I was able to conceive and had my daughter, after many years of infertility, at the age of 41. I had so many problems doctors told me that I would never conceive. I used natural hormone therapy and received intravenous vitamin therapy for 2 year to solve multiple problems and it did the trick!

Thank you Dr. Mercola your advise has been invaluable.

I live in Japan. Men take hot baths every night and have for hundreds of years. I know many many men who sit in a hot bath tub every night and have several children. I certainly wouldn't recommend sitting in a hot tub as a form of birth control. I know the birth rate is low in Japan but it isn't because people aren't able to have children. Lots of women are just not wanting to have children. And if anything, people take fewer baths now than they used to when the birth rate is higher. the number of people who shower instead of bathing is higher than ever.

I was told by my OB/GYN that hot tubs did not effect my husband's fertility. Finally, after all of my fertility tests came back "normal", my husband received a diagnosis of grade 3/4 bilateral varicoceles from a male infertility specialist (urologist). (Varicoceles are varicose veins that form in the testicle area that cause things to heat up and damage the sperm.)

Needless to say, I switched to a different doctor. The urologist whom my DH saw initially had won national awards withing urology, but in the area of kidney stone surgery. He knew very little about male factor infertility. It is important that a man get a correct diagnosis from a urologist who specializes in male factor infertility. (Then, he can choose a traditional versus alternative medicine route in dealing with the diagnosis.)

My DH and I ended up at a traditional fertility clinic. The RE there recommended that he ice his private area after his morning run since the area would have increased blood flow from exercise. We did end up going the IVF route after trying some alternative techniques (NST) mainly b/c of my age. (I was 39 when I gave birth.) The meds were hard on my body, but we now have a beautiful little one-year old boy.

Very little is known, even by mainstream OB/GYNs and urologists, about male factor infertility. It is the main cause of infertility in 30% of couples unable to conceive, and a contributing factor in 50% of all cases. (In the other 20%, there is also a female factor involved.)

NEWSFLASH: THIS IS NOT NEWS, except perhaps to the current generation. Back in the day (pre-Roe v. Wade), this was indeed suggested as one pretty reliable way to NOT get her preggo, especially since hormone manipulation was known to have its many downsides even way back then, in what the Leftists call the "Dark Ages" (before baby-killing was legalized to reduce the size of the Welfare State). AND this fact, that higher testicular temps (as in normal 98.6 body temp., which is why they 'descend' starting at puberty, to keep from killing the sperm they produce, and drop further when warmer, retracting when chilled) need to be avoided when actually trying to conceive.

This falls under the category of, "Gee, I thought everyone knew that." Same book, new author.

Duh! The reason the testicles are outside the body, the lower temprature enable the survival of sperm, and to raise said temprature will kill the sperm.

We don't need any more kids. I tell all the men to spend six or seven hours in a hot tub daily just so we don't get overpopulated even more. And if you want to have kids, stop at one. Think of the repercussions. Don't be selfish. I'm not even that concerned if nobody has kids and the human race goes extinct. Look at all the damage we've caused. I gotta go buy a hot tub now. Consume, consume, consume. Depleting natural resources all in the name of "progress." What we need is a negative population growth. Give me some of that.

Chlorine and Bromine! In almost every hot tub in North America that isn't a natural spring (and even some of those it's added) you'll find toxic chemicals which are purported to 'protect' us from harmful microorganisms and bacteria that thrive in hot water. And if it's just a bath you still get tons of chlorine from the tap water. The pores open in the heat and the body uptakes all these poisons very easily. I would be willing to bet this is a major contributor to lowered sperm count in these cases. Science is so myopic sometimes. This seems like a much more obvious cause of lowered sperm count than simply the hot water - although that may also be a factor. These chemicals are probably much more dangerous than the stuff they are supposed to be protecting us against.

I never used hot tubs, often go commando, always took a lot of C and zinc, and got my wife pregnant 4 out of about 6 attempts without birth control. Once might have been by sneezing on her, I'm not sure. We made some pretty good kids too!

Just wanted to comment on cell phone usage and lowered sperm counts. Cell phones are very dangerous for men because they wear them on their hip. Most cell phones radiate 8 to 10 inches. Jockey shorts and tight fitting jeans will do the same thing as sitting in a hot tub. Also, don't forget that you are probably soaking in a chlorine pool as well unless you have a filter to remove it.

It makes sense since sperm tend to like cooler temperatures. But 30 minutes a week can make a man infertile for 3-6 months. That is a long time for a few minutes of "pleasure"

Personally I have always disliked the Hot Tub experience. .. It always felt like it weakened my body. ..... (It never felt good in a dry sauna either), ...On the other hand I have always felt strengthened and renewed by a good steam bath followed by an ice cold shower or dip. .......... Sweating via the likes of a wet sauna or steam bath has been a multi-cultural health practice for literally thousands of years. .... I have been the recipient of steam baths for many years and never suffered any negative effects from it. ..... In my opinion, this article may present helpful information to anyone suffering the effects of low infertility,.. but it may be misleading to assume that such practices as a steam bath are bad for anyone's health or potency.

.... Also important to consider here is that too much of anything is not good for you, so follow your instincts.
