Dr. Mercola, YOU were diagnosed with diabetes? I had to reread that twice. I never would have guessed, for I thought of you as someone with lifelong healthy diet and exercise habits.

If diabetes is caused by a miscommunication between cells, especially with regards to leptin signaling, could the cell phone and wireless boom be responsible for the increase in Type II diabetes?

I have severe electromagnetic hypersensitivity - in fact, I can feel when someone is using a cell phone or I am otherwise being exposed to artificial electromagnetic or microwave fields. My blood sugar and blood pressure both have increased in recent years, forcing me to adjust my diet.

Though dietary changes have helped, I don't think this consititutes a long term answer. When our bodies are receiving the appropriate 'signals' from the earth, without interference from things like cell phones, power lines, and wi-fi, we eat the appropriate foods, digest the nutrients needed, and expel the rest. Signaling is involved in detoxification as well.

My hunch is that diabetes is caused by cell phones and other manmade sources of electrosmog. It may be feasible to expect an adult to live by a strict diet, but today's kids were raised to grab food and go. Are today's kids going to have middle-age health damage by the age of 18?

Crops that have been genetically engineered to withstand herbicides made up 81% of the GE crops planted globally in 2006. 99% of the herbicide tolerant crops grown in the U.S. are "Roundup Ready". According to an

independent analysis of USDA data by former Board of Agriculture Chair of the National Academy of Sciences, Dr. Charles Benbrook, GE crops increased herbicide use in the U.S. by 122 million pounds - a 15-fold

increase - between 1994 (when GE herbicide-tolerant crops were introduced) to 2004.

"The law requires the government to take a hard look at the impact that deregulating Roundup Ready sugar beets will have on human health, agriculture and the environment," said Greg Loarie of Earthjustice. "The

government cannot simply ignore the fact that deregulation will harm organic farmers and consumers, and exacerbate the growing epidemic of herbicide-resistant weeds."

These herbicide-resistant weeds have spread rapidly over the past seven years, and experts agree that their proliferation is directly linked to the introduction of Roundup Ready crops, including soybeans, cotton and

corn. As recently as 2000, there were no documented cases of weeds resistant to glyphosate in the Corn Belt. Today, marestail, common and giant ragweed, waterhemp and Palmer pigweed are weeds with confirmed

resistance to glyphosate. Cocklebur, lambsquarters, morning glory, velvetleaf, and others are also proving tougher to kill. In total, Roundup-resistant weeds have been reported on 2.4 million acres of U.S. cropland.

The sugar produced by Roundup Ready beets, which may have greatly elevated levels of the herbicide glyphosphate, may be included in products ranging from candy to breakfast cereal to bread. At this point,

none of those products will require labeling of any kind to indicate the presence of sugar derived from Roundup Ready sugar beets.

GE sugar beets are wind pollinated, and there is a strong possibility

that pollen from Roundup Ready sugar beets could contaminate non-GE

sugar beets and important food crops such as chard, and red and yellow

beets (or "table beets"). Such biological contamination would also be

devastating to organic farmers, who face debilitating market losses if

their crops are contaminated by a GE variety. Contamination also reduces

the ability of conventional farmers to decide what to grow, and limits

consumer choice of natural foods.

According to Tom Stearns, President of High Mowing Seeds, "the issue of releasing GMO crops without serious research or oversight risks the security of our food supply and the economic viability of our nation's

non-GMO and organic farmers."

In addition to the risk of crop contamination, scientific studies have shown that applications of Roundup, a glyphosate-based herbicide, increase significantly when Roundup Ready crops are grown. Increased use

of this herbicide is instrumental in the creation of Roundup-resistant "super weeds".

"Contrary to the industry's mantra that these plants reduce chemical use, studies have shown that herbicide use actually _increases_ with the planting of Roundup Ready crops," said Kevin Golden, of the Center for

Food Safety. "Just as overuse of antibiotics eventually breeds drug resistant bacteria, overuse of Roundup eventually breeds Roundup-resistant weeds. When that happens, farmers are forced to rely on even more toxic herbicides to control those weeds."

Heat causes chemical to leach from plastic

"BPA is known as an "environmental estrogen" or "endocrine disruptor" because it can mimic the effect of sex hormones on the body, Belcher says. Belcher didn't test baby bottles or cans of infant formula, products that have generated perhaps the most concern about BPA's safety. Instead, Belcher — an avid climber and mountaineer — focused on plastic bottles that he and other hikers commonly use.

BPA isn't used in all bottles. It's found in polycarbonate plastic with a number 7 recycling code, a category that includes several types of plastics.

Though scientists haven't yet conducted definitive studies in people, animal tests show that BPA affects reproduction and brain development, Belcher says. Government tests have found BPA in 95% of people studied."

Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical within the plastic, has been linked to fertility problems, diabetes, breast cancer, hyperactivity and early puberty in girls."

The study, conducted by Dr Scott Belcher of Cincinnati University, found exposure to boiling water increased the release of the chemical by 55 times.

Reporting in the journal Toxicology Letters, Dr Belcher said: "It's not just baby bottles - people put tea or hot water in bottles all the time."

Think about this. Everyone has eaten various foods over generations, but these plastics are new, and health risks from using them are rising.

It is not just knowing what one should do to be healthy, but a willingness to deny yourself of the sweet taste you may have grown accustom to. I have spoken to numerous friends and relatives about diet changes that will improve their health, but they do not want to ‘give up’ their favorite foods. They think they can continue to eat as they wish, and their doctor will give them a pill to fix the problems later.

The right amount of high-quality protein (most people do not get enough, and the cheapest and most readily available are not high-quality), plenty of the right fats and oils (not the ones plentifully displayed on the supermarket shelves), plenty of fresh veggies, and fresh fruits and berries according to what your body can tolerate.

If you think of your comfort foods as being the enjoyment of your life, think of this: How much life will you have to enjoy when you are weak, tired, achy, ill, and dependant on prescription drugs to relieve one discomfort while they cause another…

Enjoy life, YES! But enjoy it with good, HEALTHY food, and you will preserve your health to enjoy the life that you have been granted.

By the way, you have to take 100mcg of food based Chromium 3 times a day to prevent diabetes and cholesterol problems. And you have to take it 6 times a day if you already have these problems. Type II Diabetes does have a cure, and it's not diet and excercise! That doesn't mean that you can run out and eat all the sugar you want! When I have a sugar crave i take a Chromium pill with the sweet. My blood sugar is completely normal now, and my diabetic roommate's is too!

An interview with Chris Barr has convinced me, that Chromium is the single most important supplement to prevent diabetes, cholesterol problems (Chromium regulates cholesterol), and even the precursor to diabetes, low blood sugar (hypo-glycemia).

50 years ago two doctors presented their papers indicating that Chromium is essential, needed for blood sugar metabolism, so that your cells can make Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the energy production in the body (along with oxygen to burn the sugar in the cell). The Chromium helps the sugar to get out of the transport vehicle (insulin), and into the cell. The Chromium acts as the unloading workers of the sugar/insulin transport. The sugar dock should have Chromium to do the job of facilitating the sugar transport (GTF (glucose transfer factor)- 2/3 of this is Chromium).

He says that everyone needs to supplement with this food based Chromium (100mcg per pill), because even children are running out of the Chromium stores their mothers donated to their developing fetus.

He says that Type II Diabetes is only, and specifically a deficiency of Chromium. The Chromium has to be grown (food based). Then when you eat sugar or high glycemic foods, it will end up giving you energy instead of distress.

You will just feel better and better, as having Chromium will deliver the energy to the cells that you've been missing! By the way, the whole food chromium is absorbed 50 times greater than the other chromium that is not "grown" (less than 2% is absorbed from the non food grown, and the picolinate version is deadly to the cell, it drills holes in the cell wall to deliver itself!

BTW, I have recently moved to Schaumburg but my insurance company is one of those that will not allow me to use Dr. Mercola. I am not sure I agree with everything Dr.Mercola says but a lot of it I do think would help me.

Processed foods, as a main basis for ones diet is a very big reason people in this country are over weight, or FAT. A lack of whole fresh fruits and vegetables, in ones diet can account for the diabetes increases. Akin to putting gasoline in a diesel engine, or vice versa. The results will lead to disaster.
