I was diagnosed when I was 11. There is no family history of the disease, I came from a healthy, active, little-to-no immunization family. It came as a shock to be diagnosed with something I'd never even heard of, but I was well disciplined in the proper care of myself and have maintained outstanding control, even during my first two and now third pregnancy, with no complications whatsoever in 12 years. I am not on a "special" diet. I eat lots of protein and salads, minimal amounts of carbs, and am able to eat any fruit/veggie any time without alteration to my numbers. (My A1C's are and always were in low-mid 6's.)

I think it is great that Dr Mercola wants to help those with Type II avoid reaching the point of "the needle", but when my friend emailed me the link to the article and I read "Insulin Condemning You to a Premature Death?" I was devastated. And, in my devastation and reading quickly through the article, I lost track of whether it is killing ME, a Type I diabetic, or it could be killing Type II's. After digesting it, I concluded that even if it is true, it isn't as close to true in Type I cases. As long as tight control is achieved by staying active and eating right, there should be no need for "extra insulin" but just what's needed to cover the lack of pancreatic production.

There was a previous comment that I replied to a moment ago. A mother frustrated at the non-clarification between Type I/juvenile onset and Type II Diabetes. I agree with her, to a point. I am not so angry as she was, but I would so much more appreciate to read or hear, from any group or health care professional, recent developments in finding a cure, or a help, for Type I or Type II Diabetes, rather than "Diabetes". There is a small difference between the two types, but to label it all the same, especially the way this article is titled, isn't what those of us who are dependant on it for our livlihood want to read... without lots of clarification that is :)

However before 2 years by accident I came to know that my KIDNEY is close to failuire. My CREATANINE was 3.9 in January 2008. I was in panic,. I left my job and went back to my home town to take rest for ever and wait for end.

After lot of study, my panic disappeared and I returned back to job after 6 months. Since last 2 years, I am taking ful precaution in taking food. getting my KFT tested every month and controlling my diet to make sure all minerals are in good proportion in my body.

My CREATANINE is still at 4.1, it is not getting lower from this level.

Now I am trying to control my B.P. by taking medicine daily. Controlling my Sugar level by exclusively from diet control. Fasting sugar since last one year is in range of 80 to 98 only.

I do not know, what to do, because I do not want to go for dialysis. I am prepared to control any way possible to keep my Kidney at same or better. I do daily excercise also 1 hour in morning only. That includes YOGA as well.

Can some one suggest me best way to keep continued for some more time. My age is 59 years and 6 motnh now.

In the case that according to your words: “vegan lifestyle will clearly help many it will also harm many” I would suggest to improve your recommendation from above text in the following way:

“This means avoiding all breads, pasta, cereals, rice, potatoes, and corn (which is in fact a grain)” for all the protein metabolic types.

In 2005 he penned a book "One Son's Quest and Cure for Diabetes". I found it fascinating. Few years ago I was on the study stay at Lifestyle Centre and Hospital where were diabetics (also many other chronically ill clients) successfully treated with the vegan diet. Their blood sugar levels went down on the vegan diet, as well as lowered the need to take any drugs and this all just in few weeks period. I do not agree that in order to treat or prevent diabetes it exist just one nutritional approach.

Reference to the new study which I found:

Compared with nonvegetarians, vegetarians had a lower risk for type 2 diabetes, after adjustment for age, sex, ethnicity, education, income, physical activity, television watching, sleep habits, alcohol use, and BMI.

A theory offered behind this is that the liver with metformin cuts back on its glucose output, which allows the pancreas to cut back on its insulin level.

I am wondering whether metformin might have benefit for type 2 diabetics who have a consistent fasting glucose level above 6 millimoles / litre where they are so obese that they can not effectively exercise.

I have found that mowing the lawn with a walk behind mower, 6 hours a day, with no shirt on is enough to give me a slightly pink glow, and to keep my glucose levels below 5 millimoles / litre but despite that my blood pressure remains high, at 135 / 76. I have to use an epsom salts bath on my feet to avoid cramps, and ensure that I am getting enough salt to keep my stomach from having acid reflux. having enough salt appears to be significant to avoiding cramps when I am sweating with summer work. But I wonder whether having enough salt might be part of why my BP stays so high.

This type of diet is rich in natural nutrients that will reverse the nutritional starvation that eating a western style diet produces.

In doing my research I find books and articles that promise to reverse and or cure diabetes. I'm so angry! Using the term "Diabetes" loosely just to

sell a book or push an online article is totally unfair to the children and people who live and battle daily with the REAL diabetes, Type 1. My daughter

is not the obese , sugar and garbage food eating person who gave themselves Type 2 diabetes! We have been natural food eating, exercising, natural living,

non-vaccinating people since day one and Type 1 is NOT reversible or curable (at least yet) and it is mis-leading to label an article with the words "diabetes" and

"curable" without including the truth about the REAL diabetes: Type 1.

If I take my daughter's evil (in your eyes) insulin away, she will die very soon afterwards. Bottom line. Next time you write about the glorious ways to

cure diabetes and how evil insulin injections are, PLEASE consider the innocent type 1's, the people who have the real disease, the fit, exercising, healthy

eating ,yet insulin dependant type 1's.

An angry mother.

She also is a PCOD and has many other problems. She met a naturopath who has put her on some ayurvedic medication and accupressure. Her condition has improved quite considerably. He has advised her to get herself enrolled in a yoga & meditation course which will help her balance the five orientation of human body.

I will be more than happy to put anyone interested in this methodology in contact with my wife's guru.
