As we age, our bodies manufacture less hydrochloric acid, which means less digestive capabilities. The gluten in foods does produce gas, and if the affliction is too severe, switch to gluten-free grains, or discontinue using them all together.

Unfortunately, mainstream recommendations for indigestion are usually antacids - the opposite of what you need. I permanently cured a severe case of candida by taking a combination of zinc and hyrochlorid acid. Now I can eat what I like - fats, dairy, whatever.

You need the zinc to make H.acid, and the H.acid to utilise the zinc, so until everything gets back in balance again, you need to take both. Then just stay with the zinc.

Heavy foods such as meats and fried foods (which I do not feel should even be eaten at all) should be consumed last because they take much longer to digest. Melons are often eaten as a desert, which is a real invitation for digestive problems, because melons digest very quickly, therefore they should not be eaten at the end of a meal but first before anything else is consumed. Even better would be to eat them between meals when there is not other food in the stomach that will interfere with them.

The same can be said for all fruits, which should be consumed at the beginning of a meal, not at the end. Because they digest quicker than the heavier foods that you might be consuming. Also, some food combinations can make them harder to digest such as a rich Avocado with fresh fruit, yet each can be very beneficial if they are eaten separate so that they are not both trying to be digested at the same time.

So, aside from foods that you might be allergic to, a good dose of common sense will help a great deal. And yes, a cup of peppermint tea with fresh shredded ginger added, will help a great deal. That is the only hot drink I consume and is is very good for you.

Cheers,

Carl

Also, always eat fruit on an EMPTY STOMACH. Fruit is pre-digested and spoils quickly if plopped on top of other slower moving foods.

Read "Fit For Life" (popular 20 years ago - the best selling diet book of all time)

From Dr. Shelton:

The Nine Basic Rules of Proper Food Combining:

1. Eat acids and starches at separate meals. Acids neutralize the alkaline medium required for starch digestion and the result is fermentation and indigestion.

2. Eat protein foods and carbohydrate foods at separate meals. Protein foods require an acid medium for digestion.

3. Eat but one kind of protein food at a meal.

4. Eat proteins and acid foods at separate meals. The acids of acid foods inhibit the secretion of the digestive acids required for protein digestion. Undigested protein putrefies in bacterial decomposition and produces some potent poisons.

5. Eat fats and proteins at separate meals. Some foods, especially nuts, are over 50% fat and require hours for digestion.

6. Eat sugars (fruits) and proteins at separate meals.

7. Eat sugars (fruits) and starchy foods at separate meals. Fruits undergo no digestion in the stomach and are held up if eaten with foods that require digestion in the stomach.

8. Eat melons alone. They combine with almost no other food.

9. Desert the desserts. Eaten on top of meals they lie heavy on the stomach, requiring no digestion there, and ferment. Bacteria turn them into alcohols and vinegars and acetic acids.

Proper Food Combining Chart:

Don't think it's just those under developed countries close to the equator with poor water systems. They lurk, in plentitude, right here in the good- ol'- germaphobic-USA. Allopathic MD's are naive as to the damage they cause. Often, they overlook parasites as being a very potent metabolic disruptor because they are very difficult to diagnose using conventional lab techniques. They'll look for parasites if you've just returned from some exotic country. Parasites are often the primary source of some diseases like diabetes (parasites residing in the pancreas), failure to thrive in children, mental/psychiatric disturbances, cardiomyopathy. The list is endless because they can take up permanent residence in any organ or tissue raising the question "Who's hosting who?" Food for thought and for our parasites!
