However, wearing certain types of bras might not be in your best interest

re: Can Wearing Your Bra Cause Cancer?

After reading several articles on breast cancer and the connection with bras, I am choosing to wear bras on special occasions only! I live in Hawaii so it is pretty easy to get away without wearing a bra.

Immediately their reference to how bras congest circulation and block lymphatic drainage was physiologically obvious. Why had we overlooked this? Then I read their book, "DRESSED TO KILL." All women in our culture should read it. Their demographic study alone (showing that where the Western bra has gone, increases in breast cancer has followed) should be quite sufficient to scare women out of their bras!

In 18 years of breastfeeding education, I never heard why lactation statistically lowers the risk of breast cancer, until reading the theory of these researchers. All know that the circulatory system in breasts proliferates during lactation. Well, since the lymphatic system grows proportionately alongside the venous and arterial systems, what is left behind after weaning is a much larger lymphatic "gutter" for a more-efficient-than-previous elimination of wastes and toxins. This is science that really makes sense!

Another noteworthy point is that lymph flow not only can be easily stopped by as much as fingertip pressure on the skin surface, it also can be enhanced by muscular and tissue movement. Breasts generally tend to sag with time, and therefore move more freely with body movements as they get older. This is a natural, structural aid to lymphatic drainage at exactly the age when breast cancer attacks most frequently. The bra prevents such movement from happening, except in bra-less societies where females for almost all of human history were never trained to feel comfortable wearing such harnesses..

The safety of bra-wearing is as much an "in-your-face" issue as was the corset. It was killing women, and they got rid of them. Can today's women be as wise? Chinese women got rid of the old unhealthy cultural practice of foot-binding for attractively smaller feet. Can today's women be as wise?

I had a mastectomy with 15 lymph nodes removed. What a sight if I go braless with only one breast. How dangerous is the chemical prosthesis? Previous to all that, my sternum was wired together when I had heart surgery due to a congenital heart defect.(I was definitely a candidate for cancer and it happened.) How dangerous is all that metal in my chest? I don’t think any doctor would do the surgery to remove it. Certainly, insurance wouldn’t pay for it. Is there anyone with like situation? Thanks.

I am also a massage therapist who does lymphatic therapy and I really encourage women to get this therapy as I include the breasts in this. For myself, I practice dry skin brushing and I follow a direction pattern similar to the lymphatic therapy. It is great for the skin and is a simple way to keep the lymph flowing on a regular basis as self care.

Just try it. If you want to use a deodorant that's fine but unless you really check the labels you are using an ANTI-PERSPIRANT WHICH STOPS PERSPIRATION THAT'S what clogs the lymph glands, your own perspiration building up. Find a deodorant NOT an antiperspirant it's hard but they have them even at Walmart.

Smaller busted women may feel less need for the support and spend less time in their constricting pieces of clothing... It does seem like the breast cancer rate in Japan might be rising, but with a higher percentage of women working long shifts outside the home, they'd be wearing their bras that whole time too. (plus, some are getting larger)
