In the case of strength training, less is indeed more. As pointed out by Dr. Mercola, it's important to do fewer sets but with greater intensity - to muscle failure. Lifting weights sufficiently heavy to produce muscle failure in 6-10 repetitions is a totally different experience from lifting many sets of light weights to boredom. Most people tend to train way too often and too long resulting in needless exertion and injuries. I started out with only three full body workouts a week each lasting about 30 minutes. I am now down to only two super slow workouts per week each lasting only about 15 to 20 minutes. One workout is upper body and the other lower body.

A living testament to a proper, life long exercise and diet program is 90 year old Bob Delmonteque. He still has a mind blowing body that most 20 year olds would die for. See the photos posted on his web site documenting his progress until the age of 80. He keeps looking better with age!

re: What Surprising Exercise Cuts Your Cancer Risk by 40 Percent?

/Sigh. I wonder about cancer incidence rather than cancer death as an outcome variable, and also the genetic and personality differences because 'building" muscle and "having' muscle are different. Testosterone differences would be interesting. Note also that it is men only and we all know about this problem. Nevertheless, overall results are another potential reason to balance out our exercise programs, and I appreciate the little extra push. I do three but I tend to avoid the core, which is my worse area. So, as usual, I like Mercola's support and guidance.

If you build muscle through weight training and it promotes apoptosis (programmed cell death) then it means your body would have to make new ones that use up your limited supply of cellular Telemorase and once that is gone your dead. I don't know if it is possible but I would hope that we can absorb Telemorase as a nutrient in our blood from destroying cancer cells since cancer cells create an infinite supply. It would then make sense that we would then need a healthy balance of cancer within to achieve a steady supply of Telemorase if we could easily destroy it through exercise. Any scientists up for researching this?

I took up rebounding and have rebuilt completely my left leg...I can stand on either leg for up to 20-30 min or more now (just standing on 1 leg like a flamingo! or doing the Yoga Candle position) In addition I have much more strength in my back and arms - I NEVER get backaches or any aches anymore from gardening - Well, I am also very conscious of maintaining my pH balanced and of eating more and more vegetables and just a little meat or fish the way our grandparents used to eat. Sugar & dairy went the way of the dodo bird and so did bread/noodles/rice altho I still do eat some millet crackers for breakfast with avocados, tomatoes, sprouts and seed cheese. and I still do eat farm eggs...At 62 I feel GREAT....a lot better than ten yrs ago when I was eating differently and not exercising enough....
