When minerals are ionically charged, it gives them the affinity to attract electomagnetically to the villi in the intestinal lumen which greatly enhance absorption and bio\avaliability. Chelated minerals are minerals bound to amino acids or proteins and they are usually sold in table form (ALBION process) and are NOT IONIC. It also depends greatly on the ability of your hydrochloric acid to IONIZE the minerals and give them a charge to assist with absorption. It is a fairly well known fact that many people - especially older people - lack sufficient hydrochloric acid - HYPOCHLROHYDRIA - which can definitely affect the breakdown and absorption of tableted minerals including CHELATED minerals. Also the ligand that the minerals are attached to also has an influence on the digestive system's ability to absorb these types of minerals. I have also used a IONIC MINERAL liquid by Trace Mineral Research called "CONCENTRACE" and this doesn't have ANY CALCIUM but has a lot of magnesium along with chloride and over 70 TRACE MINERALS from the Great Salt Lake - with almost all the natural sodium removed - even though BIO-ORGANIC sodium is good for your body. My bones are excellent - +4.0 - but I have also been following an alkalizing diet and lifestyle by Dr. Robert O. Young who is a microbiologist and who I stuided with personally.

I was diagnosed with osteopenia about 4 years ago after a routine bone density test. Thankfully I have a very knowledgeable doctor - in Canada - and he put me on a strontium supplement. He also discovered that I had celiac disease. Amazingly, when I went back for another bone density test a year later, my results were normal with no signs of any bone loss. The clinic that did the test said the previous one must have been misread - Whatever!!! Prior to all this I had taken calcium and magnesium supplements for over 20 years. I have always been very active too - aerobics, hiking, weight training. As to the "Poster" who mentioned Sally Field and her commercials and ads - no puzzle there, she gets paid to promote that drug.

My bone density increased substantially ( confirmed by scan and xray) after only 4 1/2 Months. Check out calcium aspartate anhydrous!(EZORB) Dr. M, check out the clinical studies which show some pretty impressive results. There are also some other very helpful applications ( fibromyalgia). Think its may be available only online presently.

I know some of you will be dismayed by the following fact, but sprouted grains contain the richest natural source of chelated minerals.

Conversely, with the exception of sodium, potassium and chlorine, the ionic pathway is the least absorptive route for minerals in the human GI tract. Small wonder then that mineral salts ("ionic minerals") are rarely found naturally in whole foods. Only the cheapest multi-mineral supplements, which are marketed for the busy, and/or frugal, and/or poorly informed consumer are formulated with (nonchelated) ionic minerals. Examples of ionic minerals (found in Centrum supplement) : Dibasic Calcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Stearate, Cupric Sulfate, Magnesium Oxide, Nickelous Sulfate, Sodium Selenate, Zinc Oxide. All of these are nearly unabsorbable, albeit well marketed junk ingredients.

So choose supplements having chelated minerals. In many products you must read the list of Ingredients (not the rundown under Nutrition Facts). Chelated minerals can be identified by the word that follows the name of the mineral, such as: AAC (amino acid chelate), acetate, arginate, ascorbate, aspartate, chelate, chelazome, chelavite, citrate, glycinate, gluconate, picolinate, malate, methionate.

Hyprocrtically ignorant that Dr. Thompson is against supplements that have little or no health benefit, and yet is in favor of the most common type of ineffective supplement; ionic minerals :-(

NASA found out that what brought back the lost bone density to their astronauts was not so much weight lifting and muscle building but vibrational, rhythmical impact to the bones.

How can we generate that beneficial impact? Natur gave most of us two legs which hit the ground with each step and therefor sending that force through the whole skeleton - benefiting our bones, vertebrae, cartilage I F our skelton is well aligned. If due to poor movement habits our joints are not stacked nicely on top of each other the counter pressure we get from the ground when we step on it gets deviated, compressing joints and vertebrae ( oftern in the lumbar and neck curves) wearing down cartilage. If our movement is not easy, fluid but rather heavy (we are out of line and therefor need a lot of muscular effort to hold ourselves upright) or even painful or uncomfortable most of us just move less trying to avoid the compromising moves.

When I heard about the BONES FOR LIFE Program I dove into it. I definitly want to have my bones for my whole life, without breaking some or having to replace parts or take poison. And I'm thrilled. I hahe power is back into my own hands, or should I say feet or bones. Like everybody knows changing habits is not so easy. The easy excercises are designed to reprogramm our movements and neurological pathways. It's done in save greenhouse conditions, starting out lying on the floor or sitting in a chair where we don't have to battle balance issues. Once the new patterns are set they get transfered into the upright position. It's easy, fun and effective.

Bones for Life gave me back an easy ryhythmical stride, my back pain is gone, I walk more now and getting the itch for running. A friend of mine reversed her severe osteoporosis. People get confident moving again - losing their fear of falling. Check out www.bonesforlife.com to find a teacher in your area.
