I do not buy table salts anymore and have been using the sea salts for a while now.

Since cutting down on salts my blood pressure has lowered.

When I get my BP checked it is sufficiently low.....however, too low sometimes, to the point of getting dizzy spells when I get up too fast. I may be lacking in something.

Though I am still confused on the iodine issue.

How much iodine do our bodies require? Do the Himalayan salts have enough iodine that is required for our thyroid? Is iodine a poison that we should not be ingesting? Questions, questions......does anyone know?

Iodine deficiency is well documented in certain cultures, as well as healthy amounts in others. Because of modern farming practices Iodine is increasingly more difficult to obtain in the food we eat. Supplementation in most cases is required, and table salt is not a healthy source. After reading some of the information on the above link, it is again a case of one of those “duh” moments. Conventional medicine and big pharma have no interest in promoting a cheap natural element essential for balanced health.

I am scared now to change back, but will think about doing it. However, in doing so, I need to find other ways to get iodine. I'm wary of kelp due to contaminants. I use a lot of salt because my body craves it. But obviously table salt isn't ideal. But certainly the contained iodine was necessary to get me back on my feet. I feel this deserves mentioning because so often its suggested that people switch their iodised table salt for natural sea salt without warning about this other problem. Ive heard the same from a few others also who have wound up severely iodine deficient because of this. Those that recommend natural salt may not be aware enough of this and need to be. There MUST be proper sources of iodine to make up for the lack of it in natural sea salt. If there is not, the person who thinks they are doing themselves the world of good, may well end up iodine deficient and much worse off for it as I was.
