Pure, unfermented grape juice is the best

Not having alcohol is one of them. So what if it is a neurotoxin. When you drink in moderation the benefits outweigh any risk. Plus, its so much fun!!!!!

It does make some sense to me.

It does calm you down, relax you, and maybe it does heap your heart; but I do believe that alcohol is a nerotoxin and for those who can have just 1 or two it might be OK.

But drinking on a daily or weekly basis might cause problems.

1 out of every 10 persons who drinks alcohol will become alcoholic; some do immediatly and some do after some time.

This is a major problem in our society.

The amount of AA meetings in my community and all the people who attend them is astounding.

I certainly would not advise someone to take a drink for their health, I side with Dr. M's opinion, but of coarse would not try to stop them.

It seems TV is also pushing this idea, as I have just heard it this morning.

As a recovering alcoholic I cannot even have 1 drink, I wish I could, but I absolutely cannot. I crossed that line many years ago.

Be very careful all who decide to start drinking for "better health".

AND LIFE IS A TERMINAL SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE.

lighten up people! we're all going to die in the end anyway, why not have a little fun in moderation on the way? the negative effects from a glass or two of wine are NOT going to seriously negatively affect your quality of life.

1. They are financed by those who profit from producing alcoholic beverages (That is why there are so many beer or wine studies and virtually no fresh carrot juice studies).

2. The selection of the two groups - alcohol drinkers and non-drinkers is another reason. If anyone randomly selects 1000 people drinking a little alcohol and 1000 people drinking no alcohol at all, there will be a large share of non-drinkers who do not drink because they are sick. They will not select 1000 healthy alcohol non-drinkers, will they? And this is self-explaining. As the non-drinker group will have more sick people, it will have a worse outcome. And the interpretation is clear - non-drinkers will have worse results/health/will be dying sooner NOT BECAUSE not drinking alcohol, but simply because they are sicker (and were so even before stopping drinking alcohol).

This whole "red wine" thing originated from studies of French people in general, who drink red wine every day, eat anything they want, often smoke cigarettes, and really enjoy breaking bread with friends. They also live years longer than Americans.

I believe the resveratrol was uncovered as a result of scientific studies of the French lifestyle. Just in case, I'll take my resveratrol before drinking my organic red wine. I won't be drink the wine before my challenging daily mountain bike rides, but I'll save it for after.

Mercola often seems overly stark and prudish, but I do give him credit for bringing up this topic.

There is so much more to taking good care of oneself than just exercise routines or living as a regimented tea-totaller. As a 65 year old, I find I do best on my version of an organic "cave man" diet, 45 minutes of mountain bike riding a day, a toxic-free environment, drinking a few glasses of organic red wine a week, not suffering fools gladly, following my intuition, living my life as a work in progress, loving "the good, the true, and the beautiful", developing and following my own custom chelation program, and so on.

All things considered, I have taken the responsibility for my own health. I am my own physician who is healing "thy self", and Mercola is a valuable information resource. And despite my idealistic lifestyle, I enjoy the fruits of being flexible, breaking my "rules" around 10% of the time. Try it, you'll like it (your own unique version, of course).
