Wait a minute, we've had pasteurized and homogenized milk for decades, and (unfortunately) I grew up on the stuff. I am not saying that it's better for us, because it is not. What I am saying is the near epidemic of crohn's disease is a more recent thing. I tend to think that rBGH is responsible, with the increased amount of bacteria in the milk, even through the pasteurization process, is responsible for the crohn's disease, more so.

My question is, if crohn's IS caused by this bacterium, how do you get rid of the bacterium? I have had Crohns for 17 years. I have done many of the things suggested, including raw milk (after a long time of NO dairy), no grains or sugars, coconut oil, making my own yogurt, etc. etc. These have all helped in managing it, but ultimately, my crohns is always there (and comes back with a vengence from time to time)! Well, I may have found an answer, but with the nature of the ups and downs of Crohns, time will tell. I have only been taking this for 2 weeks, but it is very powerful: MMS (Miracle Mineral Supplement), which is sodium chlorite. It kills all pathogens in your body. Jim Humble first started using it to cure malaria. (see www.miraclemineral.org) I didn't know if it would affect my Crohns, but since we don't know the cause or cure, I figured it couldnt hurt as there is no danger to healthy cells. You have to know how to handle it and administer it, but it is not difficult. I just read this article here on tainted milk and found that very interesting since I'm experimenting with the MMS. It gives me hope! (My first results have been a flattening of my tummy, even though I wasn't bloated, and eating carbs without problems!)

"Raw milk is often the whipping boy for illness caused by other foods. Health officials publicize a 'link' between raw milk and illness on little or no proof and ignore much more likely vectors of illness, such as salads or deli meats. They can find a 'link' between raw milk and illness by asking victims about raw milk consumption and not about other foods they have consumed."

Fallon notes that In September, 2003, the FDA, USDA and CDC jointly released a report comparing the risk of listeriosis carried by various foods. On a per-serving basis, this report estimated that deli meats are 10.8 times more dangerous than raw milk and that non-reheated hot dogs are 9.2 times more dangerous than raw milk. Since deli meats are so commonly consumed, on an absolute basis they carry 515 times as great a risk as raw milk.

Furthermore, two people recently died in Massachusetts from listeria in pasteurized milk. "Where are the government warnings to avoid deli meats, hot dogs and pasteurized milk?" asks Fallon. "Only raw milk is singled out as a menace."

The letter from the Governor's office also states that "raw milk sold for direct human consumption is illegal in all or part of 42 states."

"Once again, the state of California is lying to the public," say Fallon. "Raw milk may legally be sold in over 30 states and may be sold in stores in eight states. California citizens whose health depends on access to raw milk deserve fair and accurate statements from public servants, not lies and misinformation."

The new standard passed by the Legislature in AB 1735, without hearings or debate, sets a maximum amount of beneficial probiotic coliform bacteria at no more than 10 bacteria per mL in milk sold raw to the consumer. If enforced, AB 1735 could make raw milk unavailable because coliform bacteria-which are harmless-multiply rapidly when milk is machine bottled.

Just before AB 1735 took effect, January 1, 2007, the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund filed a lawsuit in San Benito County. Part of that lawsuit requests an injunction which would legally protect raw milk producers against enforcement of AB 1735 standards. In addition, a new law will be introduced in January reversing AB 1735.

"AB 1735 unfairly targets raw milk and is not necessary for public safety," says Taaron Meikle, president of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. "The two raw milk dairies in California have a superlative safety record."

The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) defends the sale of raw milk and other farm products directly to the public. In states where raw milk sales are illegal, FTCLDF helps farmers provide raw milk to consumers through cow-boarding and herd-sharing contractual agreements.

We are the only mammals who drink other mammals milk after we are weaned. Lots of the populations in the world do not drink milk. Milk is designed to make a calf born about 50 lbs become 200+ lb in due course. All the clients I worked on (aromatherapy/reflexology) who had osteoporosis were all big milk drinkers in their youth, where I've never willingly injested dairy produce milk/cheese/yoghut etc and have no problem. Same applied to Late Onset Diabetes people, big milk drinkers. That used to puzzle me as the one connective thing for all of them.

Thanks for this article! I'm going to consciously cut way down on milk products (I've already gone mostly organic), and will definitely look more into raw milk from naturally raised animals who are treated nicely. I'm pretty healthy, but once in a while I have a few days in a row of feeling anxious and it triggers low back pain, and so far I cannot find the cause. Still searching. Thanks Dr. M. for tons of great advice. It's helping me to change my life and things are looking up.

Excellent article, please inform us more on this, we have family members with Crohn's and we also are dairy farmers. We have drank raw milk all our lives, and the people who have Crohn's have been drinking pasterized milk.

I grew up drinking RAW milk. As a kid, i drank raw milk as much as reg. water. It must be good! Of all the falls/accidents I had-no bones broken. Later in life, no more RAW , drank processed milk, my body could not handle it, so I quit. Love cheese alot!, so--I replaced it, instend of reg.milk. Thanxs. for your comments.

The State of California just passed a law concerning bacteria counts in raw milk. I e mailed my good friend Ahnold and received this reply which I am posting below complete without comment;

Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts with Governor Schwarzenegger on the passage of Assembly Bill 1735. The Governor truly appreciates your input on this bill.

Since coming into office, the Governor has made it his top priority protect the health and wellness of all Californians, whether it's cleaning up poor air quality or providing for effective healthcare.

Raw milk has been known to be a source of foodborne illness for decades. For example, in September 2006, the California Department of Public Health linked six cases of infection with the deadly E. coli O157:H7 to the consumption of raw milk. The median age of the victims was 8 years old. In recent years, illness outbreaks have been attributed to raw milk consumption in several states. In fact, raw milk sold for direct human consumption is illegal in all or part of 42 states.

The new standard passed by the Legislature in AB 1735 sets a maximum amount of coliform bacteria at no more than 10 bacteria per mL in milk sold raw to the consumer. This level is consistent with both national and international public health and food safety requirements for pasteurized dairy products.

The standard does not ban raw milk, but serves as an indicator of cleanliness and sanitation on facilities that produce and distribute the product to California consumers. Strict sanitation is especially important when pasteurization is not utilized to ensure harmful bacteria are not present in milk. Milk sold raw to consumers has been held to the same total bacteria count standard as pasteurized milk for more than sixty years. The addition of a coliform standard fills the gap in public health protection and ensures that such products are as safe as possible for all Californians.

I miss raw milk. :-( It's available in Washington state, but not Ohio, where I currently live. The best I can do is UNhomogenized/rBST free. Until this video I didn't even know that pasteurization exposed the immune system to those foreign proteins from the bacteria, but it makes sense. I think I will try to give up dairy for now until I have access to a clean raw source.

I feel it that anyone who knows a lot about health and cures is morally responsible to tell the uninformed about it as it could drasically change the other person's life. Why not share the wealth of good health with everyone and at least get them thinking in a fresh new way. A lot of people simply do not question the SAD diet and mainstream beliefs because they have never been encouraged to question it. I like to encourage this! It is so wonderful to see what can open another's mind and get them to take action to get themselves on the track to good health!!! Life really is a journey and some of those people will come back and help you with your journey when you need it!!!!

I have had ulcerative colitis for almost 23 years. I nearly died of it 4 times. But now, I do homeopathy, energy work and also found Jini Patel Thompson's book "Listen To Your Gut" to be extremely helpful. She "cured" her chron's disease with diet and changes of her lifestyle and thinking. Her products are very, very good. You can go on her Absorbplus shakes and stay alive while your gut heals. (Go to Absorbplus.com). I highly recommend her regime if you want to heal your colitis or chron's. She also has a way to get rid of the bacteria MAP (if that's what it is). You take Oil of Oregano and it gets rid of the bacteria. I am not on any drugs whatsoever, and can eat almost anything I wish. I am still careful with my diet because I don't want to cause a flareup.

We started day care with my son when he was one year old and he got sick all the time. It was really tough. After a few months we were lucky enough to find a source for raw milk and everything changed. He is now 4 years old and has been the healthiest kid in his classroom (he missed maybe 2 days of school over a 3 year period due to sickness).
