By far the most dangerous "baby product" on the market is vaccinations. Vaccines may contain traces of protein from dry milk, eggs, beef, rabbit, peanut oil, soy oil, sesame oil. corn oil, wheat germ oil, fish oil, shellfish oil.....

And none of this needs to appear on the label. It is protected as a secret ingredient under trade law.

A very good skin products company that I don't see mentioned by anyone is Aubrey Organics (www.aubrey-organics.com). Dr. M sells some of their suncare products in his store. I have used several of their products and they are excellent. No chemicals, only "Aubrey's preservative" (vitamins and grape seed extract). They are good quality, and not too expensive. My mother had used some of the fancier brands of face cremes, then I got her an Aubrey creme and she has used nothing else since.

Arbonne uses an ingredient that has been linked to breast cancer in women.

I'm a mom of a boy with really dry skin who has been using lotions with organic essential oils for his 3 years so I was really upset to read New England Journal of Medicine: Lavender and Tea Tee Oils Linked to Breast Growth in Boys. National Institutes of Health conducted experiments which report that, "tests showed both oils may boost estrogen and inihibit androgens". Of course it's nothing like the above mentioned chemicals, but I was surprised by these findings and thought I'd share. They were found on About.com

There is a product called ARBONNE which sells Baby products, cosmetics, vitamins, etc. that are all natural. They talk about all the ingredients that are put in baby products, cosmetics and other things that we should not put in our bodies. Go to their web page or talk to one of their consultants and you can find out that they advise clients of this problem since their products are all natural. I was surprised about all the stuff that is allowed to be put in the products that we use daily.

It took an ARBONNE consultant to make me aware. P.S. Their products are great without all that bad stuff.

this is great information that all parents should know about. So many products are greenwashed and people need to know exactly what their putting on their children. I know, as a mother of 3 i did alot of research on this and i recoomend you do the same. I use miEssence products on myself, as well on my children and found some great information on their website about ingredients and toxic chemicals used in other products

I tried this web site, skin deep, and it truley is unbelievable. I check everything there first before I buy it for me or my children. Everyone should at least look at this site to see for yourself.

Who uses Desitin enough for it to get into baby's body in high enough levels to be toxic? When my kids were little I used Desitin sparingly. I usually used petroleum jelly. My kids just never had many problems with diaper rash. They would get it occasionally, but not all the time. I never used Desitin, petroleum jelly, or any other product daily on my kids. I used regular soap on baby at bath time (I couldn't afford baby soaps, detergents, or shampoos). I just used mild soaps on my kids.

I think this is another case where moderation is the key. Anything you put on the skin can be absorbed (including the city tap water you bathe in!) as it is our largest organ, but we must use common sense. I wash with a commercial soap, at times, but I rinse almost immediately after washing with it. Ditto for shampoo. I use petroleum jelly on my lips in the winter when they get too dry. I don't wear colognes, use facial cleansers, or other "personal" products other than a deodorant. I do use lotion on my hands when they get dry in winter, but not on a regular basis (daily).

I am so glad I switched stores for my home and personal care products! I have three children under the age of 4, and the first thing I heard about when I started learning about all the toxic chemicals we are exposing ourselves and our families to was that there is formaldehyde in some popular brands of baby shampoo. Formaldehyde! Yuk! I keep learning more and more about the danger and I believe that as folks like us on Dr. Mercola‘s site are educating ourselves and others, we will see some real changes in the way the big companies are manufacturing and marketing their products. The world is waking up!
