I know says xylitol is OK, what about erythritol?

It has zero impact on blood sugar, registers 0 on glycemic index and is not metabolized by the body.

anybody from Mercola Clinic care to enlighten us on his or your position??

Thanks!!

Quote .."The two natural ingredients in Lakanto are Non-GMO erythritol and the supersweet extract of the luo han guo fruit

You may be familiar with other sugar alcohols like xylitol, sorbitol, and malitol used in sugar-free candies and chewing gum. But erythritol is different and much better than these other sugar alcohols because it is FERMENTED. " end quote

Is this the same as erythritol?? Is it good for you or bad? I know that This can be a matter of opinion, but I was wondering if the fermentation makes a difference for the better and if the Luo guo fruit is significant? It would be nice to have a healthy sweetener for diabeties, as I am now beginning to hear that Stevia is becoming a concern.

Thanks in advance for info on this...

I have read Dr. Mercola's defense of the xylitol he uses (supposedly like anything else in life there is a wide range of quality in different xylitols out there and he uses a high quality one) and feel comfortable consuming a few Cocoa Cassava bars per week. The other product I use with sugar alcohols is Body Ecology's Lakanto, an interesting fusion of fermented, non GMO erythritol and luo han guo. I like a teaspoon in raw cream that I then pour over berries. I have not observed any health issues with these products, but then again I'm not eating them in any large quantities.

It is well-documented that consumption of polyols may result in gas, digestive upset, and diarrhea, and this is especially so with maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol--several more commonly used sugar-substitute polyols. Erythritol is comparatively new and differs greatly in it's general

effect on individuals. Few reports of digestive phenomenon accompany consumption of this particular polyol. Excessive consumption of erythritol might precipitate gas & diarrhea. In general, consumption of sweetened foods to excess is to be avoided/diminished.

Initially i had gas and diarrhea, and twinges of what i thought were old kidney stones acting up again. Soon I started getting so dizzy, I could barely walk straight, was afraid to drive.

I stopped using it for about 2 weeks, in which time all the strange symptoms went away.

I gave it another shot just to test it, and wouldnt you know, after a bout of diarrhea, the kidney pain started right away.

That stuff is crystalline. I would imagine, coupled with the de-hydrating effect of the diarrhea, it actually promotes kidney stones!!

careful using xylitol! (maybe as an occassional chewing gum or mouth wash only)

If you want to eat it, drink it, take it, then by all means go for it. But why defend products that are unnatural to our body and processed?

You want vitamins and wate and low calories, here is an idea: get some water, squeeze some lemon and orange juice into it and enjoy! Natural and healthy.

All these companies with all these vitamin waters, and Fuze and Nestea Vitao are making a killing off of us, because they prey on people's insecurities of not getting enough vitamins, etc, while playing right into the fact that most are addicted to sugar and hence require sweetened products, not to mention colored and artificially flavored.
