Surgeons and immunologists from Duke University Medical School believe your appendix produces and protects the good bacteria in your gut.

re: Is Your Appendix Really a Useless Organ?

What is the purpose of the tonsils? I will not 'rest assured' that there is a purpose for every organ in the body. I will not say there isn't until we can prove it, and say we should always be on the look out, but that is a neutral stance, not an inherantly positive one.

Bodies contain flaws and useless things. What may have been useful before may become useless in new environments, or as other parts which it supports or supports it are removed through changes in DNA from the process of mutation that causes evolution.

if the appendix is involved in production of new bacteria, maybe taking out the appendices of celiac people will stop this dodgy bacteria and cure the autoimmune reaction. after all humans are omnivores who have survived because they can eat anything. its not fair for people with celiac to miss out on grains like wheat and barley.

I probably didn't use quite those words but this article finally gave me the answer I was looking for all those years. God creates everything and everyone with a purpose. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder to find what that purpose is.

And while I believe it may still provide some minor benefit to the human race, I submit the following argument in opposition to those who feel it‘s wholly necessary to total health.

Have you considered basic evolutionary processes?

By example I would point out wisdom teeth, or third molars. In the modern age, how many people actually have these four teeth fully erupt into the dental arches and be entirely functional and useful?

Answer - probably less than 25%.

But anthropological studies have shown that earlier generations of humans had fully erupted and functional wisdom teeth.

So, they have been less and less inclined to naturally erupt into modern human‘s mouths as we evolve. Why? Because we no longer need them and our jaws no longer accommodate them. Few would argue that point.

So, why is it so hard to believe that the appendix is also somewhat of a "vestigial" remnant of our past? A past when a natural, raw diet was integral to our existence and the number of toxins ingested or absorbed - man-made or otherwise - was virtually nonexistent.

Perhaps the appendix WAS a storehouse for the good bacteria back then. But nowadays, it‘s turned into our body‘s cesspool where it seems to store only toxic crap our bodies are unable to directly deal with.

Otherwise, why would so many of them become inflamed and need to be removed before they explode and put us into septic shock? Hmmm, septic is a term used in the cesspool industry - as in septic system. Go figure...

Other species have evolved and specialized, why is it so hard to accept that we are too?

About a year ago out of nowere I got a dull pain on my side and thought it might be a kidney stone...so I jumped around hearing about certain things you can do to help push them threw. Next day I thought it moved so I was pretty sure it was a stone....but that night It was feeling more localized. The next day it was feeling pretty bad it was really hard for me to go to sleep that night... the next day I decided to look for other options since this "stone" wasn't moving at all now.

were the pain was at was right between my belly button and hip bone I could feel a small buldge were the pain was. I couldn't get around the fact that it either was crones disease or my appendix. It had been 3 days and I was in so much pain. I read the about the dangers if it was my appendix, but the conventional medicine hate inside me(from past problems) decided to try something out. There was also a very good chance that they would take it out "anyways" even if it wasn't my appendix.

One web page(and only one I could find) talked about a way to cure appendicitis by water fasting. so I decided to try it along with enemas.I've done water fasting before so I wasn't new to it (to cure my IBS af few years back) Within 24 hours I could feel a slight decreas in pain and by the 3rd day it was gone!

fasted for 5 days total and of course at very watery vegatables and fruits for 2-3 days afterwards. I was also pushing upwards on the "buldge" like popping a pimple (toward my intestin) while upside down durning this time.

IF it was my appendix, I guess it makes sense to fast since waste is not constantly blocking the appendix so it can drain(?). I have no idea and I'll never know if it was my appendix or crones disease, but I know that it was sudden, painful and fasting cured whatever it was :)

You'll probably have problems sometime with it. You don't need it so I took it out. Of course, since then I've been diagnosed with a slew of issues including a rare auto-immune disorder called Neurosarcoidosis which I no longer have any symptoms plus colon issues. I've really had to take care of myself doing all that I know to do including pro-biotics, digestive enzymes and more. I've been in nutrition now since '97. Now they tell me I have gallstones. Surprised me. They are not touching me again! They do not bother me and I'm doing what I can to shrink them. I exercise, eat right, stay away from mold and fungus, including those in food. I've often wondered if all this was because they took out my appendix.
