i charge my iphone in the bathroom overnight. on the other side of the bathroom wall, one of my children is sleeping. does anyone know if it can do damage through the wall?

All of you who think you're safe because you carry your cell phone in your purse or lunchbox, you're forgetting that every 8 minutes or so your phone communicates with the nearest tower so that you can be located should you send or receive a call.

The article is very interesting and scary concerning brain tumors and i have a couple of questions. I am 12 years old and i just recently got a cellphone due to going to a new school. First, when you are texting can that be harmful to you at all in anyway? Secondly, what do you advise as the limit for excessively using your phone per day?

I haven't had a conventional cell phone in over two years. When I did have one, I hardly ever used it. They are convenient, but they just didn't sit well with me. It gave me headaches constantly and I just didn't like using it. I really don't like phones to begin with. When I'm on a landline, I use the speakerphone function. Having loud sounds go directly into my ear is going to give me a headache. I like my corded speakerphone phone. It works just as well and even though it isn't "new," I can't complain about the quality. I do own a Tracfone that stays in my glove compartment with about an hour worth of minutes. This is for emergencies only and it only costs me 30 dollars a year to maintain. I haven't had to use it yet, so I am glad about that. What really gets to me is when I see someone holding an infant and is on a cell phone. Makes me sick to my stomach, but it is possibly because of their ignorance of the health risks that they engage in such a dangerous behavior. All the more reason to get the word out.

My ex-husband had a brain tumor removed from the right side of his head last year - he was a heavy cell phone user, and he would hold the phone to his right ear.

I'm severely electrosensitive. Specifically, I've been so overexposed to electromagnetic and radiowave fields from wireless technology, that I cannot tolerate any exposure to EMR whatsoever without becoming symptomatic - sweats, rashes, severe anxiety, insomnia, memory and focus problems, palpitations. Even the sunlight makes me ill now.

We are truly playing with fire when it comes to wireless technology.

I have read that the button-type devices some companies are selling that stick to the back of cells phones dont work in protecting us. There is a company that has a pretty interesting design with a headset that lets sound pass through air instead of wires to the head. They have cell phone pouches that dont block radiation but they say the pouch you keep the cell phone in causes the radiation to deflect away from the body. Does anyone have more science background and could tell us whether that works or not??

My father died from a brain tumor in 1973. My mother had a large brain tumor removed in 1998. Neither one of them smoked or drank or ever used a cordless or cell phone. I use a cell phone. I guess my days are numbered!

The worldwide proliferation of Alzheimer's is diagnosed reluctantly in Japan, due to a national stigma attached to the condition. While Japanese TV has health-topic programs on brain aging, noting that younger people show deterioration of mental faculties similar to the elderly and that chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and depression are rampant, these are ascribed to psychological factors. The shows point out missing nutrients or indicate mental exercises to keep "thinking young". The condition occurs in over 2 million Japanese, affecting all ages. Among the young, it manifests as social withdrawal, and they shut themselves off in rooms. At first, the media named it "jiheisho" (autism), then "hikikomori" or withdrawing and hiding. The sudden onset coincides with a major expansion of cell phone service.

Ryoichi Ogawa, Kobe MD, reports that 80% of his CFS patients are frequent users on a daily basis of cellular phones, personal computers, TV games, etc. He decided on a clinical study to test a cause-effect relationship of cellular phones and computers to CFS. Ogawa chose 40 from his young CFS patients (to compare them with 50 healthy persons) to measure their blood flow in the upper eyelid ophthalmic artery that branches off from the carotid artery carrying blood from heart to brain), with the super Doppler method – a test that verifies blockage of brain blood vessels. Subjects held a cell phone at their left ear for 30 seconds. Prior to use, all showed normal blood flow of 10 cm/sec. in the arteries of both eyes; after phone use, the flow dropped to less than 5 cm/sec. for all those tested – a rate indicating reduced brain blood flow. Exposure from sitting within 1 meter of a video screen for 15 minutes also reduced brain blood flow to less than 5 cm/sec. in both eyes for all CFS patients; among the healthy, 78% had a reduction to less than 5 cm/sec. in both eyes.
