Oh come on, Dr Mercola, you are usually so smart! Gardisil is for HPV (more commonly known as genital warts) not for cancer. It just so happens that having genital warts is associated with an increased risk of cervical cancer. The reason for vaccinating boys is so they won't give the warts to girls. I'm afraid boys DO have the body parts for genital warts! They have genitals right? Actually, my biggest problem with Gardisil is the deceptive marketing, using the "C" word to scare people. If you told parents they where getting their children vaccinated for an STD they would never go for it. I don't get it. When I was in school, they taught us about STDs in health class. I can't believe ever other adult in the country has forgotten everything they learned. If you ask me, the reason our government is pushing the vaccine, is so they can quietly wipe out genital warts. They don't really care about side effects. The benifit to the tribe outweighs the health of the individuals.

Funny, I was told by my gynecologist at my yearly appointment last year that Gardisil was definitely not for me and that it's benefits were narrow in scope. I commented on how I gathered my sons around the television way back when they ran commercials that didn't mention what the commercial was even about but it was pure scare tactics. I told them, you watch, this commercial is generating fear and soon we'll find out what we should be afraid of and what miraculous answer they have that everyone simply must get to be safe! Sure enough, within a couple of months of the scare tactics, ta da! Gardisil was unveiled to a massive sigh of relief amongst women everywhere. Terrify us and then save us. Oh, please.

Astonishingly, this year at my exam, my gyne (female) that my SONS should get the Gardisil vaccine because of the increase in oral and anal sex going on and that they were going to promote it for GAY MEN. I looked at her in utter disbelief. I asked, "But what about the deaths of teenage girls after getting it?" "What? I've never heard such a statistic. Not true. Really, you should consider it for your sons." I couldn't speak after that. I won't be going back to here any more, that's for certain!

Just a comment about boys being vaccinated for cervical cancer.

I have to admit my bias..........y son was autistic so I am (now) totally anti-vaccines-having researched them for over 4 years.I won't even let my dog be vaccinated.

Having said that,and believing that Gardasil is almost completely unecessary as it does NOT protect against all cervical cancers (or indeed, not necessarily against any, as these strains of herpes are coincidental to cervical cancer and ,as yet, not proven to be CAUSAL), women must still take yearly Pap Tests to be safe-thereby rendering Gardasil a waste of time and a potential serious risk to health.

However, IF girls do have the vaccine, then boys MUST be vacinated too-precisely because they form a "reservoir of reinfection"!Under the "logic" governing vaccination the seemingly absurd becomes plausible. Dr Ralph Moss, the cancer expert, wrote about this in his in depth report on Gardasil.

The fact that boys will be exposed to the same dangers as girls by this mostly untested vaccine is just another reason to not expose ANY child to it.

To Vicki Marie and everyone else, if your doctor keeps harping on you to get a vaccine for yourself or your children that you do not want, STOP SEEING THAT DOCTOR and tell him or her your reason for finding a new physician. As long as you keep going back to that doctor they will continue to harass you until you give in.

what a bunch of total loonies you lot are. jumping to the most ridiculous conclusions and stirring yourselves up with all the hype. i can see you all going out and enjoying a good lynching!!!

how can you hope to eradicate an infectious disease if you don't treat or vaccinate both sexes?! would you only give rubella vaccine to girls as it can affect pregnancy? of course not. you need to vaccinate enough of the general population to loose an infective agents hold and hope to get rid or at least reduce it.

throat cancer is the least of worries for men, it is rare. but they can carry the HPV and still spread it. oh and by the way, it also causes penile and anal carcinomas AIN that could be prevented with the vaccine.

i don't think i have ever read a more crack-pot website with more rubbish written here than anywhere else i have seen. and the sort of comments it receives doest suprise me either -birds of a feather all flock together.....

why don't you guys turn your anger into something useful and try doing some good in the world?

I had HPV when I was younger. I was told that this can be a precursor to cervical cancer, so it needed to be taken care of. The treatment was cervical freezing which was an outpatient procedure where the cervix is frozen and the top layer of cells slough off. I was cured! The only pain of the procecure was similar to typical period cramping and a pap smear exam. I have had completely normal paps over the last 20 years. In my opinion this was a much safer treatment than a vaccine. Giving it to boys, ludicrous!

OTher articles over the world have supported/reported vaccinating boys to protect girls/

I am personally against most vaccinations- (and i would like to hear from others are against most- but NOT all.. why). Particully due to the mercury contaimination etc... however.. i was really excited about this vaccination ....

I am from Australia where it was developed. and we have heard of mUch research done on it. Further phama is not making too much money here ( in australia) as the government is paying for everyone to get it. Ie its effectivly free. And by the way there is no need to force anyone to get it here,,,, people are lining up for it. (a 70% reduction in cervical cancer risk seems like a great deal to most....)

On that though. I am totally against forced injections, there has just been a few cases here in the soulth of aus where health prosseionals ( eg nurses) are being forced to get üp to date injections or loose their jobs!!!!

Does that happen in the states? of other countries?? Our government ministers assure us it does!

Government wants to make it mandatory for these girls to get the vaccine to possibly prevent some deaths from cancer.....yet they allow the sale of cigarettes and McDonalds..... stopping the sales of just these two things would prevent an unimaginably large number of cancer deaths.

Homeopaths group diseases into 2 main categories: acute illnesses and chronic disease (miasm).

Chronic disease is attained in the following ways:

1) Hereditary i.e. you are born with it, from your parents

2) Chronic stress or emotional upset

3) Sexually, i.e You can contract a chronic predisposition to disease, or miasm, from your sexual partner. (Always a good idea to know what their health is like). Homeopaths believe that many of the STD's, including genital warts are a carrier for these miasms, even if symptoms do not appear right away.

Again why I recommend homeopathic miasmatic treatment.

In homeopathy, Genital warts is actually indicative of a miasm in itself, the sycotic miasm. ( Note this is very different from what psychologists refer to as psychosis, spelled "psy") The sycotic miasm is actually the most common of the chronic diseases, the most insidious, and also the most difficult to treat.

Even if a patient's genital warts have been removed, sycosis is usually still present and homeopath believe that this can lead to a myriad of health problems down the line. Thus I recommend homeopathic miasmatic treatment for anyone who has had HPV or genital warts. So it creates health problems, even in men without cervices. Again vaccination is not the answer, however HPV should not just be ignored while you hope your immune system won't weaken.

Whenever I'm work with a patient, I am not only looking to treat the current complaint, but over the years, I am constantly assessing and treating their chronic miasm. As homeopaths, there are clues to as to what diseases each person is susceptible to. As long as there are no evident medical signs, I do not believe in telling patients what diseases they are susceptible to for the following reasons, firstly it is merely a probability and secondly, if a doctor tells their patient that they are going to contract a given disease, just by them saying that, the chances are that they will get that disease. A patient of mine went along to a health fair and someone (who was not a doctor, but was using one of those energy machines) told them that their otherwise perfectly healthy 7 year old little boy was going to get cancer. Ever since then the whole family was in a state of worry and turmoil. I believe that that person did this family a great dis-service and his behavior was completely unprofessional. (We are very quick to point out the negligence and unprofessional conduct of our doctors, however I am sad to say that I have seen just as much, if not more in the alternative medicine industry.)

I recently had a young male patient with genital warts who had been to three different doctors, two of them dermatologists who had told him his lesions were simply skin tags and he had nothing to worry about. So this young man went about unknowingly infecting all his partners. When he came to see me I sent him to a fourth dermatologist who again said it was nothing. I instructed him to have the lesion biopsied and sure enough it was a genital wart. Not only did the dermatologist give him no further councelling, or any explanation about HPV, how to prevent spread, or anything, he sent him on his way and told him he was good to go, even though he failed to inspect the rest of the penis, leaving numerous other genital warts behind. By the way, a simple way to detect genital warts that are too small to be visible with the naked eye is to cover the affected area with vinegar and the warts will show up white. The dermatologist also told the patient that it was not necessary to do the test which would determine whether the strain of HPV he had caused cervical cancer or not. I guess the doctor didn't think it was necessary for the patient top know whether or not his strain of HPV could give his partner cervical cancer.

It is my belief that there are only 3 ways to get cancer:

1) STRESS TO THE TISSUE: caused by chronic inflammation from either a virus (or other pathogen); toxicity or a physical injury.

2) EMOTIONAL STRESS

3) PREDISPOSITION (not just genetic predisposition, but also personality make-up, body-type, etc... in homeopathy we call this the MIASM)

Am I the only one who finds this article skewed? The journalist mocks that since men do not have cervixes, the reason that the medical establishment must be recommending the Gardasil vaccination to men is to protect them against oral cancer if they have oral sex with an infected woman. He also claims that it is only women with compromised immune systems that are at a risk for developing cervical cancer.

While I agree that it is necessary to criticize the medical community where it is warranted, it is clear that this journalist has not done his research.

Gardasil's proposed uses is not just as a preventative against cervical cancer, but rather against the virus that is proposed to be the number # 1 cause of cervical cancer, Human Papilloma Virus, or HPV, which also happens to cause genital warts, which can be very emotionally scarring for men, in addition to a number of other health problems. As a homeopathic practitioner, I am well aware that vaccinations are not the answer. What I am not in favor of however, from some of the comments I have read above, is the attitude that just because men don't have cervixes, they don't need to worry about HPV. Or that if you ensure that you have a strong immune system you don't need to worry about the fact that you are a carrier and may infect others who's immune systems are not as strong. What I do like about the medical establishment's thinking is how important it is to protect and treat both partners (men and women).

I have found high doses of folic acid together with constitutional homeopathic treatment and or the homeopathic remedy Thuya occidentalis to be extremely helpful for treating HPV.
