had to join to share my frustration at how this conversation is being twisted and becoming increasingly non-productive for any of the parties: the companies, the farmers (growers and producers who must toil as stewards of the land who are charged with the responsibility of holidng the land sacred for us and future generations. Their use of transgenic seeds and fewer chemicals to produce more on less land using less inputs and water, safely - in the most dangerous job in the world: whew!) as well as we food-eaters.

actually. I find this position disturbing. And, no: I do not work for Monsanto in any way.

Therre needs to be a less polarized, stance-driven coversation built. What you are doing in this posting is inflaming a situation with false science, half-truths, conflation of time periods and so many additional issues.

This is the priority issue for the global village. Civility needs to be the overriding rule of engagement.

Food: its production, distributution, availability and safety; sustainability; water conservation; land and soil issues, global warming, along with feeding and clothing the world in another 30 years when our family , our global village, goes from 6.something billion to 9+Billion - this is the minuscule challenge (yes, i do mean it ironically of course)

The math doesn't work. If as Norm Borlaug, easily the most important human being for his contributions to feeding the world has challenged us: with biodynamic farming, organic production able to feed about 4.+ Billion people: about 2 Billion of us would have to volunteer to starve.

Seeds have been altered by humans for time immemorial. To improve lives, production and do so more easily and consistently. Is your issue with patent protection for the science?

Bioengineered seeds - from all companies allow greater yield, reduced chemical usaqge, less green house gas, fewer trees cut down, and the ability to feed more people on the same amount of land with less water consumption

now: help us understand what is wrong with that picture?

The tactics the Anti-M movement has spotlighted misrepresent both the challenges, risks, dangers and more importantly the truth.

It really is time to stop the polarized and destructive ranting from all sides. Let's talk constructively, for all our futures.

Someone with money needs to buy these companies out and change them. If I had it, I'd do it. I believe in old fashioned home grown seeds. I have been saving seeds and learning what weeds are edible and getting used to those, they can't GE everything. Get ready for something if nobody stops MonSatan and the others. I like that one!

I know about this. Somebody called Bill Smith was talking about it 12 years ago, telling everybody that this is the future. I half believed it then, but I strongly believe it now.You are right saying that this is the most evil company ever. If you control food you control everything. I am worried for my children , because I see that the gift of free will that God gave us all, is taken away from us, bit by bit.

Monsanto is a front for the Rockefeller family. As long ago as the early 1980s the family patriarch, David, realized that the ability to remain top of the heap via control of Standard Oil was not a viable long-term family strategy. This was exacerbated by realization that the fourth and fifth generations of the family were sufficiently numerous that dividing up the family fortune evenly would result in a substantial dilution of power. Hence it was decided to ruthlessly increase the amount of money controlled by the clan. Among several opening moves in this direction, Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) created an allegedly independent vehicle called Resources Development Foundation as a cut-out to receive family grant money, and REF funneled 'grants' to it notwithstanding that its list of officers was identical to RBF's. The Rockefellers also placed appointees in a variety of government and quasi-governmental organizations, to promote biotechnology, and turned Monsanto into their prized vehicle to realize the family dream that when anyone on the planet takes a bite of food, they must pay a dividend to the Rockefellers. It's that simple and disgusting.

Ths is Brad from Monsanto. There is a lot of misinformation here. Most notably, we do not pursue farmers where our technology inadvertently ends up in their fields. We have no incentive to do so and surely would not fair well in the courts should we make an attempts to do this.

Has anyone ever considered the possibility that with Monsanto's aggressive behavior at turning one of our main areas we have to maintain good health in the plants grown from our and everyone's seed stock into their genetically modified versions and all the health related problems that would ensue, that perhaps the company was formed a long time ago by the drug companies and secretly funded by them? After all who would have the most to benefit from all the ill health created by a poisoned food supply? Why can't the 1,500 farmers form a class action lawsuit against Monsanto? I am sure they have violated countless laws in their ruthless destruction of everything good and pure.

So Monsanto's GM seeds are allowed to contaminate other crops, monopolize the seed and food supply (where's that anti-trust law stuff NOW?! Did the government completely FORGET about that?!) and potentially completely destroy whole ecosystems, really (where's all the PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT legislation that stifles so many other businesses?!)... But wow, in recent years it became illegal where I live to buy/sell certain decorative plants like Butterfly Bush because they are too invasive. Nevermind that the Butterfly Bush my mom bought and planted before that hasn't shown ANY sign of spreading invasively! Maybe someone's has, but I haven't seen it. It's such a backwards, upside down, good-is-bad but bad-is-good world we live in now!! Just unbelievable.
