Are these metabolites present because of obesity, or insulin resistance? or contrariwise might these metabolites be causative in both obesity and insulin resistance?

At least one of the metabolites found in that urine is also a metabolite of collagen, and has been demonstrated as a causative agent in changing prostate cancer to agressive metastatic cancer, and high concentrations of it (methylaminoacetic acid) can be taken as indicative that prostate cancer will be metastatic and agressive. So, this may be driving both obesity and agressive cancer. But is this caused by using non-stick cookware, rinsing agents in dishwashers, or is this caused by collagen being metabolized? What are the causal links?

America is a country where 'the salmon are always running and berries are everywhere.' But as one contributor said about Auschwitz, when the time of scarcity and starvation comes, no one is fat.

Fasting spas don't report any fat people who unable to lose weight. Fasting, of course, should always be done under professional supervision because a reasonably large subset of fat people can be harmed by prolonged fasting. But when done properly, a water fast will produce weight loss in anyone. And it occurs in nature and has occurred for millions of years across all species so it is not unnatural or even unhealthy. It even has an added benefit that all spiritual traditions have recognized from the beginning: spiritual cleansing as well.

There are many good books and competent professionals out there. Go for it.

Congratulations on linking the bodybuilding connection to the issue of loosing weight/fat.

It may be too late to get any feedback from you since this topic is already some days old and posts are dwindling.

You don't reveal your bodyfat %

I am 67 and started bodybuilding 10 years ago. Whilst I was able to build a satisfactory level of muscle for my age (I trained 3 sessions of 1 hour/week) my body fat, and particularly fat around my midriff, stubbornly refused to drop below 18.5% (often as high as 20%).

I put this down to diet. However recently (April '09) I discovered Kelley Eidem's Candida Hub Pages: snipurl.com/flattentummy

In common with others who tried this, nothing much happened for the first few months. Then the fat started to melt away, stubborn 'love handles' vanished and my midriff flattened to a degree I had not seen in over 20 years! My body fat went down to 14.7%. Here are the supplements I used:

- Source Naturals (Wellness Range) OLIVE LEAF - (1 tab. morning - 1 tab. evening), yielding a total of 150mg Oleuropein

- Now Foods CAPRYLIC ACID - (1 cap. morning - 1 cap. evening), yielding a total of 1200 mg Caprylic Acid

- Source Naturals LIFE FLORA - (1 cap. morning - 1 cap evening), yielding a total of 6 billion cells Acidophilus/Bifidus Complex

- Nature's Best (UK company) L-GLUTAMINE powder: (5 grams morning - 5 grams evening) - well stirred in 1/2 small glass warm water

NOTE: For the first 10 days of treatment only HALF the above dose of all the supplements (morning only) - total duration of course 10WEEKS

ADDITIONAL POST TREATMENT BENEFITS NOTICED:

- Recurrent red 'pinpoint' v.itchy rash on lower legs/ankles cleared up completely

- Recurrent Itchiness in ears ditto

- Recurrent 'Athlete's Foot' ditto

- V.loose stools became firm (but without any constipation whatsoever)

- Bad (smelly) flatulence cleared up - IS 'IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME' JUST A SYMPTOM OF CANDIDA OVERGROWTH??

Each person is an individual, and has individual needs; what works for one may, or may not, work for another. Even if a lifestyle works, some of them only go so far, or do not totally finish "the job".

I am speaking from the heart. I have been overweight since I was a child, and only recently have gotten my weight under control; I however am still considered overweight, just no longer obese. When people ask me how I lost the weight, I am hesitant to tell them because what worked for me may not be the right choice for them. I tell people, focus on your overall health, because being healthy is allot better than being thin. (I can say this without hypocrisy because my weight loss is in direct connection to my quest for better health.)

I am not going back to him! I know a good doctor when I get one and I do have a good internist, but it is very difficult to find one today. Our medical system is all terrible and You really can't blame some of the doctors.Any way I am still looking and I know when I get my thyroid in control I will be able to lose the 30 lbs. Ive been trying to lose.

Calories -in-calories-out is still and will be true forever.

However, it is not easy to measure calories-out part of the equation, which is supposed to be energy spent.

Most of us substitute work produced for energy spent, since the former is easy to measure by the most of heart rate monitors, treadmills or estimate by duration and intensity of exercise. However, energy spent and work produced can be 3x times different from each other and ratio is never a constant.

During exercise our body adjusts and becomes more efficient in spending energy (see example about a marathon runner in Dr. Mercola's original article). Our bodies become really efficient: they turn into survival mode. This is a trap for those who want to control our weight by exercising.

Conclusions:

in order to lose weight --

-- change your exercise routine to make your body suffer;

-- realize that more exercise you do -- more appetite you have.

Sorry for bitter truth, but it is life. Do you really what this kind of life?

I've never had a "weight" problem, until I was FORCED to take prescribed drugs. Horrible pain, ugly edema, joint pain, internal bleeding, organ damage, etc. Many, many drugs have the adverse reaction of "weight gain". We wonder why the obesity numbers keep rising as our drug use spirals to obscene numbers. Of course, the medical industry has stolen any way for me to live, so you won't have to worry about me for long. And don't expect to lose weight the first day that the prescription goes into the trash - these drugs stay into a person system for a very long time, and a person's body needs a great deal of time to repair the damage.

In this one-size-fits-all, fast-everything, brainless, greed is good, "The Secret" society, we also need to pay attention to individual allergies, adverse reactions, environmental pollution, emotional stresses and who knows what else. It's time for a change in our society and I believe the Obama puppet is going 180 degrees toward the wrong direction - for our sanity, financial security, our country's security, and especially for our health. Unfortunately, the websites (that we are paying for through the government) do not have any way to communicate to the bureaucratics that are pushing us into the furnaces.

I have recently been humiliated by a doctor who told me that there is no way I will NOT lose weight if I eat much less and exercise a lot more. it is all a matter of calories. I have Hashimotos Disease, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes and Osteoporosis. I cannot exercise if you pay me! For the past two years I have been on a high protein diet. I don't lose much weight on it, but I feel great, and my hands and face aren't as swollen (myxoedema?) as on a high carb diet. I have tried everything. From exercising too much (when I still could) and eating too little, combined with every diet you can think of. But my body is happy on the high protein diet. And ... I have my diabetes totally under control without any medication.

I fired that doctor.
