There seems to be a lot of ignorance when it comes to diabetics. However, anytime you have a loved one in the hospital NO MATTER THE REASON, if you care anything about their well being, KEEP WATCH ON WHAT THEY ARE PUTTING IN THEIR MOUTH or having injected into their bodies!!!!!!!!!!!! Question EVERYTHING...but do the research YOURSELF as hospital personnel will tell you what the DR wants you to know....not always the truth, either.

Extraordinary article!

I have MS and didn't know that irradiated food can cause neurological disorders. The latest I had heard was that irradiated food is not good, but there isn't sufficient research on the effects it may have. So I was eating take outs, good tasting of course, but made with not-organic ingredients (oh, why can't the nearby restaurants cook their delicious meals with organic ingredients?), and chances are they contain some irradiated ingredients... Hmmm...

I liked this phrase in the article "The solution to creating healthier, safer foods lies in cleaning up the growing conditions and processing plants, and most certainly in returning farming to a small-scale basis -- not in dousing our food with varying levels of radiation."

What do any of you know about Hydrostatic sterilization of bacteria...ie the use of thousands of pounds of

water-pressure to kill bacteria and virus growth. I have my suspicions, but would love to know what is "factual."

The roots of the financial crisis should tell you that Government administrations are not your friends. They are captives of insiders and lobbies. In the same way that the financial regulatory bodies ignored even ponsi scheme warnings for a decade, the FDA is not protecting your interests because they are captive to the numerous lobbies in the food sector. The denial of the hazards of food irradiation is something lawyers call willful ignorance. There is no scientific uncertainty about this subject it is even backed up by real world epidemiological evidence. Orijen cat food uses minimal processing and thus drew the attention of Australia's morons. who required the Cat food import from Canada to be irradiated, leading to the mass extermination of fortunately the few cats that it had been fed to. Champion Pet Foods are not dumb and know to not mess with morons so they pulled out of exporting to Australia. You can read the full story on their website. No doubt Australia is still killing its own citizens but they have consumer activists too ................

I eat a lot of almonds. I just looked at the package I was snacking on and altho it says it is a product of USA, it doesn't give source state nor display the irradiation symbol. This is a store brand product. So which is fact and which is fiction?

No one, no argument, no opinion based on flawed science, ignorance or greasing of palms, no one can convince me that irradiation of our food is safe. Radiation causes cell damage. Radiation causes cell changes. If you want to call exposure to radiation safe, as in medical x-rays, you would have to give full disclosure of the risk involved. One would need to remember that dental xrays cause cell changes, and the effects of radiation are cumulative. The evidence given by Dr. Mercola is more than enough of a warning to avoid this ridiculous opportunity which can only make bigger profits for the food producers. The compounds formed are unknown new ones, plus the many poisons formed are known to kill.

I am especially offended by the arrogance of an industry to declare the 'radura', (that Madison Avenue symbol to reassure us that irradiation and leafy green logos of flowers are linked) an International symbol to designate irradiated food. I would have a skull and crossbones in there too.

I suppose the radura symbol is limited to labels in the USA. What other countries use this symbol?

Right on GenesisOneOne, but how many died in the wool Bible Thumpers have you seen following a Biblical diet? Ever gone to a Baptist or Seventh-day Adventist pot luck dinner? They way has been lost by many. Ever eat Ezekiel Bread, the 7 grain variety? How long has it been since any of us have been able to drink raw milk? Do you still have refined sugar in your cupboard? How many food items in the store do you put back on the shelf because they contain MSG, nitrates or nitrites or chemicals you can't pronounce.

I have feeling that the advice given to one religious group to head for the hills might just be upon us. Or are we going to try to grow our food in containers hidden in the back yard and sneak a few hens behind fences so the food police won't find out our travesty of trying to have a healthy diet.

We do have all reasons not to trust the experts. If you look up this new information about the swine flu in Mexico you have to ask yourself whether it came out of a research lab put together by experts. The combination of human, swine and bird viruses was never seen on the globe before. We all know, that they digged up the corpses of the flu victims in Norway of 1918 to revive the virus (for research only - I thought).

So why should we trust the EXPERTS who alter our food by genetically engineering or radiation? Why is the food - Mother Nature provides us with - no longer good enough for us?

Are we better and greater than God? No, not we, but our experts!

So when they tell us that a deadly combination of flu viruses takes it toll, we have to expect, that other UN-natural things could be deadly for us as well.

Exuse my english its not perfect...(..I,m from hugary Budapest)

I made up my mind a long time ago, maybe 20 years or so when margarine replaced butter.well here is my thinking............

God made cow, cow makes milk, I drink whole milk,or to save $ just add some water :-) maybe half and half, now you got lowfat milk !!!!

Cow makes milk, butter comes from milk, I use butter.

God made pig, bacon comes from pig and I eat bacon.( now, now moderation is the key to me )

Almost evry day some new articole comes out what not to eat...I cant keep up , just do a best I can.

I,m 57.....115 pound.....and in very good shape.

This is why my garden gets bigger every year. I have been lucky enough to find non-GM modified, organic seeds for various veggies and have grown my own. It makes me feel good to now that I can eat my tomatoes right off of the vine without worrying what residue may be on them, or what has been done to them. Why should I eat anything a bug won't eat? LOL!

I read once on the Internet (sorry I didn't save it, maybe someone can verify it) that the FDA says labeling for irradiation is required ONLY on the product as it comes out of the radiation plant, so it won't be accidentally irradiated again. After that, no labeling is required. I have NEVER seen a radura symbol in the supermarket, but I have most certainly detected irradiated beef (by the strong off flavor), and strongly suspect several others (cucumbers, pineapple, airplane food, eggs). The FDA lets the public believe that labeling is required on retail food, but that seems clearly false (or they simply are not enforcing any labeling rules). They are gradually irradiating more and more food and not telling you. Buyer beware.

Recently my wife discovered a local meat market that slaughters its beef locally. My wife said to them that she couldn't stand the flavor of supermarket beef, and the person at the counter replied, "yes, they are irradiating it". The locally slaughtered beef does not have the putrid flavor that we so often detect in supermarket beef. We live in extreme south Texas, which is probably one of the least discriminating markets in the nation, and the thought has occurred to me that they may have been using us for a test market to see how much they can get away with. I think they did find out that they couldn't get away with gamma irradiation (giving the beef a singed hair flavor), so they have switched to either electron beam or x-rays which just gives a putrid flavor, which can almost be covered up with enough flavorings.

Have others detected off-flavors in supermarket beef?

I used to be an organic farmer, but I had to quit the farming because I couldn't sell my products mostly free range eggs and vegetables, maybe it is a good idea to start up again. When I decided ´to be an educated farmer, it was because all people need food to survive so I was curtain that it was a good idea. But the food could always be made cheaper and cheaper as conventional food, so we couldn't survive because our products was more expensive and many want cheap food.
