Are you one of them? Does exercise always get bumped to the bottom of your list of things to do? The problem may have nothing to do with time – it might just be that you hate exercise

re: 13 Tips to Actually Enjoy Exercising

Good advice, I like the short bursts a lot, especially when spontaneous. Unfortunately for me, such things tend to occur on concrete sidewalks alongside traffic, neither ideal for health, ha. Probably running up a grass hill away from traffic surrounded by tree shade is ideal.

It's so much easier than spending time going to a gym or outside when the Northern Indiana's weather's bad. You can do alot without any exercise equipment or a gym!

Walking somewhere I need to go, or taking my bike is the only way I can manage to "make" myself exercise... A gym-like setting seems too artificial. Running around with your kids, gardening, taking care of the house - all that is exercise too, isn't it?

We've picked up an exercise bike with a display for speed, time, heart rate etc. for $30, an adjustable exercise bench with leg exercise attachment for $15, and an adjustable walking machine for free. Those are Australian dollars btw. We only really use them in the winter as we're out walking a lot in the summer, which is just about here in Oz.

It's wonderful - catching the morning rays when the sun is at that lovely, watery, fresh stage; the world shimmering with dew, the birds just finishing their morning chorus, the air crisp and fresh. It's lovely.

Then, after a day in the office, walking home in the golden setting rays... it's especially nice at this time of year, you can smell the evening fires and smell casseroles cooking in the houses. The air has that lovely cool feeling to it again, the birds are all settling down for the night, there might even be a faint mist setting in.

It's so good for the soul, I love it. Even if I had a car I'd still walk.

And if it's one of those days, I'll have my MP3 player going with some nice upbeat music on to sing along to. I spend my life around music though, interviewing bands, reviewing gigs and albums, with my friends who are all in bands. So it's nice to just listen to the sounds of 'silence' every now and then.

re: 13 Tips to Actually Enjoy Exercising

As someone who has attended and worked hard, three times a week in a gymn... for the last seven years, I would say that the social interaction is of equally great benefit to many there, as well as the huge physical/mental impovements attainable.
Once you have seen and experienced the benefits ...say after 4-6 weeks, you will never want to 'sit and rot' again....BUT, you do have to put in the effort, as with all in life, for the return.
Of course, there are just as many excuses for not doing enough exercise....as there are for not eating correctly, or being fat....but as someone who is in better shape than most half my age, halted avascular necrosis in its tracks and depression .....I know from personal experience, the huge benefits.
....If you have "no time to exercise"...then presumambly none for watching any T.V. either?!:)

re: 13 Tips to Actually Enjoy Exercising

Interesting article and good advice, especially if you live close to a gym.
But find what interests you.

Mary

re: 13 Tips to Actually Enjoy Exercising

I love music, and so for me, I use a portable satellite radio receiver. Love it, love it, love it.
