Agreed in this particular instance but recently there was a case where a kid with spinal meningitis died because the parents refused treatment on religious grounds and I believe those parents should be prosecuted for child endangerment. Agree with you on importance of vitamin D but note that there isn't yet a wealth of data showing direct efficacy, but I'm trying to optimize my own levels with 20-30 minutes in the sun each day. I'm skeptical about your MTT; I doubt you can point me to 800+ peer reviewed studies showing efficacy. I'd also point out that you seem driven by the premise that BIG PHARMA is to be blamed for all the ills of the world. I seriously doubt big pharma was lobbying the judges and Interpol to round up these chemo-naysayers to protect their business interests. In an earlier article about universal health coverage you pointed out all the waste in Medicare spending, like $17bn for largely unneeded hysterectomies. I would agree that someone needs to go in and cut out wasted spending, ineffective procedures, etc. But I think if that could be done and if efficiency could be imposed, not only would we have better medicine and better outcomes, but we'd have money available to provide health coverage for everyone. And I agree prevention needs to be a part of healthcare coverage. I think there should be a government plan covering catastrophic coverage for everyone and perhaps 1 or 2 outpatient visits a year with a doctor of your choice but that other needs should be met individually by each person. Anyone who wants to engage in unhealthy living choices has to deal with those choices themselves. And back to big pharma; I don't see it as evil as you do. They provide quality products. Do I want to be on them? No way! But you can't put a gun to everyone's head and force them to eat a raw vegetable diet BECAUSE Dr. Mercola thinks it's best. Life is about choices---everyone gets to make their own but then must take responsibility for them.

In this country unborn babies can be murdered but we can't make our own choices to be treated as we choose? where's the freedom of choice here? this is control by big pharma!!!

in a country where abortion clinics are allowed to kill unborn babies but not give the right of parents to choose alternative healing methods when even the drs. in this country would not use chemo methods is totally disgusting and appalling!

If you call yourself a citizen.. then you place yourself under the Jurisdiction of the Government... in other words you made yourself its Ward.... instead of being its warden.

You must learn what being a sovereign or People of WE THE PEOPLE means. No one has jurisdiction or authority over you when you are sovereign.

The answer to this is: Only if you are sovereign... if you voluntarily place yourself under the government's or anyone elses jurisdiction or authority.... you made yourself its ward and it has the authority to decide what it thinks is best for you and you must comply... you have no one to blame but yourself.

If you don't like that... do something about it... learn what it means to be sovereign ... then DO IT!

It's very difficult for many people to understand this.... Sort of like the adult elephant that has been chained to the post since being a baby.... it thinks that it is free even when confined to the limits of the chain. And though it has many times over the strength needed to break the chain it won't try. But the elephant has been convinced it cannot and should not break free. It is very mistaken. The elephant will probably die enslaved and chained without ever daring to break the chain. If you think of yourself as a citizen... you are just like the elephant. You are not sovereign, you are not free...

As a Sovereign... NO ONE has the authority or jurisdiction to hinder you or determine for you, your health plan... You have to be brave enough to take responsibility for your own life... otherwise let the government tell you what to do.

I'm wondering if Dr. Mercola understood what he was really asking? I hope he did!

In my opinion, Chemo perhaps kills more people every year than cancer itself. Big Pharma has a vested interest in keeping us sick, and especially in cancer patients, and they pad the pockets of politicians to make sure they pass laws in favor of taking away our freedom to choose alternative treatment options. They stand to lose billions per year if alternative treatments are found to be successful in treating, or perhaps curing cancers. And why are Chemo and Radiation the only choices in mainstream medicine? These methods are dinosaurs in an age of super-technological advances in science, and especially in military weapons. Advances in these areas continue to amaze while medical treatments and practices remain stagnant. At the same time natural methods are being found on a regular basis to answer age-old health maladies that our health care system claims are "uncurable". It's all about profits. It isn't called the Health Care "Industry" for nothing. We all need to start taking our own health into our hands. Do your own research. Although mainstream medical mouthpieces ridicule and debunk alternative practitioners as Quacks, it is in our best interest to pursue alternatives and stop feeding this insatiable "black hole" known as the health care giant.

My mother has survived 2 bouts of cancer without one treatment of chemo. She is currently 83 years old and still living with my father in their own home. My 2nd husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in December of 1997, chose chemotherapy because of a promise of 3 years. When the chemo failed to make a difference they went to radiation (brain) when his cancer metaticized to his brain. He became a virtual invalid and died 6 months later. If I ever receive a diagnosis of cancer I will refuse any treatment offered that includes these methods. Our government is fast becoming a dictatorship and the people in this country are blind to it.

It is also about control, they want to control you in all possible avenues and they often use your children to do it.

The best tool they use to control your thinking is the Boob Tube, here they use a brainwashing system to get you to think like they want.

The Media prostitutes itself for the money, telling you any lie they are paid enough to tell you, the whole truth is not in them.

See what this person writes:

But he has not given even one his free recipe. He had cured his own cancer, prostate cancer of another person and still the lung cancer of another pereson. If he is really concerned that every one should have access to it he should have given the recipe for these cancers too. Just imagine how many thousands will benefit. SO WHY DON'T YOU POST YOUR RECIPES ON THIS SITE SO EVERYBODY (THOSE UNFORTUNATE) CAN BENEFIT?

Just recently in Australia, a couple were charged, when their daughter died, after they had decided to employ homeopathic remedies to treat her. Where do you draw the line, when it comes to the treatment of minors? It's fine to use whatever treatment you like, on yourself, if you are an adult, but if the state mandates allpoathic treatment for minors, then the state should also be expected to pay for it!

I think you are doing your readers a disservice by suggesting that Daniel's parents lost custody as a result of the court's ruling. You can read the court decision and some commentary here: <a href= "www.ebargains-unlimited.com/.../a>. Chemotheraphy treatment had begun and the parents wanted it discontinued. According to 3 doctors who testified, Daniel would have a 95& chance of survival if the chemotheraphy were completed. The ruling is not an attack to the freedom to choose a natural health treatment.

It amazes me, since there are so many viable statistics that show how dangerous chemotherapy is - as the side effects are often worse than the cancer effects - that doctors still insist on administering chemo. My cancer client - who is in her 60s, took 3 chemo treatments, along with alternative therapies (supplements and organic foods) and is doing very well. She's agreed to use Avastin, a new drug, which we've researched and she chose to take, and she is doing very well. We are keeping her on alternatives, grapefruit seed extract, and organic vegetables, fruits, meats and mostly fish. She listens to her body. INtegrative therapies have been working for her and other clients of mine.

In our great and wonderful country, this so-called health care system is really a sick care system and needs to be modified - something we who are aware of alternatives know. I'm tired of the governmental invasions of our sanctity and privacy concerning our choices of health care.

For the Hauser family, I pray that Colleen and Danny are strong and can see their way gently and safely through the technological, chemical and legal mire and that Danny gets the best possible treatment to help him heal and be free of cancer. The choice should be up to the family.

This woman most certainly has her son's best interests at heart, but as has been pointed out, she sure didn't do her homework before "choosing" to treat her son "naturally." As a mother, I wouldn't think twice about running away with my child if I didn't agree with what doctors wanted to do and they went after me in court. But I'm also a Hospice nurse, and I'd make damn sure whatever treatment I wanted for my child has been proven effective, not just the snake oil of a known, convicted con artist. I've SEEN what happens when people reject conventional medicine without knowing what the heck they are doing, and I've seen people who've done everything by the book and survived many more years than they would have without treatment, but one thing remains perfectly clear: cancer is evil, and kills most of it's victims sooner or later. I know several cancer survivors who went with conventional medicine, I don't know a single one who "cured their own cancer" with natural methods, except maybe Suzanne Somers (did I spell that right?), but I don't know what she REALLY did. And Hodgkin's disease is one form that is highly curable when caught early - but not if you wait too long, as this family tried to do. Remember, that 36% rate stated by Dr Mercola encompasses ALL cases of Hodgkin's disease, not just the ones that were caught early. If you look at just those, the survival rate goes way up, and that is good enough reason not to allow a 13 year old to make this decision for himself, or his parents when they are as ignorant as these ones are.

At this point, it seems the only strategy to have a free society is to vote Libertarian. All of the laws that take away our freedom and the judges that enforce them, are all enacted and enforced by Democrats and Repbublicans.
