Activated vitamin D is a steroid hormone which regulates more than 1,000 human genes. God gave us instructions in the Bible as to what should be eaten and what shouldn't be. Taking care of your "temple" means getting exercise outside (in the sunshine), eating the foods he gave to us (see Genesis 1:29) and maintaining good spiritual health all tie together. Try changing your diet before you start going to therapists. I took meat and milk products out of my diet and feel great! My whole bodily system works better without animal products, which actually pave the way to get adequate sunshine because without animal products (and a good, natural sunscreen like Dr. Mercola's) you don't have to be as concerned about promoting skin cancer (animal products feed ALL cancers).

On my first visit she did a physical and ordered blood work. I asked that she include a Vitamin D test to check my levels. She immediately got on the muscle and told me there was no need for that test and to have it ,I would have to pay instead of my insurance! Dr mercola taught me that her lab of choice,Quest diagnostics, would charge me about $250 for the test and if I got the 1 25 hydroxy vitamin D test that it would be on average 40% to high. More on this later. I explained to her that I had followed dr. Joe Pentergasts protocol of 50,000iu of vitamin D per day for 30 days and continue to supplement with 5,000iu pre day. She than ordered the test above. I questioned if that was the right test and she was adament that it was. When my blood test values came back they did not include my vitaminD results. When I called Quest they told me that so meny doctors were ordering this test( the wrong one by the way)That they didn't know when they would have the results! 30 days later I found my levels to be 96 ng/ ml !!! My new dr. freaked out and ordered 3 new tests curtain that I was in grave danger at those levels. In the mean time before the test results came in I had reread the article from Mercola and knew that the test was the wrong one. I was not concerned about the high levels. The proper test should have been the one without the ONE! Simply 25 hydroxy vitamin D. As part of a vitamin D study from grassrootshealth.com I had the proper vitamin D test done and my values where 42ng/ml. Low according to this article. This after hours of fishing, golfing, gardening riding my harley, and taking a lot of vitamin D3! I also called the people at grassrootshealth.com and asked if they ever heard about washing off the oils with vitamin D in them before they could get into the blood stream? they had not,but I should have much higher values than I do so why so low?

Can your team investigate what 220V lamps are available out there for maintaining vitamin D levels safely?

There are number of products from major companies like Philips, OSRAM, etc. including full spectrum bulbs and narrow band UVB lamps.

One of the products that is widely available without major hassle is terrarium lamps ReptiGlo (with 2, 5, 8% UVB). It is marked 'for reptiles only' for obvious marketing and liability reasons but appears to be exactly what human body needs. Can someone look into this?

This was not "new research" but a literature review. It looks for a correlation in previously published studies between D levels and athletic performance. It does not prove a causation but rather may point us in a future direction of research. And it sure makes sense but more work would need to be done.

re: New Research Shows Vitamin D Can Dramatically Increase Athletic Performance

Oh and aren't we supposed to avoid showering for up to several days because the natural oils on our skin help to produce the the Vit D after sun exposure????

Wasn't that in this very newsletter last week?

"However, whereas both steroids and vitamin D can improve athletic performance, steroids are obviously quite dangerous to your health. "

Really? Should i visit a doctor to have all my "steroids" lowered? Get rid of my Testosterone? funny, I've read hundreds of articles on the health benefits of optimal steroid hormone balance using non-synthetic sources.

Anyway, these statements just remind me to question every source of information. Even the good Dr. Mercola went through med school where he was taught to manage diseases, NOT to promote optimal health. He comes by Health knowledge the same way every poster here does... reading research articles, questioning sources (I hope), studying others ideas, maybe some trial and error with his patients or with his self. Putting Dr. in front of someones name usually means they went to school... a lot!

There never will be a single secret elixir to life. To cure depression, melt excess fat, cure all disease, turn us all into Olympic athletes. It is the open-minded search for new pieces of the beautiful human puzzle that drives us. To be better, healthier, smarter today than we were yesterday in so far that we are capable.

Funny. I have tried all the detoxes, supplements, plans, protocols, routines over several years and I can't point to the one thing that made a difference to my health. BUT, I woke up one day and realized I was leaner, stronger, fitter, sleeping better, more energy, greater peace of mind, and rarely sick. Was it the greens, the tea, the whey, the D, the vegetables, the lemons, the juice, the cleanses... or the intention and the search to open-mindedly try new things, and "hear" others in their search for physical, spiritual, mental health?

But prayer can help bear the weight of depression. Jesus didn't take away my parents cancers, my depression, anyone else's diseases or problems. That is not what God does. God gives us challenges and a mind; we reach out, we try to transcend the challenges using whatever we have. If that means taking Vitamin D, working out, antidepressants, going to therapists, etc., in addition to prayer and other coping mechanisms, I will do that..
