Problem is due to the other chemicals in the toothpaste along with some out there that have contracted an alergy to certian fake sugars they put in about 99% of chewing gum today. I wouldnt suggest it. As for toothpaste with xylitol then maybe they are still good but not the gum. I went years with migraines, stomuch pains, and more after chewing gum which was a heavy past time. I never swallowed the gum but I did swallow the minty/cinnaminy juices. It was all about the gum, until I had problems with diet pop that had the same fake sugar that lead me to do research on the chemicals. Aspartame was the main bad fake sugar chemical you can come by in diet pops, and sugarless gums. Then I find out that ones that are sensitive to these things are normally sensitive to others like MSG "monosoduim Glutamate they aint linked completely together. But their affects are quite the same. MSg is known to cause strokes, heart attacks, migraines, seziures. Thats just to list a few, issue is MSG comes in so many different forms with different long names, even can be in "spices". Funny I didnt know this til I became sensitive to other things. I love research and I love telling what I found out, even if others like me dont really wanna know. *laughs

For years Ive known flouride to be bad. Someone is shocked by saccrides type of sugar in strawberrys. These sugars in strawberrys the saccrides aint like the sugar you thinking of. This is all natural sugar that doesnt boost up a diabetic let alone cause bacteria nor sugar that attacks teeth. Dont be fooled by the word sugars, the sugar you get in a store is the type that can cause a sugar high, a sugar imbalance. Hydrogen Peroxide isnt good for anything that you want to keep healthy. The word hydrogen and hydrogenated based chemicals would bring up scarey scientific studies that would scare anyone into the looney bin. The findings are scarey and best of all it's in alot of things we eat and use daily. Before you poo poo strawberries I challenge you to look up every ingediant in your toothpaste. Even ones saying they are all natural, what a laugh when you find out the truth. Ive had lots of dental issue over the years, tons of soft spots *sensitive spots on my teeth, due to using FDA approved toothpaste that I cant even stomuch looking at between my screaming yellow degrading teeth to my screaming receeding blooding gums. Id welcome a change, and challenge myself to this new finding and hope one day my teeth will look great from strawberrys and baking soda *used that a couple of months and found a better outcome than these store bought tubes from *ell.

I stopped using regular toothpastes long ago, initially because of the fluoride issue and because I didn't want to put anything in my mouth that had to carry a mandated poison warning label with a1-800 number to call in case I or a child ingested it. If they wanted kids not to eat it, why do they make it so sweet and minty that a toddler couldn't resist swallowing it? Why make it so tempting to eat? Also, the oral tissues are very absorbent. That is why some supplements and medicines are made to be placed or dissolved under the tongue.

I read recently the book, GOOD TEETH BIRTH TO DEATH, by Dr. Gerald F. Judd in which he says that tooth enamel gets calcium deposited on it from the siliva and that the glycerine in toothpastes coats the teeth and places a barrier between the enamel and the saliva, thus preventing remineralization, and that the teeth should be brushed using bar soap so that they are truly clean. It made sense to me but I still liked the idea that the Spry xylitol toothpaste, which also contains glycerine, made the teeth slippery and was very anti-cavity. I decided to solve the delimma by making a mixture of fine celtic sea salt and baking soda, to which I had added some Dr. Bronner's castille bar soap (which I had powdered in a blender). I brush with that at night and use Spry in the morning. My teeth and gums are great and I haven't had a cavity in ages.

The basic principles from Dr. Judd's book can be found at 100777.com/.../teethcare and the book can be purchased fron many places on the web. Just Google the title.

A follow-up to your message - and again to what KAC said. First, it's quite possible that two dentists might disagree on what is decay and what is not. Even through the use of all the most modern diagnostic tools available.

What I propose happened with your child is, the decay (if actually present in the first place) became "incipient". Meaning it stopped, or went into remission, if you will.

And I would guess that the xylitol played a large part in that happening. Like I said in my earlier post (and Dr. Mercola has covered extensively), the xylitol makes surfaces slippery, which makes it almost impossible for the nasty bacteria to colonize.

No colonization, no active disease process. Thus, your son's tooth was probably made inhospitable for the bacteria causing the decay, thus causing them to lose their foothold and therefore halt the disease process. After which, the minerals in his saliva helped to remineralize the enamel.

Obviously, only in the smallest of cavities can remineralization make any sort of impact. And it's only a micron or two of change that remineralization might be able to cause - not complete cavity filling. Not even a matter of millimeters - since your enamel is several millimeters thick - but only a micron or so. There will still be a cavity, no matter what. But it IS much easier to halt decay in the enamel than in the dentin, since enamel is essentially non-porous (therefore easier to make slippery).

As I said earlier, once the breach has hit the porous dentin below the enamel, all bets are off. And while the decay may be stopped, the damage CANNOT be naturally repaired - no matter how much xylitol is consumed.

Maybe it's semantics, but KAC's statement that xylitol "eliminates decay", should probably be restated to say it "halts decay". Because, to me, the decay (i.e. damage) is still there - whether part of an active process or not. And xylitol CAN NOT repair or eliminate the decay in teeth.

Be well,

We had NO Colds or Flu for the first time ever last year. We inhale the mist thru the MOUTH with a Nasal sprayer. No cough develops but it will flood you with energy. Cancer patients have cured some cancers but inhale 16 to 20 sprays every 2 hours.

Search 'Bill Munro Hydrogen Peroxide Cancer' in google for a great story. I have personally spoke with him and was impressed with his knowledge of H2O2 (hydrogen Peroxide). BTW, my grandmother has rinsed her mouth with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide for years and has beautiful teeth. She swishes it around for 5 minutes.

I don't know what you were reading, but Xylitol can't "eliminate" tooth decay. Only manual excavation of the dentin - which is a network of microscopic tubules - can truly remove the bacteria that causes the decay, as well as the dead dentinal tissue.

What zylitol can and does do, is make body tissues "slippery", making it difficult for pathogens to get a foothold and set up shop, so to speak. Those tissues include mucosa (oral, ear, whatever) as well as tooth enamel.

As for the effectiveness of malic acid in strawberries, I'm sure that it would have some effect. But if I were to use it I'd apply the strawberry pulp to my teeth, work it in a bit, let it sit on there for a few minutes, and THEN use baking soda or a non-fluoride toothpaste to wash it all off.

I don't believe the acid or sugar concentration will be in any way harmful if used like that and if applied infrequently. Many of the foods we eat are far more sugary and acidic than strawberries.

There are two types of stains on teeth: Intrinsic (inside the tooth) - like the yellow tint they take on when a doctor prescribed tetracycline to a child; and Exogenous - which is the coloration taken on by teeth through micro-fissures, or cracks in the enamel. Coffee, tea, sodas, etc. are such coloring agents. If exogenous stains are not removed within a reasonable amount of time, the stains become intrinsic and are difficult or impossible to remove without some serious dental intervention.

As for using a water pik, I don't believe you'll get any significant benefit from it UNLESS you have some significant periodiontal pockets OR furcation involvement (exposed roots) in your molar teeth. Because all a water pik does is flush out food debris. It DOESN'T remove the sticky film of plaque that coats every surface in your mouth - unless you're running it at 100 PSI!

Instead, go with the best oral hygiene device on the market for many years now - Sonic Care. Accept no cheap imitations!

As a side note, the xylitol nasal spray has eliminated the need for my kids to have ear tubes due to eustachian tube dysfunction. This is interesting. I presented the xylitol studies to the ear doctor and he discounted it because it was published in the British Medical Journal (outside of the US). He prescribed a steriod nose spray for my kids and said he uses this spray for his own kids. I have been using the xylitol nasal spray for 2 months on my kids. About 1 1/2 months ago (after the ear tubes fell out), a visit to the ear dr showed one ear was healed but the other ear still has fluid in the ear tube with a retracted eardrum. The doc said in front of my son "I doubt that this ear will heal" due to his past history. I continued to use the xylitol nasal spray along with vitamins with choline, inositol and magnesium and a homeopathic remedy called "wellness earache". We went back to the ear doctor this past week and both ears were healed except the left eardrum was a little retracted. This is the first time my 7 year old ears have been fluid-free without ear tubes!! I finally found my answer after 10 years of searching. My 11 year old has had 5-6 sets of ear tubes until this year also. In the past I have tried no dairy (and other known allergy foods), chiropractic services, other manipulation, etc.

Sorry to get off the subject with the ear issue, but just wanted to indicate the effective of xylitol. It seems no one on this site is familiar with it and has ever commented on it in the past. If you have any sinus, ear or tooth problems, it is worth investigating. There are absolutely no side effects!
