Further, prescribing antibiotics to sinus patients may cause harm by increasing their resistance to the medications.
I have had severe symptoms of chronic sinus infection for over two years. I finally started a course of antibiotics and I feel well finally.

You should not use sea salt for sinus irrigation because it may contain fish excrement and it also contains minerals.

One is, using Colloidal Silver spray 3 times a day can get you over a sinus infection in 24 hours, or less. From what I've read about Colloidal Silver, it's effective against both bacteria and fungus. I've had great success with using it, both for sinus infections and to help get over a cold.

Also, someone was asking about probiotics. Yes, they're good for both restoring normal flora after taking antibiotics, and for general health. If you drink any water with chlorine in it (ie, any tap water that isn't from your own well), or if you ever eat any sugar or junk food, or if you've ever taken antibiotic, chances are your intestinal flora isn't what it should be. We routinely use probiotics. If we've had chlorinated water or have been to a Christmas party and ate sugary stuff, we will take probiotic for several days in a row. The rest of the time, we just take it about once a week.

Happy New Year!

Also as long as your head is positioned as advised, you should not have to worry about ear flooding (which may involve ear infection) AND you will have to move your head in ways (side to side, or on angle. Be careful) that will allow (treated) water (that has gotten to the back areas) to drain out after rinsing is done. A pot is based on gravity and if you are impacted with mucus will need more of a push than gravity to help clear out the gunk. I listed the rubber cap to the pik untensil as Grossman. It is Grossan (named after the Doctor who invented it) and I apologize for the mispelling. No use of antibiotics should be considered without speaking with your PCP, or ENT. Your PCP may not be familiar with use in sinus irrigation and probably write you a script for an antibiotic. If you find it does not work, you need to address it locally (not systemically). If you go to an ENT who ALSO wants to write a(nother) script, you could ask if he sees (he should have tried looking at your sinuses already) an infection? If he does you could ask he 'places' an antibiotic (there are 2, or 3. Bactroban is a widely used topical. It now comes in small tubes which you squirt into your nares and then rub them together. It also comes in a compound so you can squirt it further in) back into the sinus area. He may plug your nose up and ask you to keep your head level for awhile. Done again the next week. You should feel better the next day. He may have to drain mucus out first to give the 'ab' a better chance to work. Also, NEVER use Gentamycin (Garamycin) by CHOICE. It is also known as the 'bleach of all antibiotics'. It can destroy your sense of balance and/or add/increase tinnitus (noise/sounds in the head) levels. It is contraindicated as a POST sugical rinse (they apply an antibiotic after surgery). Use any rinse AFTER you have healed. It can be weeks to heal. A rinse is topical (not systemic).

Taking antibiotics will actually increase yeast, fungi and mold growth. So if a person wants to ensure the return of their sinus infection, antibiotics is the way to go.

I've had sinus problems all my life. I get a stuffed up nose and sniffle and blow my nose a lot. It is more annoying than anything else. Before Christmas I tried the products at

www.sinusinfectiondiscovery.com to see if I could get relief.

I followed the procedure suggested and lo and behold my sinuses and my nose were free from mucus and being stuffed up for about 10 days. From the looks of it I will need to make use of the products about once a week. This stuff really works.

PS: I do not know or a have any financial interest in the products sold on that site. I just found that it worked really well for me.

(Doctor is an allergist and immune system specialist: she also prescribed probiotics, saline rinses, and prednisone on a tapering off schedule). She has been on the antibiotic and prednisone for 2 weeks and we see a huge difference. So somethimes it does work, when it is appropriate. This is the first antibiotic she has had since she was maybe 5 years old. We (and her previous doctors) thought the mucus was just from her regular respiratory allergy. But I have an allergy too and her level of misery was much greater than mine for the last 2-3 years or so. Now I feel like a bad parent for not realizing there was something more wrong!

In the hopes of preventing this from occurring again, can someone go over anti-fungal and anti-bacterial treatments that can be done at home? Any supplements especially helpful? Someone mentioned MSM for the sulfur. Any other sulfur sources? Are the proboitics just for restoring the intestinal flora after the antibiotic has killed them , or for general health? Thanks!

MSM is also useful for arthritis, snoring and constipation. Most folks eat only cooked food, so there is no MSM in their diet. Do the research and remember to start slowly with low dosage as the body will detox with MSM.
