Great news for packers and runners...unless there is something else to worry about---any feedback? The articles I have seen negative commentary on only are concerned with BPA content from Nalgene.

This having been said, the quantity of Bisphenol A and other materials that leach from the plastic into a bottle freshly-filled with freshly-filtered water is probably immeasurably small.

Mineral water bottlers bottle their 'product' months or years in advance and bottles are often left in direct sun or hot warehouses for months at a time. Is it any wonder that the plasticizers find their way into the product.

I would say filling a plastic water bottle for use that day, say in a hike, is perfectly safe.

If I can smell the chemicals in the plastic and my water tastes funny from them, it can't possibly be safe. I don't care what the FDA or any other organization says to the contrary. God gave me the senses and the common sense (which isn't common!) to figure out on my own what I shouldn't be ingesting.

We were given personalized water bottles recently at work as a "reward" for a project. They stunk so badly that I don't know how anyone could seriously have thought of drinking from them. I gagged at the smell, and no amount of washing got rid of it.

Scroll to Dynamic Health (LVigor sells for almost every natural foods company out there) purchase their 32 oz aloe vera or healthy blend drinks (w/ goji, noni, org. berries, and other delightful juices) and that's what they come in. It's just a nice side benefit and the prices are great. HDPE and LDPE (high or low density polyethylene are considered the safest containers next to glass (until something else comes along).

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a known carcinogen and has phthalates added to make it flexible. Some of these are suspect endocrine disruptors, ie, they can have an effect on hormones even at minute doses. The manufacture and burning of PVC releases dioxins too, a problem for the whole ecosystem.

Polystyrene is a suspect carcinogen, and has an additive p-nonylphenol, an endocrine disruptor. It can take thousands of years to break down. I believe several local authorities in the US have banned use of polystyrene for food packaging.

More bisphenol-A leaches out of polycarbonate if exposed to heat and acidic food.

Being that I'm not Vegan, maybe I should start carrying a leather wine pouch to carry my water in, you know the ones with the spouted end and the long shoulder strap that Daniel Boone might have traveled with. I think they're still around. Any thoughts (from those who use leather)? Does anyone have any oppinion on ceramic? No such thing as ceramic forks and spoons that I could find.
