1. I decided to never let any decision of life and death be made without giving myself time to think and reason it out.

Most of my suicidal impulses were linked to a "Do it Now." mindset, and I found that usually if I just delayed and procrastinated doing anything, I usually broke out of the depression, and could think of a solution to my problem that did not require suicide.

2. I never trusted my instincts about a problem or situation when I was depressed, but I got as much input from as many other people around me as a reality check.

Typically, when I was in a suicidal mindset, I only listed to the critical "inner voices" in my head, or to the person who I was in conflict with, such as an angry parent or sibling, who were not objective in what they thought either. Isolated thinking is usually going to be bad thinking.

3, I remembered the lesson of the Frank Capra movie, It's a Wonderful Life."

The suicidal main character finds reason to live and escape his death mindset, not by worrying about the problems he had, or listening to his enemy, Mr. Potter, but by looking at the impact he had on the friends and family through his life, and the value it gave his life. Once the character could get outside his own depressed and isolated head, he found the answer in his family and friends.

4. I find solace in the little joys and victories in life.

When I feel hopeless and out of control, I find that paying attention to the small pleasures in life and successes in life, that come from paying attention to your life, would break the hardest funk.

5. I use "power sleeping. In most of the heaviest depressions I ever had, insomnia seemed to always be a factor, and forceing myself to get at least a 10 to 12 hour sleep on the weekend would often help.

Many girls are not only using this as birth control but many girls are being given the pill for PMS, difficult periods, or even(really scary) just to control when they have their periods. If you are one of those who don't believe in teaching about sex to kids you are doing a big disservice to your children. I did not want my girls to go and get the pill so I made it a point to talk to them about other options if they did choose to be sexually active, while of course encouraging them to wait until they were adults and in a committed relationship. Natural Family planning, condoms and diaphragm combined is the safest for them. As for menstrual cycle problems there are of course much safer methods --diet, excercise, herbs, bodywork etc.

I do not agree to presenting this as "poisoning" their minds, however. One has the freedom to deal with one's life as one chooses. One should not look upon suicide as evil simply because everyone else thinks so. Viewing life as good and beneficial is simply a state of mind, a philosophy, and viewing life as bad is just the same. If you view the result of either philosophy as good or bad, that is simply your own philosophy. Expanding on the freedom to deal with one's life as one chooses, he/she should be presented with an overview of all the opinions, not just the popular ones.

I can definitely agree with the added Anti-Depressant/ADD medication being given out like candy. However, one also has to look at our entertainment industry and the food supply connection. With the (conventional) food supply's new goal of making us all obese and sick and the entertainment industry telling girls to look amazing by being thin, well, in today's teen world, that in itself leads to suicides.

As far as the school system argument goes, coming from the perspective of someone who is currently in it everyday, it is without a doubt outdated. To pass Health Class all I really had to do was turn around everything that was true and I am rewarded with A's on every test.

GMOs and mood-altering drugs---the majority of which are F base), is it any wonder the U.S. suicide rate is highest among adolescents, especially females---who, thanx (?) to F base hormones (the Pill, et al), begin the legal "drugging" of themselves with this bio-accumulaltive toxin earlier than males. In the 60 years of water fluoridation (which hasn't rid us of tooth decay) adults have gotten fatter and sicker and their children present now with myriad behavior problems (including crime and drug abuse), learning disabilities, low IQ and a high suicide rate. Stop fluoridating

In all the thankfully few cases I have known, this has been the case. For example, my friend's infant brother was hospitalized for 2 months with an accidental burn injury. At the time, in the interest of sanitation, parent visits were not permitted. The boy later killed himself although his life was going well at the time.

Joseph Chilton Pierce's research and books, such as Evolution's End, give good insight into the effect of environment on children's brain development and ensuing lives.

My take is to encourage and help people take the time to enjoy and be kind to their children. They need just a few years of concentrated love to flourish, and with life expectancy reaching to 3 digits, it seems parents would have plenty of time to do everything else they'd like. For those in abusive situations who are managing to break the cycle, you are heroes, and your legacy going forward long term is huge - you can look at genealogy tables to see the unbelievable number of people we end up being related to. Good luck in the journey!

A girl today can have all the sex she wants, and if she gets pregnant she can abort that baby. Before 1970 women all most never went into DEBT, then they started to buy cars, in order to buy that car she had to abandoned her children and get a full time job.All young girls are taught , they should have a brand new car, witch means going into DEBT, never be a mother , be fulfill with a job. No wonder girls are commiting suicide. DEBT= bonage Fredh

We no longer allow our children to truly grow up. We coddle them give in to them, rather than set limits. Limits which must be set very early in a child's life. Teach them the value of money, which must be earned, and not given. No such thing as keeping up with the Jones, without a contribution from those trying to keep up. These are values we no longer teach. When was the last time a young person knocked on your door asking to jcut your grass, or shovel snow from your walk as a means of earning money?

By no means are these all the reasons for suicide stats, but I have the conviction the afore mentioned reasons contribute.
