my weight gain!

Not the chocolates, poor food choices or lack of exercise?

I long ago figured that stretch clothing is a cause of weight gain! Think about it .... cotton waistbands don't stretch .... you know instantly if you put on half an inch around the waist!

The other cause (for me at least!) is all those hours sitting in front of a computer instead of being outside getting exercise by gardening, and putting on some energetic music to do the housework!

Eat slightly less, exercise slightly more!!!!

I would also like to add that though of course diet and exercise are of primary importance it is also important to remember that depression can contribute to obesity. Of course, depression can be due to diet and lack of exercise, hormones and other drugs but there are estimates that 1 in 4 and 1 in 7 children will be molested, or raped--sexually abused by the time they are adults. Many people who are abused are anorexic or obese, have drug, sexual or other addictions. Bodywork such as Jin Shin Do Acupressure, can assist in clearing emotional truama that is stored in the body. Just another suggestion to help those who are struggling with health issues. Well I was going to comment on some of the other topics but there is a raging thunderstorm going on right n ow so I am going to turn off my computer and ---read a book!

re: A Common Virus May Contribute to Obesity

I saw a study (on this site?) on Amish people who were living a more traditional lifestyle(farming) vs those who have started working outside the home(factory/construction for men and stores/restaurants for women are common). The results were that less than 1% of those living traditionally were over weight and those who worked outside thus also eating more processed food and not working as hard physically had obesity rates like the rest of the country. So the conclusion is that there may be a very small number of people who have an actual medical condition(genetic, viral etc) contributing to their weight problems.

re: A Common Virus May Contribute to Obesity

My wife didn't start to gain weight until her doc started her on synthetic hormones.
