It changed my life. I also had to read Fast Food Nation while I was in college. What an eye opener. Some of the things in John's book: These were stats 12 or so years ago

Amount of corn grown in the United States consumed my human beings: 20%

Amount of corn grown in the United States consumed by livestock: 80%

Amount of soybeans grown in the United States consumed by livestock: 90%

How frequently a child on Earth dies as a result of malnutrition: Every 2.3 seconds

Pounds of grain and soybeans needed to produce 1 pound of edible food from:

Beef 16 Pork 6 Turkey 4 Chicked/Egg 3

I have read on Dr. Mercola's site how important the Omega 6 to 3 ratio is and we get the right ratio from grass fed beef. I live in SE Wisconsin and I can buy my beef at the farmer's market in the summer and the same farmer sells to a local health food store, so i feel very lucky. I have found "Amish" chicken at some of our grocery stores and it is organic, no GMO, NO antibiotic, no pesticide. So i feel good about that too. No doubt the cost is higher, but YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT so I know it's worth it in the long run.

I live in a rural area so it's easy for us to do this. Folks that live in town can do this also, by getting with a local rancher, and "group buy" the cow and processing. It's way less expensive than buying the factory farm stuff.

Since then I've only bought locally raised, organic, free to roam the farm chicken and haven't had a problem since!

Turns out this is a very common problem in Asian countries and the girls are starting their cycles as young as my daughter. It was through a Nat'l Geographic article about this, that I finally figured out what was happening to my daughter since the "Dr's" here had no clue...

I live in a very small, rural town, where family farming is soon going to be a thing of the past because of the corporate take-over happening in this country and is terrible to watch happen!

It reveals the conditions of the animals, how they are fed, slaughtered. It is horrible, but true. I have definitely changed my meat eating since reading this! I thought I couldn't afford organic, humane raised meat but now I realized I have to!! One of the ways is that we eat less meat now. I order meat from organic farms or am able to find it in stores. I can't eat some of the things I used to "love" when ever I see a KFC now I think Kentucky Fried Cruelty! I think that the Lord gave us animals to eat but we should "respect" them and treat them decently. the Native Americans used to thank the deer for providing food and clothing. We have started our garden, chickens and maybe some pigs later.
