Does anyone have any insights about long-term poisoning from using a soldering iron?

My husband is having serious hearing problems, so we had his hearing checked. It is not an audio problem.

I have to repeat almsot everything I say to him -- and even then he often doesn't hear me or misunderstands what I'm saying. I now find myself automatically saying everything twice because I'm sure he won't hear me the first time -- and he often doesn't. He is the only person who has this problem hearing me, so it isn't like I'm a "low-talker" or something.

He mentioned the other day that he is concerned it might be long-term effects from years of putting soldering iron in his mouth while he was working on electronic components, long before he realized how dangerous lead is (we're talking 40 years ago).

I'm looking for info about lead soldering specifically. I'm looking for information on chances of reversal, long-term permanent effects, and possible increased deterioration.

If I'm in the wrong thread, please let me know.

I was led to this website by doing a google search looking for more information on Candidiasis. Why are lead poisoning and Candidiasis related? Is it just because the symptoms can be similar?

And re: Birdlady, I, too, have to take a bath every day in my old bathtub where I rent. How do I go about finding out whether or not THAT is the culprit!!

Help.. I have itchy rashes all over my skin despite keeping my bathtub sanitized and being very clean. I think it's severe Candidiasis, but... nothing's helping! Could this be lead poisoning??

Suggestions re: plates and contamination --- Use Corelle plates (the ones that are made of glass not ceramic) to be safe. Those are at least made of glass and are not glazed...

Re: Seaweeds -- there is a corrolation between eating alot of it and thyroid conditions (particularly in women) later in life -- at least in Asian countries so moderation I think would be key. I haven't heard anything about cilantro however. I am going to try that on my toddler as a preventative measure.

My 5 year old daugther had high lead counts from eating a paint chip in an older house we were living in. We had her eat lots of fresh raw cilantro every night on a burrito and it chelated the lead out of her system!! The doctor was amazed.

and WHY has lead not been BANNED!?

By the way, dfsnTx, ADD is not caused by lead poisioning. I'm sure lead doesn't help ADD in anyway, but you are either born with it or not. I myself have ADD and what do you know? My mom, my aunt, and possibly even my grandmother has ADD.

Use of Lead should be BANNED! YA HEAR ME!?!? BANNED!!!

Does anyone know about aluminum toxidity? I had a hair analysis done and it showed a VERY high level of aluminum. My ND gave me the herb cats claw. Is this useful? I dont know how this happened. Don't use deodorants with aluminum, don't cook with aluminum cookware or use aluminum foil, use antacids, etc. However, I am a recovering alcoholic, I'm thinking maybe it came from all the aluminum beer cans. ??? I also had 13 electroschock treatments for depression, (didn't heIp) but they injected me with all kinds of drugs to undergo this. I am starting to use an infared sauna and have also done 2 lon cleanse. I have seen nothing on Dr. M's site about Ion cleanse, so I don't really know if it is safe. ??? I took myself off all these d*** pills they were giving me. Can anyone give me any additional information? I read somewhere I should use apple pectin. ??? Of coarse, my traditional doctors think the hair analysis is irrelevant. They think I'm crazy to believe it. I don't have the money to see Dr. Mercola as yet. I feel really sick, shakey, can't concentrate, no appetite, etc. Of coarse the doctors say IT'S JUST DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY. I know it's NOT.

It is very difficult to find dishes/china that are made anywhere, but in China. Even though the use of lead is banned in dishes and cookware, do you believe that China is following the ban? I do not believe there is anyone -- government body or otherwise that is testing for lead in dishes or cookware coming from China or from any manufacturer for that matter. Does anyone know of a reliable kit for testing these products?

As an ADULT who was diagnosed several months ago to have Severe Lead Poisoning, I offer a brief critique of your article for its irrelevancy and inadequacy.

1. Children are not the only individuals capable of exposure.

Focusing on such minimizes the problem to the drama of the mass media practice of sell-and-abandon.

2. While lead in paints was legislated out in the 1970s, Canadian tests in the mid-to late 1990's found that most paint manufacturers continued to use lead because the laws had never been observed, encouraged, maintained, enforced, or acted upon to provide penalty or example! Most paint continues NOT to provide an ingredient list, which at the minimum, would indicate if the white pigment in the paint is from lead, or titanium. There are few other alternatives for this color Base.

3. Testing is NOT simple!

I had hair and blood tests for 4 YEARS to try and determine why I was having heavy metals poisoning symptoms and chronic fatigue. I recognized the symptoms because I had previously been exposed to acute mercury poisoning from dental amalgams, Twice, and had found the sources, had them removed, with Great effort and persistence, and fully detoxed. My Severe Lead Poisoning assessment was reached only after I paid over $600 to have a multiple challenge test for heavy metals followed immediately by a 24-hour urine test, analysed by one of the best North American labs. A person I know chewed on the paint next to his crib when he was a baby. He has been labeled ADD and has asthma. And what do you know, there was lead in the paint he was consuming.

The best way to chelate lead out of your body is to use a drug called Chemet. The chemical name is DMSA. It is also available over the counter by the supplement company Thorne Research, called Captomer.

Google DMSA on Mercola's site or just google the internet. There is a lot of info on it.

(DMSA is also the best way to chelate mercury out of your body).

Seaweeds , esp bladderwrack , fucus vesiculosis are heavy metal chelators and I ensure that my patients who have been exposed to situations repeatedly where they could have any heavy metal poisoning including lead poisoning take these seaweeds daily. Also spirulina and clorella are excellent as preventatives to build up and to assist in the elimination.
