We have to remember that the widspread use of Cancer causing DDT in the united states from 1942 till 1972 was the primary cause of the spike in breast cancer in America.

As the residual affects of this chemical ebb from the planet the breast cancer rate should ease.

It is important to note thta the primary Crop for which DDT was used in the US was Cotton. Almost 95 % of all DDT sprayed in US was to advance cotton production.

Areas surounding cotton production facilities and farms and their watersheds are the primary hot beds of breast cancer.

The rise in the use of alternate fabrics, safer farming practices , and most importantly, the ban on the usee of DDT in the US in 1972 are a big part of the decline in US breats cancer rates.

Wow, this article is filled with such facts and a common-sense approach to health. Thank you.

I am a 54 year old woman and at the age of 42 was told I was going into menopause. Of course, my body had begun to change and things were happening that were baffling to me. I was immediately put on Premarin--and hated it. I took it for maybe 2 months and took myself off of it at the chagrin of this very young doctor. At that time, the late Dr. Charles Lee was holding seminars in Marin County in California. Marin County had the highest rate of breast cancer in the country. Its residents are touted for being very affluent, highly educated and being exposed to the best medical care. Women were gettting mammograms every six months and taking Premarin. It became a social conversation among the residents. However, for me, I have always sought a more holistic approach towards my health; and when Dr. Lee held seminars, my husband and I attended. My husband has a double-degree in Chemistry and Biology and I have a degree in Social Science with an emphasis in biology. We were not buying the Premarin treatment, and I did not like crawling up walls when I took it. I became unfamiliar to me; became very jumpy and extremely agitated. I knew this was not for me. I threw it away and researched a holistic approach and regulated my menopause via that approach. I continued with my doctors to make sure I was on the right tract.

At this time, I also regulate my exposure to mammograms. I was among the 6% who were given a false-positive for my first mammogram, and it was extremely disconcerting. However, taking a cautious approach towards the exposure of mammograms is a bit more frightening to me because one needs to know the thermography of their breasts; so I cautiously withhold the mammography approach.

I am thankful for having Dr. Lee then and Dr. Mercola now. Thank you.

Cancer isn't the only problem caused by high levels of estrogen. I started taking the birth control pill about 5 years ago and in less than 2 weeks my body didn't feel right. A month and a half later I was diagnosed with Mysathenia Gravis, an autoimmune disorder that can cause severe muscle weakness. I stopped taking "the pill" right away and funnily enough started getting better right away. I haven't had symptoms since about 4 months after that - I'm guessing it took that long for my hormones to balance themselves out again. Of course the neurologists deny that "the pill" had anything to do with it whatsoever.

I am convinced that it is dangerous for women to alter their hormones with pharmaceuticals. There are so many other ways for us to find hormonal balance naturally (try nutririon first!), without the risk of cancer, heart problems or autoimmune disorders.

You cannot make the statement that the WHI results led to lowering of breast cancer as it was not published till 2002 and the cancer rates were from 1990 to 2005. It takes about 5-7 years for breast cancer to become manifest.

Thus you cannot conclude that stopping HRT had anything to do with lowering breast cancer rates over that 15 year period.

I remember long ago reading about hormones ruining male crocodiles, and now about it getting into our water supplies. We really need to figure out something to get rid of this stuff. Yes, get the FDA to chase this instead of vitamins, what silliness..

All this parallels male circumcision. The African studies touting circumcision as a vaccine against HIV are just the latest effort to keep to keep on circumcising. This is also called the "Pony Express". The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is supplying 5 million dollars to circumcise 650,000 males. They are doing this to create a wave that will keep on moving just as HRT has done. Gates is paying high wages to doctors in Africa which lowers medical care regionally as this leaves many patients without good doctors. These doctors are bought with high wages to do what Gates wants and that is to circumcise regardless that NO medical organization in the world recommends male circumcision, even Israel. Money is power and that power has further bought WHO, the World Health Organization, PSI, USAID. The truth is the foreskin is the first line of defense against disease and is part of the immune system. What these unscrupulous doctors would have us believe is that the foreskin harbors Langerhans cell that permit HIV entry into the body when it is fact that Langerhans cells (part of the immune system where ever there is mucosa) secretes Langerin which directly kills HIV. Further there are twice as many Langerhans cell in the tonsils so why don't they equally recommend and pay for tonsillectomies? The PR from HIV/circ African studies is regular occuring and hard selling by omitting the substaintial confounding flaws, only touting positives to circ. It is common knowledge, pure PROPAGANDA 101, to bring in those with titles after their name, form a committee (and make it sound legit), then offer their opinion--nevermind if they are being paid by all kinds of corporations... all that matters is that they have 'credibility' based on their titles...

"Propaganda" by E. Bernays should open your mind to how manipulation has been working since we were fooled into engaging into WW1 for profit and control (of us by others).

Hi lovely people, my heart is burned everytime I come across such information. Dont you think they control us, control population rate and dont you think thry work closely with government who allow them to do whatever they want for 2 reasons; first the individuals in the governemt responsible for making laws and desisions dont know much about human health and secons reason they dont want you anymore after you are age of 50 your potential is reduced and now you are becoming ballast to the society.

My questions is for how long we will witness them poisoning us and shatting our mouth and one by one destroying doctors and practitioners who born to work for public and study rest of their life to help improve or rather correct individual's body to run well. We should unite go out and shout even greater than public does in the IRAN now. Dont you think the more we wait the more nature getting spoiled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are safer alternatives to HRT - I myself use a herbal form where estrogen is extracted from plants. Due to the fact that I had to have a hysterectomy in my late 20's, and was left with only one ovary, when I got to my mid to late 30's, I found myself going through what seemed to be menopausal symptoms. I had seen what premarin had done to my mothers health (none of it good), I opted to try for a herbal suppliment and I am glad that I did.

Interestingly, in my early to mid 20's, I was injected monthly with "Depo-Provera" due to a hormonal inbalance and a rather large collection of lumps in my breasts. The Depo Provera actually got rid of the lumps, and never did they return. There were other reasons why this drug was chosen as it was also helpful in dealing with the extreme pain I suffered from endometriosis. It was a combination of factors that lead to my hystorectomy. I must admit though, that during the time I was given the monthly injections of Depo Provera, I was monitored very closely by my physician. Blood tests were taken regularly, along with breast examinations to ensure that the lumps that were found there were going away. Which they did. ALL of them. After my hystorectomy, the Depo Provera injections were no longer used.

I've NEVER had a mammogram. I've always refused. Since I am very slender and carry little body fat, I have small breasts. People with small breasts do NOT have a happy time with a mammogram. My mother, who was also slender and small breasted at the time swore she was never going to have one after the only one she ever went in for. They squashed her so hard her breasts were bruised. I decided then and there that I would never allow that to happen to me, as it occurred to me that squashing breasts that hard, and then irradiating them was proboboly not good for them.

Interestingly, years after that decision was made by me.... I began to read that regular mammograms seemed to increase the rate of breast cancer.

I agree that cancer rates are not decreasing. I have been a PA in Family Practice for 15 years and have seen a significant increase not only in Breast Cancer but Colon, Pancreastic, Brain and many other Cancers in women and men, especially the younger population. I befieve it is more a combination of the toxins and chemicals we are exposed to daily in the environment / foods and the lack of nutrition in the average person's diet preventing the body and immune system to function optimally. Side effects from medications are just another added detriment. It will only get worse as the environment becomes more toxic. The sad part is, most people do not care enough about their health until it is adversly affected.

I have followed most of Dr. Mercola's advice on many things for many years. I have to strongly disagree about the so called "saftey" of the bioidentical hormones. It does not matter whether hormones are made from plants or animals, pills, patches or creams. There is nothing natural about a conjugated form of homone. If it is produced in a lab and not in your own body it is not free of dangerous side effects. Thanks to people like Susan Summers ( who has no medical or scientific background ) many more women are taking the "natural " approach to HRT for menopause, and ending up with breast cancer, like myself.

The insurance companies won't pay for a mammogram, also, I asked the tech that was doing my mammogram why they did not do thermagrams and her answer was "in the event something showed up on the scan they would still need to do a mammogram" and she left it at that. I had to have 2 unnecessary breast biopies because of mammograms, those places scare me to death...I hope I don't cave in and have another mammogram to save the $190 it costs in my area to have a thermagram.
