However, according to this article, you may be in for more than you bargained for if you make the move. It is a haven for companies like Halliburton, who can move their and become immune from Federal taxes. Meanwhile, it, along with Doha, Qatar, are becoming real getaways for the elite. It is a revolving door for people like Donald Rumsfeld who now has a posh position with Halliburton. Does this not smack of oil? Next, we have lots of contracting firms who are engaged in "nation building" which George Washington pointedly discouraged. Of course, they need to be closer to the action. Ridiculously, the excitement of Doha and Dubai include absurd attractions like ski hills with artifically made snow. Can you imagine the cost of this? This can only be what a fascist regime would support, by looting the people's money through the "voluntary" tax we pay as a result of an illegally passed 16 amendment.

Anyway. It is decent to reach out to middle-easterners in fellowship and honesty. But when extorters and ulterior motives are behind the deals, don't support it. Only bad karma can result.

This country, its people, its culture, its sense of identity, its moral and ethical standards have been in steady freefall for at least the last 30 years plus, probably longer. History teaches us that all empires eventually collapse, but lets face reality here. The great foundations that this country was built upon started to buckle some time ago with little or no corrective action.Hence the fall of the U.S is not in the too distant future.

However, Dubai is not for everyone and many Americans will have a difficult time adjusting to the culture and strict laws. It is all about attitude and what experiences you want in your life--for some people I knew in Dubai, living there was heaven, but there were a few (very few) who sounded very much like the author of this article--and they were miserable.

Some of the author's complaints were valid (getting a liscense for alcohol, etc), but if you are going to move to a foreign country (such as Dubai) one should only do so if they want to gain knowledge and experience of living in that country with an understanding that the culture, laws and attitudes are very different from the U.S.

I didn't mind the little inconveniences like getting a liquor license--I knew Dubai was a moslem country and alcohol was not acceptable, and the dress of the locals was what made Dubai so fascinating.

Dubai has grown and changed a great deal from the early 80s, it has modernised tremendously and there is so much more now than when I was there. I would love to go back. My husband and I and our three children still look back on our experience there with fond and wonderful memories.

Read the article more carefully! It certainly does reflect a Muslim attitude and treatment of the people that live in Dubai and the people (servants) they import for cheap labor. How can anyone reading that article not come away with that obvious conclusion? Controlling what is viewed on the internet? The TV? Asking your employer's permission for anything outside of work? Having to cover up with layers of clothing in >100 deg F because the state run religion deems it offensive to see the female face or form in public? Here's a clue.... there is nothing offensive about the female face or body it is the most beautiful work of art in nature. What's offensive is the Muslim view of the world and it's leader's desires to impose those ridiculous views on the rest of the world by any and all means including cowardly mass murder of civilians.

Queen Mab if you don't want to live in the US then don't. We here in the US have a difficult time as it is trying to cope with all the people around the world who do anything and everything they can to get here legally or illegally. If you are currently living here your just taking up a very valuable and highly sought after seat. Move it! On your way to Cuba or a Muslim run government of your choice. As a female you will love the treatment. LOL.

I lived in Europe for 3 yrs. Lots of history, SOME of the people were nice, some nice places to visit but I couldn't wait to get back to the USA. Europeans should seriously consider starting a "take a bath every day" campaign, especially in the summer. If you've been there you KNOW full well what I mean. As for Europeans calling Americans children well, ok, but they really should be calling us Daddy for saving their butts from having to wear swastikas and those silly looking bloomer pants while high stepping through town.
