I first read about this five years ago and started taking about 800 IU/day (2 X pathetic RDA) from October to March (Here in cloudy UK).

I have never had a cold since. When others brought colds or flu close to me I would begin to feel the first signs and shovel in 20 X 400IU/day. This would overwhelm the "cold" in hours. I have beaten off about 15 "attempted" colds this way over five years. I have now totally convinced all my family after they relectantly tried this after they started colds. It has worked with everyone so far.

I do it this way (allowing a cold to "flirt" with me) so as to be sure I am not anywhere near an overdose situation.

Just try it. You'll be amazed!

HOW DID WE EVER LET DOCTORS CONVINCE US SUNLIGHT WAS HARMFUL?

THEY MIGHT JUST AS WELL HAVE SAID.."FRESH AIR IS HARMFUL" . And we would have believed them

HOW STUPID ARE WE?

HOW INTELLIGENT ARE THEY?

This is truly humbling.

D*Action is a project aimed at ending vitamin D deficiency. This group is offering blood spot test kits from ZRT, a very reliable lab, for only $30. You'll be required to provide some basic health data, and your results will be added to a database that will be used to study vitamin D and disease prevention. I should get my results in a few weeks. Can't wait to see where my blood level is at.

If the immune system is strong then there is no reason the body will not fight off infections or bugs going around. And it's not only the common cold, as I understand it this relates to all disease.

So, the key is to live your best life, keeping your immune system strong and that Vitamin D is a big part of that and that sadly in the past years doctors havew been recommending we stay away from that which will keep us well.

Here is a link to an article I just read that reports research that supports everything Dr Mercola has been posting on this sit about Vitamin D. Amazing how slow the establishment is, isn't it? I've been taking 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 for several months now, and this is the first year in decades I haven't been sick all winter with asthma, bronchitis, colds, and strep infections. In fact, I haven't needed my steroid asthma inhaler since last September. It feels like a miracle to me!

But I will try to get some feedback anyway.

Just speculating, but an occasional TH2 resolved infection with a concurrent fever up to 103 may be doing a lot more to keep us healthy that one would assume. The heat shock protiens are produced en-mass, the TH3 response is exagerated at the end of the infection and the whole immune cycle is allowed to work thru to completion. Any comments?

You make an extrememly important point- make sure you are paying attention to the way the values are reported. The normals Dr Mercola and Dr Cannell give are in ng/ml. You stated your values as nmo1/L and they did need the conversion to get to ng/ml. I was just looking it up when you repsponded back. I am studying for my doctorate in Natural Medicine after 28 years in the medical field and I work as a health coach in the meantime with my business. I have ALL of my clients on 5,000 IU of Vit D (that are adult) and they all had a healthy winter with no flu. (Especially my dark skinned clients.) I also use Dr. Cannells recipe for the flu of 2000 IU/kg of body weight dose for 3 days if someone was coming down with the flu and it worked miracles and had my brother back to work in 3 days. He was amazed. Vit D is absolutely amazing and I only supplement September-May and then I am back in the sun and I have red hair and green eyes and only stay out to get my Vit D and a little bit of pink and stay healthy all year. I am fighting Lymes disease and it has made all the difference in the world. I am attending the conferance where Dr Mercola is speaking on April 2-3 for Bio-Energetic Medicine. They will be discusisng the pros and cons of Vitamin D and Lymes. Stay tuned.

What CURES or reduces the chance of experiencing any particular disorder whether it be the influenza or an immune disorder, etc is the state our bodies experience at the moment of exposure to an invader like a virus acutely or long term dysfunction (autoimmune). Vitamin D is only a puzzle piece in this regard. I have been taking 10000 iu of D3 for several months and have slowly raised my level from 14 to 35 ng/ml. This still leaves me in a deficient state. Although I FELT better and experienced a much improved winter in Northern Michigan I still experienced a very shortened version of the Influenza (3 days instead of 2 weeks) I am convinced that the D made the difference.

As a Chiropractor,I tell my patients that the difference between medicine and Chiropractic is that medicine believes that our bodies make mistakes and Chiropractic understands that our bodies are fundamentally incapable or very rarely make mistakes. Our bodies fix themselves by design. Our decisions and choices, actions and attitudes are the mistake generators whether it be trauma or bad food choices or where we choose to live. Vitamin D is not even a "nutrient" its a steroid produced in our skin. Ultimately we are not designed to live in Northern Michigan so we have to supplement or choose artificial light exposure if you can find it and tolerate it. At present supplementing appears safe as long as you can trust manufacturers......

I would guess that 95% of people that come in are extremely deficient, in the teens and twenties or lower on their vitamin D level. When they start the diet, the doc prescribes 8,000 UI per day and often go up to 10,000 UI if they are extremely low. We recommend to clients to have their level between 60-100 to prevent cancer. Even on maintenance plans, the are usually on 2,000-6,000 UI per day, but I imagine those Rx's will go down some in the summer months.
