The problem with that is that MLM is a business scam! Why would a company that is so conscientious about selling good products opt for that business model? I went round and round with them about it, and they're adamant. They won't just sell wholesale to people, and the one product I got from them is badly overpriced. I bought enough to last me awhile, and I won't do business with them anymore. The other thing to keep in mind is that if they're using the MLM model, they will probably be put out of business, either by their shoddy business practices, or by the government. People who participate in MLM lose their shirts unless they are taking advantage of a lot of people who lose THEIR shirts. We have a family member who has been burned so many times it's not funny. Hopefully he has finally learned his lesson. We should collectively pressure Amazon to change their business practices. Seriously. If you are willing to work on this, please email Dr. Mercola, because I think he recommends their products, and if he got on their case, they might do something. I have found many interesting things to think about from your posts. Some of them are a bit to radical for me.

I have been on a campaign for a few years to change the way my family eats. I have bought healthy pans to cook on, I make most everything we eat from scratch. From Spagetti sauce, to chili, to taco seasoning mix to bread. I use the best ingredients I can find. I researched online recipes to make our favorite foods from healthy ingredients. I buy organic as much as I can.

We live in Washington state so raw milk is no issue for us. The local health food store carries it. There are many ranches that sell fresh grass fed beef. One even has pork.

If we come up with an illness, I research how to treat it naturally. In fact, we just shared a nasty cough with friends and family. I read how you can drink warm water with 1/2 baking soda to treat it. Guess what, it worked for all six of us. Can't say how it helped but it did the trick.

I clean the house with baking soda and vinegar only. We don't use deodorant, just good ole soap and water. My teen sons acne got real bad. I researched a treatment for that. Guess what...baking soda treats that as well. His face is getting much clearer each day. It is amazing how effective baking soda is for acne.

The reason I am commenting on this article is I was so upset when I read the label on my hershey "chocolate" syrup bottle. It says, genuine chocolate FLAVOR! UGH! The first ingredient is high fructose corn sryup!(Remember I said I am working on making changes in our life. I do have a few issues left to weed out.)

So, online I went to find a way to make real chocolate sryup. I now make my morning mocha with raw milk, organic coffee and true chocolate sryup. Boy it is good!

re: Chocolate Lovers Rejoice: Mars Won't Budge

Uncle Russ,

You have hit the nail on the head with the "certified organic" issue. First, to clarify, nothing can be legally labeled as made in the US unless it is manufactured in the US, or the components that are foreign made are assembled into a finished product that can the be considered "made in the US." (There are specific rules for this stated in US Customs regulations.) Since all organic certifiers are 3rd party, (some of them not even in the same country as the products distributors.) They only certify based on information given to them by the party asking for the certification. That in itself is somewhat disturbing. Even more so is the fact that the importer of the ingredients probably isn't being given accurate information about the ingredients either. We're all operating on blind faith. How much do you want to bet that the ingredients in your "organic" multivitimin are sourced from China, made into the finished product in the US, and certified organic by a 3rd party? Call the manufacturer, and the answer you'll get is "We're an international company, and we source from all over the world. We can't keep track of all of our sources." And they don't have to. My bet is that the source is China. We need as strict of labeling laws for food as we have for wearing apparel. A shirt can't kill us, but a bad batch of Vitamin C can.

What ARE you handing out to the kiddies on Oct 31, assuming you even have anything to do with this event? Trader Joe's has large bags of small bags of roasted, unsalted almonds. That's fairly spendy, but is a consideration. My favorite "sweets" now include these amazing organic gala apples we've been able to get here in Washington State. My goodness. But I doubt that Mom and Dad will allow Junior to eat an apple gathered from a stranger on Oct 31 night. Maybe I should be shopping for small games and puzzles, and forget the "treats"? Also, Dr. John Gray has a really delicious cookie recipe using coconut oil, nuts, and a whey protein shake powder.

I have always loved milk chocolate in just about any form-bars, nuggets, chips, kisses you name it I love it. Recently (about 7 months ago) I noticed I would eat a bar (or kiss, nugget etc) and not feel well. REALLY not feel well. Twice I fainted while sitting at the computer! I started to read the ingredients on the labels. Lots of things with letters, like PGPR, or TBHQ, or some such junk. I slowly stopped buying the poison in plastic and started eating the Endangered Species bars, and more semi sweet almost bitter stuff that is more organic. It has taken me 7 months to break a 30 plus year habit. I am not completely junk/sugar free but about 90 percent. I have been a vegetarian for 25 years and I have always serious junk (Doritos, fries, donuts) for about 8 years, but chocolate was the last culprit. I am on my way!

It had about 10 different types of "sugar" in it (HFCS, Brown Rice syrup, molasses syrup etc). Then at the store when I see the big display of candy death, I just flip it over and see how they all have those weird abbreviated preservatives, TBHQ and BHT. If it's too big to put the real name on it, then it's nothing my body needs.

Women don't even realize what they are doing to themselves with their monthly chocolate frenzy. I think they know it's bad to have chocolate but they don't realize that it's not just chocolate. You are getting a candy bar full of despair wrapped in a pretty shiny wrapper.

In Australia Mars and other major confectioners appear to have replaced all the cocoa mass in their chocolate with vegetable oil... some of the time.

It's very confusing because they aren't very consistent in this. I have to check each and every bar to see if it has cocoa mass or vegetable oil in it. Mostly I now simply boycott their products and have switched to the more expensive but tastier specialty chocolates. At least then you consistently get cocoa mass, a low heating temperatures and no additive surprises.

:-)
